Well, in the name of full disclosure--be careful with permitting super-user access to ANY application on ANY platform.

The one good thing about the SuperUser (root) permissions in Android, at least, is that if an application tries to do something that needs root access, you WILL get a big honking skull and crossbones window pop up asking you to be sure as to whether you want to allow that special access permission to be granted and it'll tell you which application is trying to do it. Be SURE to read that dialog whenever you see it and be SURE you're granting it out sparingly.

Again, this goes for Maemo, MeeGo, desktop Linux, Macintosh and even crappy-pants Windows. :)

Ultimately, not a reason NOT to root. :) HIGHLY recommend it.
