But i dont ;) i have used speedpatch for half a year now and it works fine.
Some stuff is slower like the videopart from youtube videos (the sound is alright) but other are faster like the userinterface, and for me that is most important.

speedpatch is a placebo pill.

anyway, TC, thing is ...the N900 is 3 years old. If you are among the lucky ones who can overclock up to 1150mhz with no problem.. do so!

But keep in mind that the main reason N900 feels slow nowadays is the small amount of ram (though the archtecture around it is spectacular for its time)

also websites and programs become heavier as time goes by. heavier for older devices.

No need to overclock to 1150mhz, limiting factor is still I/O. OC to 1150 is just crazy. I am happily using 600mhz and my device isn't slow. I only OC to record 720p-video and play them. even then I don't OC to insane values like 1.15 ghz. I never pass the 850 as max ;)
I suggest to buy an microSD of class 6 (or higher)) and make an swappartition on SD and use ereswap + swappolube. Also cleanup your conversations, a big database tends to slowdown the whole device.

edit: Marmistz was a little faster, alarmed can help a lot to defrag swap. I personally use ereswap instead of swapset but I guess the endresult is the same.

there is a N900 batch that supports 1150mhz with no problem.
unfortunately I am not among the lucky ones.

Everything above 950mhz ends with a reboot in my device : )

If I had a "rare" N900 like the ones I talked about, I would surely have it on 1150mhz

well, something funny happened a couple of weeks ago - usually i use dsp profile (250 - 805), but for some reason I loaded default (250-600) and forgot. A couple of days I was running with max freq of 600 without even noticing it :). Using cssu-thumb of course. swap on uSD.

Use my modified qcpufreq helper script http://talk.maemo.org/showpost.php?p...&postcount=180 to disable smartreflex whenever you overclock too high. Then you won't experience the reboots!

Actually it's not. Reason is that it has so much to do or internet connection is slow.

Install Faster Application Manager to speed up app install and remove apps. Remove apps that you dont need.

And then install terminal program htop to easily see what is going on inside N900:
- CPU shows how much processor is in use normally its under 25%, so you don't have to overclock. Some Easy Debian programs start very slowly, but after they started they don't need so much CPU power.
- Mem shows how much memory is in use. Normally it uses under 200 MB from 229MB, but that doesn't tell all, next thing tell if there is problem with memory use.
- Swp shows how much doesn´t fit to memory and is putted to slower swap memory. Under 100MB from 767MB is normal. If this go over 300MB then I have noticed that N900 get slower. If you have to have many heavy web pages open at once and you feel slow responses try to Opera Mobile.
-Tasks shows how many processes there is running. Normaly it is under 150. If it show over 175 then there can be some ghost processes and then you should restart your phone.
- Load avarage is process load avarage
- Uptime is how long time your N900 have been on after restart. If this is many weeks then you can try restart to speed up things.
