Well, you could just buy a dual shock 3 if you're that worried.

With all the people telling me they want one, I'm gonna have to redesign it so it won't require so much hot glue and loose wires :P
And build a nice case of course.

Right now you can grab the schematics, board layout and firmware from here:

I can't post anything with links.
I guess the moderators are on vacation...

Anyway, if you have the skills and equipment to build your own you can get the schematics, board layout and code from my blog (the link is in the engadget article).

With so many people telling me they want one I will have to put some more effort into making the controller prettier and easier to manufacture (without so much hot glue :P).

As for the firmware, most of it is from the V-USB project, I only wrote a little bit of code to handle the buttons and joystick input.
It emulates a standard USB keyboard, so all you need to run it is kernel-power and USB host utils.

Just *love* hardware DIY stuff, and this one looks nice. the only one thing I'm afraid of is wear&tear on USB port during more "demanding" moments (like playing Ur-Quan Masters on highest difficulty settings) ;)

Still, it's easily "fixable", by "clamps" holding to N900 lower case, and USB plug on flexible cable.

Keep that good work!

Bluetooth can also be implemented, what would cause zero damage to the
usb port, as well as the possibility to play with the N900 in any position,
on a table, connected on tv, as well as in hand, if you can attach it to the
keyboard, and this my friend, would be awsome.
