Re: Can I make the 770 more iphone like.

I'm a real Apple fanatic. Been using Apples since 1988. I've had eight Apple computers, three iPods, four airport base stations and accessories. I really liked the looks of the iPhone and mac OSX is the greatest operationg system( I have one Dell PC with windoz XP on it and I can't undrstand how anyone can stomach a Windoz OS.)
That all said, I passed on the iPhone and bought the N800 instead. Why? I already have a Razr with Verizon service. I don't want to go with AT&T. I really like the WiFi feature of the N800. i can use my home network to browse the internet and I can't believe all the open networks I can find just traveling around my home town area. Also the N800 connects flwlessly to my Razr via BT for email and browsing(even though at a slow 14400 bps.)
Hey, I even put the OSX theme on the N800. Now it looks like a Mac too. Maybe an iPhone later if Verizon gets it but for now the N800 is pretty cool.

Cool.

I don't want an iphone because of the phone part. I'll wait a bit for the iphone minus phone.

I just hate having to take out the stylus to do certain things... Getting better with my finger nails, but still.

Ill try out those programs.

The alarm clock is crap, any other option for that?
Also a music timer option?

I was under the impression that the iPhone was going to be absolutely exclusive to Cingular (now AT&T.)

:D I always get aggressive when people touch the screen of my 770 with their fingers instead of the stylus. i'm tired of cleaning it all the time - nothing leaves more dirt on such a surface than fingertips.

also, a "finger-driven" user interface wastes precious space... you simply need larger controls for fingers. see the size of the full screen keyboard and compare it to the normal keyboard for use with the stylus. I wouldn't want a whole device crippled by thumb-sized controls.

benny1967,
have you noticed the techniques in the iPhone that help to combat that proble of wasted space? It uses an iTap type of strategy to enlarge the hotspot for a particular key so that the keyboard can stay smaller. We could do the same with the ITs if given the sources...

I think UKMP is a perfect example of how the n770 can perform like an iPhone With a few snazzy keyboard and ui enhancements that are within the realm of the 770s cpu (most of what I've seen of the iPhone is), I cannot see why the ITs cannot give a formidable fight against the iPhone_minus the builtin phone_

If you want a more finger-driven interface, perhaps you should consider something more extreme, say "Edward Stylus-Hands"?
They do make a stylus ring, that makes your fingertip a stylus.

Here's a finger stylus comparision review.

I need 9 of those so that I can type like the big boys :)
(I only space bar with my right thumb...'cause using two thumbs is a waste of time.)

That reminds me, I'm curious: people refer to using thumb or finger, but I find it easier to use my fingernail for anything but very large buttons (e.g. for menus.), both on my 770 and my PDA. It's more precise and you seem to need less pressure than a fingertip.

Or is it just me?

I like the idea of pulling this out and finger tapping more easily. Beats: sliding cover up a hair, getting out stylus, sliding cover up again, hold small crappy stylus on bumpy bus etc;

I used the stylus and made a scratch right down the middle... I didn't press hard, touched and dragged real nice like. The stylus was just at the perfect angle I guess(or made wrong thus having a sharp tip)

Added a screen cover now and use my finger nails.

This is usually caused by a grain of dust or sand that got embedded in the tip.

Being an old Newtoneer, I've kept the old Pavlovian reflex of licking the tip of my stylus before putting it to the screen. Don't laugh! My screen is scratch-free.
