I know for certain the early versions will work because they didn't incorporate the phone version into its code, but they lacked some dictionary words and had some bugs.

The new version is pure awesomeness, but they need a qualifying build.prop to work otherwise it crashes. It can be done, and shouldn't be too hard, but it requires a weekend of an experienced dev.

Swype is what makes a lack of physical keyboard bearable for me. But I wish it could be turned off easier.

Swype = closed source. Answer yourself, if You can incorporate it, if it makers doesn't want to allow it. for both technical and legal reasons...
