Re: Why didn't Nokia just remaake the N900 for 2012?
Nokia won't do anything.....that anyone wants. They know what is better for 'us'.

Ahem, Nokia is doing everything, I mean literally everything, to make sure the N9 fails.

Didn't they annouce that MeeGo stays in prototype stage and N9 will be prototype device? im sure that i read 'bout that not that long ago. Bassicly N9 will share fate of N900 as niche, underperforming, underdeveloped device with huge potential. IMO

Re: Why didn't Nokia just remaake the N900 for 2012?
they did remake the N900 - its called the N950 and Nokia have decided that is not for generl release, and is only available to selected people as a development kit. Which frankly sucks.
Elop and now the board are determined to make windows the only game in town for them, even if that means cutting of their nose to spite their face! They seem detemined to restrict the N9 to countries where it will not compete against Windows phones. and there was an article on the register reporting that Ballmer wants to be the third "ecosystem" (hate that word), setting his target not to beat Android or Apple but just being happy to eat their dust. Crazy. |

This would be more a publicity stunt than a serious attempt to change Nokia's corporate strategy - I can see the headlines now - "10,000 geeks petition Nokia for developer-only handset" - but that's the whole point. Nokia can (and perhaps will) decline to meet that demand, but, it would be an open invitation to every other capable manufacturer to fill the gap - or it can stick to its mass-market strategy but not decline to sell its hardware to those who want to buy it. Anyone interested? We'd only need one in five TMO users to hit the 10,000 - and that's surely enough for a bored tech writer to make something out of it... |

Well just wait, we'll see the sell number over Nokia's WP and N9. |
Re: Why didn't Nokia just remaake the N900 for 2012?
The N900 actually exceeded Nokia's expectations in sales, this is true.
For a developer phone, it became the nexus, which is how we have our community. I think Nokia could've re-hashed the N900 and sold it in 2010 to make things interesting. Nothing fancy, just make it a larger 4" screen, a 5-row qwerty and thinner profile. Boost to an 1.2GHz OMAP3630, add 1GB RAM, and have a 1700mAh battery. Also would be nice to have capacitive screen and portrait mode out of the box. I would've definitely gotten one had Nokia did those slight improvements ... and so would alot of other people! |

Enough is enough!!! |
Re: Why didn't Nokia just remaake the N900 for 2012?
N900 with more RAM and reinforced USB port is all I want. They can leave everything else the same. :)
