Having my N900 changed to an N8 sounds like my worst nightmare.

Thats why you keep both to have best of both worlds.. :)

The N8 does have massive advantages over the N900 (if you care about those capabilities). But there are things that N900 wins hands down (eg. Microb being the fastest phone browser there is).

Moral of the story: There is no perfect device.. Live with that thought, people.

FSecure.. hahaha.. WTF would you put Antivirus on a phone in the first place? This is ultimately why you are running out of memory since there are NO AV software that does not memory leak (bold but truthful statement). It is loaded all the time in memory and constantly using CPU for scanning when you are using it. This decreases your battery life as well. Considering there are no true or real Viruses on Symbian, like why would you need it?

Seriously though - I own a whole range of devices (N900 included) and every time I come back to the N8 as being the best all-round phone. I have never had any out of memory issues (really depends on HOW you install the apps and what widgets you end up doing).

I went on a week road trip too with both devices and I have been happy with them as they perform totally different functions -

N8: Camera, MP3 player, Navigation, Phone / SMS, games
N900: Internet, IM, ebook reader, emails etc

Between the two N8 had way more battery life (since I relied heavily on external battery unit for the N900) and the photos/videos from N8 were excellent (arguably as good as my SLR under sunny conditions). The N900 photos were dull, lacked colour vibrance and very noisy in comparison.

I love my N8 as a phone. I love my N900 as a portable Linux computer (but hate it as a phone)

I don't have an anti-virus program. That is my phone security program. Sends an sms to a predetermined number if the SIM is changed. The anti-virus program they wanted money for it and who needs it anyway on a Linux device? So, I guess your remark is without merit in regard to the memory leak issue unless you believe that something that sends an SMS is also an unstoppable memory leaker.

I have said this already a few times on different threads N8 -> great camera, crap phone. :p

Honestly, the delay in the N900's phone app isn't that bad.
What is bad (for some) would be the lack of SIM Toolkit (not a problem for me, banking is online, and I'm on a postpaid plan) and that the battery life is really bad on stock voltages.

Aside from that, I really don't see any reason personally to go back to Symbian or to jump to another platform.
Too bad Maemo's largely tied to the hardware it runs on, and Cordia's still in it's infancy. I will panic if my N900 gets lost/stolen/broken etc.

I had an n8 for 2 weeks and managed to send it back and cancel the upgrade. 12mp gives 1mb photos, needs to have a hack to give full quality, if you just drag and drop music you end up with tons of unknown songs. You have to use Ovi s***e which is dreadful. No open link in new page in browser which itself is trying brain surgery. Horrid phone. I got a nexus s. It's a bit plastic but works and now has Skype video, and is unlocked.
