Re: My N900's battery dies fast! :(
I'm no expert, just regurgitated what I've read.
You see at the top - C0 to C4? Your CPU is getting woken up out of C4. Twimgo looks like the culprit to this novice so uninstall it, remove battery, turn on, wait 5 mins, run again. If you don't fancy reflashing (not that bad tbh) you'll have to wait for an expert to drop by. They will insist on all the steps. ;) |

You can DIY a 3000 mAh (real) battery. If you don't feel comfortable with soldering iron, some people (including me) are able to prepare such battery for You, for price of hardware cost (base batteries), all shipping, and fixed donation for hardware mods research. See my Signature for links to all related threads (containing instructions on how to mod it yourself).

Re: My N900's battery dies fast! :(
what device on one charge can do 5 to 6 hours of twitter and irc, 1hour of urquan or similar game, .25 hours calls, 20 sms and google talk chat, and???
that is pretty heavy usage imo |

When you say "charged" do you mean on the charger brick? If not, that may be your answer. Even the wall charger has problems keeping up with the amount of power drawn at max CPU.
Also, from the time-line you listed, the hour of charging was before the heavy use (game play, cell call, gps use). Chatting and SMS are pretty minimal use, unless you have a crazy polling client. Most cell phones have a talk-time of a couple hours, N900 included. Divide that up, 2.5 hour talk time make 15mins 10% of the battery use, and that locks the CPU at 500Mhz. Now imagine a game running for 45 minutes using twice that. 10% * 3 * twice the speed? There's another 60%. Throw in some background clients and email checking... Pretty simple when you do the math. This would be true of almost any other system. The reason you don't see it on other systems is because they don't have many CPU intensive games, or if they do, they shut almost everything else in the background off when it's running. Maemo lets you do everything at once... at a price. It eats battery while doing it. |

Will everyone just STOP using this stupid speedpatch? This is like the 80th thread where people are having slow systems with poor battery life because of speedpatch and/or batterypatch. Don't ever install anything with the word "patch" in it. I've yet to see one person it's helped, and dozens complaining that their system has issues because of it. Just do a power-search on speedpatch and you'll find nothing but woe. Why anyone would think it's a good idea to install a "patch" is beyond me. Sadly, uninstalling it doesn't undo what's been done in most cases. The "patch" tweaks values in your system settings, so uninstalling the offending script just deletes the files that screwed your system up. I would advise a re-flash at this point... backup your contacts and such, re-flash with 1.3, and start afresh. Probably for the best anyway, since it gets rid of all the misc crap that could be on there from the previous owner too. :) Good luck! |
Re: My N900's battery dies fast! :(
I use KP49, dsp profile, locked to 3G (not dual), Scud battery (1420mAh). Auto network connection is disabled. Using SD card for swap. Email check every 15 minutes. Under my normal usage (no phone calls, couple hours listening to music, browing web/using network apps) I usually get over 1 day on one charge and if my usage is light, nearly 2 days is not out of the question.
If I ever get around to making the dual scud I can only imagine how long it'll last. :) Also, it seems connect to 3G internet uses less battery than connect to wifi. This probably highly depends on environmental factors. |
Re: My N900's battery dies fast! :(
there is another thread battery wear which is interesting idk if this applies to li-ion but for lead/acid (car batteries) the only real reliable way to test them is under load because of "surface charge"
