1. I think they just don't care.
2. What did you expect in thread like this? Especially when it belongs in Off Topic, not in General.

Who do the masses go to for their electronic gadget advice? Who makes the corporate decision when buying truck loads of handsets for the company? Who...

My point, geeks tell their friends and families the good and bad about technology, friends and family listen, they pass that info on to their web of friends and it spreads.

If that were true, then Nokia would have sold many more N900s. The harsh reality is that most consumers have a different set of priorities than the typical geek when choosing a gadget, hence a geeks advice is of limited value, which is probably why this demographic is largely ignored by consumer electronics manufacturers.

Moreover, a geek would (and should!) also take into account how much tweaking and maintenance would the phone need to satisfy the user.

This has direct impact on how much work the geek will have to do for the user, the user's dependency on the geek, and the overall satisfaction of said end user.

Unless the geek has ulterior motives (ahem), or is somewhat ignorant (ahum), I think most geeks will think twice before recommending the n900 to an unsuspecting Joe Public.

I've read numerous accounts where experienced users here have recommended other types of smartphones to their 'follower' due to the reasons stated above.

to the OP thank you for your time here and you do not have to leave the forum completely...pass on through...there may be someone who has an issue an with your experience you may be able to help them in some way or at least direct them to the correct solution...
you can even write up a thread on N900 vs HTC from your personal point of view...such little things can help other make decisions..
thanks again

Well, if by geeks you mean developers, then I think Mr. Ecosystem cares. Or Ballmer could remind him.

ecosystem - developers = feature phone

I recently got a nexus s and although I like it as a phone, android still doesn't compare. Keep your n900 and stick with tmo. There's still nothing like it, and I doubt there ever will be. My n900 will never be for sale (again)

Most of my friends didn't even know about N900, even some geeky ones. They all knew about N97, though. That's what i call bad marketing ;) .

didn't you forget something?
Flop said that MeeGo is a dead avenue, partly also by lack of third party software.
i don't think he cares about Maemo / MeeGo anymore.
or ever did, for that matter

but your commitment may help NOKIA's return to it, indeed :)

PS: how is it going w/ the N950? ;)
