Hey thanks.. but are the packages in your repository signed with .aegis? Is inception/open-mode required for certain packages? Since you are the one that's running and maintaining the repo, there's nobody else that can answer this question better. I'm just curious on how this aegis framework works. I know now open-kernel/inception solves this problem but I'm just curious...

Inception is needed for some packages, though some people still prefer open-mode, I do not personally, but have my own reasons.

you can install .debs.

Some of them need to be incepted. Look at the forums to figure out which ones do and which one's don't.

Gahh! I'm getting confused again.. I really need a Open mode vs Inception thread. Why do you prefer inception over open-mode then? Someone was arguing about Inception being bad because it's using an exploit which is not well-received by a number of people. But there must be some differences between them in terms of performance/compatibility. What are the ups and downs?:confused::confused:

I don't use open mode because a certain person's open mode kernel is a hack and is a cluster****.

Inception is cleaner and more user friendly to me.

I don't care what people like or don't like. I like what works. Having used both, I still prefer inception.

Also some people that use open mode still use inception (this line explains all i need to know)

I am partially biased, test and see for yourself which you like better.

no most of the apps in this repo are not requiring risky API ... but If it matters I use openkernel but this is not mandatory ...

btw let me suggest to read the url in my signature and use ovi or appformeego for reliable packages ... but my repo is open for any contributions ...

welcome to n950club again !

just curious why did you pick a 950 instead n9 ?

What the **** are you talking about? Inception is a hack. Open mode is cleaner, more customizable, the only one that will allow you to run custom kernels, disable aegis permently (and not from early boot only). Addtitionally, if you use Android, you are basically forced into using open mode. Its only con right now is that the lock code feature stops working..

I don't understand why would anyone want to run Aegis cracks anymore, to be honest. They are a waste of time.

I have decided to flash open-mode. Anyway, thanks for your warm welcome and the suggestion, I will use your repo along with the others.

As mentioned earlier, I plan to make apps for n9/50. Currently I'm at the learning stage(I'm reading the C book from K&R and a couple of Python books). But that's not the reason I got the N950.
I did get the n950 just because of the hw keyboard. I am more comfortable with hw keyboards. You always have the option to use a btkb but I don't like those. But it seems like the n950 is left behind by Nokia, regarding the PR 1.2 final and 1.3. Well, every pro has its con.

I will post my plans for my n950 in your thread.

Ohh.. and maybe my last question. When exactly do you have to use that AEGIS_FIXED_ORIGIN=com.nokia.maemo parameter? How do you see when it's needed? When dpkg is causing an error or something? And is it for dpkg to trick it to think aegis is enabled?

When you do that dpkg will give a package the full set of privileges any package coming from Nokia would have. Packages that request privileges that are not allowed usually give error messages (the installation itself does NOT fail though).
