One Maemo device was released we bought it... some knowing it was the last... One Meego device will be released. Will you buy it? I would... If it was awesome enough. Either way Intel is supporting Meego. It might not be a 4 horse race but it will still be a powerful OS for many of the people on this site. But yeah... most of us feel betrayed in a way.

Do not just think about what OS your phone has! It´s insult to even see this as narrow as that :)

You should think about wide range off devices that all have same base-layer. Think about your home with tv, desktop-pc,tablet,car,household AirElectricWater automation etc. combined and what would future look like if you were able to sync and control from each other. Download app to you smartphone and use it on your tv and desktop. Or what kind of _new_ apps would be possible.

It just baffles me that everyone just keeps looking just their phone and comparing phones when we should be talking about how we could combine all devices that have CPU in them with on open source OS. No need to pay license fees, you are able to join development and able to tweak system so that it fits your HW, you are also free to do your own HW that you can write your own drivers. Look at what kind of different media-boxes and dvb-boxes we have in market right now and thanks to Linux that is the base OS inside most of them and you can buy device that is made by 5 guys in local HW shop or made by multi-million corporate.

What is the big deal about MeeGo? I doubt it will be anywhere near as open as Maemo 5, it won't be as mature as Android/iOS. I never intended on trading in my N900 for an N9, or any phone

I don't know about other people, but to me, It is all about hope of a great device and OS it would/could be. I also think that is also why a lot of people(including me) are angry when Nokia made the announcement about Meego.

I love Maemo. I probably couldn't go back to using iOS/Android unless it can do real multitasking and easy to use like Maemo.

As a non-linux user like me(aka noob :) ), Sometimes lack of official support and third party apps makes me find Maemo a bit lacking. For example, it would be nice to have citrix client on my n900. I know some developers have made it successful on Maemo but the method is just too complicated for me.

So N9/Meego is my hope of the next best thing to come with official support and potential of a lot of third party apps. So I was a bit sad/angry when the announcement was made about Meego.

Why Meego over Maemo? I think it is about the potential of what it could do in the future. The answer would be the same as why upgrade your CRT TV to LCD/Plasma when your big old CRT TV is still working fine?
