Re: Bit the bullet, got an N900... and it can't see WiFi(?!?)

Try this: 1. Open your wifi without any Key and see whether your N900 will be able to see it. SIM card is not relevant, because I am using N900 and I dont even put my sim when I am overseas for some trip. And I am still able to access internet using wifi only :-) |

have you already tried on "iwlist scanning" on terminal? If so, are there any error messages? What does a simple "iwconfig" say?

I'm not sure what you mean by "without any Key". Do you mean look for an open access point? There are many around me (I can see them with my N800). The N900 can't see any of them, nor the WEP or WPA ones. I've tried scanning many dozens of times (even just re-flashed again, this time without a SIM card installed)... it can't see any networks. The problem isn't that I can't connect to networks, the problem is it can't even *see* any. |

ifconfig -a does show wlan0 and wmaster0. |
Re: Bit the bullet, got an N900... and it can't see WiFi(?!?)
Have you tried using no SIM? Is the SIM from th BB t-mobile? I think that AT&T only allows wifi on BB if you have full BB service, so since the sim can't access BB service, because your phone IMEI isn't a BB, maybe it also has a problem with being in the n900.

couldn't you just borrow a non-locked-down-SIM from a friend for 5 minutes and try with that?

I also tried with no SIM, I even reflashed it with no SIM and tried it. |

Any errors in dmesg output? does bluetooth work?

Re: Bit the bullet, got an N900... and it can't see WiFi(?!?)
Try reflashing; It can't hurt.
That being said, you -may- have gotten a dud. That is, someone broke it, and passed it off as "OK"... and the WiFi chip may be broken. However, this is unlikely; I -wouldn't- be surprised if it was a screwy-configuration-issue and that reflashing would fix it. |
