Thanks robbh66 for starting this thread!

I haven't taken the plunge yet, but am considering the Buy.com deal.

Anyway, I'm curious if anyone can give me feedback on how well Rdesktop works on the 770. My main use would be to remote desktop to a multizone music server running on XP Pro. I've used VNC on a laptop previously, but wasn't impressed. A RDP client on a laptop is VERY responsive - my hope is the 770 would perform roughly in line with that experience.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

I actually plan on doing the same thing, so I am quite curious as well. The server for my 770 will be running XP Tablet edition.

I think I'm also going to try this: http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ead.php?t=6802 with a 40Gb laptop external. I'll probably find some sort of a 5v battery source (old RC car batteries anyone?) to run it off of.

Would it be possible to get some gurus around here to point us to articles detailing the "easiest way to do such and such?"

So far from looking around I've noticed that there seems to be multiple ways of doing things (i.e. speeding the MMC card up, installing ITOS2007HE, etc) and it would probably relieve a lot of headaches if people did things the easy way to start off with.

It's probably easier to use a 3V to 5V convertor (try the MAX756) and 2 AA batteries or a 5V regulator (7805) and a 9V battery. Google "thoughtfix" and "power injector" IIRC.

I'd love to hear how: I don't get an option for it, otherwise. :)

Great idea for a thread! I've linked to it on a page I did for wooters.

Here's a method to get USB devices to work on the 770 for the less-technically inclined, including everything you need to purchase. No soldering or regulators necessary! Feedback would be great!

Great page! One thing: Opera on the 770 does not support heavily AJAX driven sites (Google calendar/docs, etc.) well, and sometimes not at all. I'm not sure about the desktop version of Opera though. This fact may not be so clear on your page.

BTW, @ about $340 US, the Nav kit and woot! make a pretty respectable in car navigator...

Comparable (screen size) stand alone navigators start around $400 and don't have a browser or WiFi. :)

Over on this page in the wiki I found this little gem:
Applications listed on these page are maemo 3.0 compatible and usable for Internet tablet OS Edition 2007 installed devices.
These applications MAY NOT WORK on devices with Internet Tablet 2006 Edition.
For OS 2006 compatible applications please see ApplicationCatalog2006.

Many of the applications listed here can be installed from one of the repositories listed in ApplicationRepositories. That is often a better way of installing applications, for the following reasons: you will get up-to-date versions (and the system will be able to check for updates), and you will not have to track dependencies manually.

Before adding warnings such as ...about 20 minutes after installing this software my N770 started to make crackle sounds and a few minutes latter it smell of smoke... on this page, please discuss your issue with the software's author, maintainer, porter, provider, or at least on the maemo mailing lists, http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-users/ or http://maemo.org/pipermail/maemo-developers/. Or report a bug in https://maemo.org/bugzilla/.
Was this a one time deal? Can a guru comment?

thanks, robbh66, good pointers.
Your USB link is slightly squeetered (contains ellipses), should be:
