sunvox works on my N9. I had an issue starting it up after installing libsdl1.2, but resolved that with a little help from the author.

not sure of command to change permissions for sunvox on maemo5 any advice appreciated

chmod should work on any unix-like system. Unless the directory structure is somehow different in maemo5, or you have a different issue.
