no no Peter... I have tor installed on ubuntu. and use it with firefox successfully... but the same issue with N900, there are certain ppa that link to pages starting with code.google for example... so I can't add those ppa to my repositories cause tor doesn't act system wide...

Karam added a few lines and tor is applied system wide, and hence my question, can this be applied too on Ubuntu......... tor affects the whole system........

I don't know if this can help you but i found a Ubuntu Sources List Generator,
if not... maybe someone here with the same problem has a solution...
