Try the line ;) it is a very simple command even if it is long.
What is does is simply just to send a dbus message to show a banner.

I didnt try your script but i took a look at it, and i think you should indent the if/case and such stuff to make it more readable.
Also, most of the stuff could easily be made more GUIsh/modern by using zenity (I believe it is easydebian that installs that tool?)
