Re: bluetooth keyboard for N800
Thanks Karel...I assume all the PC keyboards will be HID (and after reading the forums the Apple ones too).
I'm not necessarily loooking for a foldable keyb (although I'd prefer one) so a full size will do (not to mention it'll work for my lappy too). |
Re: bluetooth keyboard for N800
As has been said before, this topic has been covered thoroughly. But for the benefit of all - yes, it works with BT keyboards.
And YES it works very well with the new apple BT keyboard as well. That's the route I went and I'm very satisfied with it. Not only does it work great with my N800, but with my mac as well (duh). :) |
Re: bluetooth keyboard for N800
I'm having a problem with getting my Stowaway Universal BT Keyboard to work for the first time. First, I put the batteries in the Stowaway. Then, I selected the generic keyboard. However, when I go to Bluetooth to add a device, the N800 searches and finds "no device found" to pair to. Not sure why it can't find the keyboard. Any one experience this?

Best thing is if you are in a retail store and see a wireless keyboard (with or without mouse) look all over the box for a bluetooth logo. If you can't find one, it isn't bluetooth. If you are buying online, make sure you know what is and is not a BTooth model before you buy. There are many inexpensive (and foldable) keyboards out there for PocketPCs and PDAs, most are not Bluetooth. Some are infra-red, some are hardwired to the device they are meant to be used with (plugged into a cradle). If it doesn't clearly say Bluetooth, do your homework. |
This might be useful: http://alan.blog-city.com/n800_keyboard.htm
Also, my stowaway kb (rebranded as Dell, a real bargain from expansys) has a blinking led when on, so go find if yours is working indeed or batteries are down :-) |
Re: bluetooth keyboard for N800
@xxM5xx: You are right, it's called RF (I just named it proprietary...) BTW neither the box of the new Apple BT KB nor the KB itself shows a Bluetooth logo. But even if a KB showed the logo you could not infer that it conforms to HID standard. Best thing is to try pairing in the shop. Next best thing is to check the specs. A while ago I bought the Stowaway ultra slim foldable BT KB (HID: yes) which has been reported to work very well with n800. Now mine was the version with german layout and it turned out that for this layout version there is a bug in the HID implementation in this KB such that some modifier keys do not work as specfied. The manufacturer accepted my error proof and then the dealer took it back. Conclusion: test in the shop and check proper function of ALL keys, in particular with modifier keys. Or buy online and return the unit if you are not satisfied (at least in Germany this is assured by local law).

Re: bluetooth keyboard for N800
Thx debernardis but this is the link I was using to get mine to work. The N800 is searching but not finding the keyboard. There doesn't seem to be a switch on the keyboard or some kind of indicator light to tell if it is even functioning. I'm clueless. Did I waste my money on this device?
