I still use it. As email reader, RSS reader, portative server, portative movieplayer, portative development (gcc; g++; openjdk; tcl/tk) , and of course, as phone. Still fully functional, only micro-scratch on screen and a notch on the spacebar of the plastic azerty keyboard layout. I bought it in june 2010.

Re: Wow people are still using the N900?

As a counter-post, my days here are numbered, going to order a Z3 compact....

Yes, the n900 keyboard is great, but...
- speed: checking something on a website quickly is not possible. The world moved on and has instant access
- screensize: coming from an n810, I was already pissed that the n900 was smaller, so time for a more sane screen size on a smartphone.
- battery life: having my 3rd battery in there now, it normally lasts the whole day, unless it starts acting up and starts draining it in half a day. More than a day is possible by not using it (what's the point)
- camera: never been impressed with it, missed some important events due to the camera app taking 10+ seconds to start, video sometimes consists of the first 5 seconds frozen image...
- wifi: never been able to share connection over wifi, always ended up locking the whole phone up

This is with latest CSSU thumb testing

Not decided what I will do with my n900 (I still have the n810 in mint condition too)

Re: Wow people are still using the N900?

I know hey?!?!
going from n810 screen down to n900 wasn't fun at all.
I use my n900 as my daily...
But I use my n810 still.... to ACTUALLY do stuff on and enjoy it.

BTW ...Sad to hear you are migrating away ...
hopefully you'll see the error of your ways leaving maemo. :D

Wow, I didn't realize the FM receiver was tucked in there. Cool... I'm a DJ at a small station and didn't realize I had a quick & easy way to check the on-air sound!

Oh, yeah. The sonar! You're right, endsormeans. Tne first time I saw that video I had to pick up my jaw from the floor. :)

Although technically this is not a hardware feature, I haven't seen other phone do this yet.

HAHAHA. Yeah, you sure do. Notice you will need to have PR1.3 or CSSU installed, and also you will need to connect a pair of headphones, as the N900 will use the headphone wire as antenna. Or you can connect a 1/8 cable to an amp an a set of speakers, which I also do.

Re: Wow people are still using the N900?

Also, in case somebody is left who has not yet installed EasyDebian in your N900, run to your nearest WiFi station and install it now!

It basically allows you to run Debian alomgside Maemo. I can run programs like Streamtuner/Streamripper (listen to and rip thousands of Internet radio stations), the Gimp, Open Office, etc.

Heck, I can run emacs with LaTeX (via auctex) and compile any LaTeX document I want into a PDF.

No other phone can do all this stuff so well. Period.

That N900s are selling now on eBay under $100 is insanity.

I know it's great and all expounding the virtue of nxx0 devices and maem-o ...and curious new-comers as usual will see this and go "gotta get me one!" ...and normally I completely agree...
but we gotta be careful we don't inadvertently shoot ourselves in the foot here...(I'm actually speakin' entirely about myself here :D)

See....actually ...I've been scopin' out a few n900's to add to my retinue and I most certainly (at the mo') don't want everybody to see how great AND cheap they are...else the prices may go up 'fore I seal the deal :D

Shhhhhhh! Malfunctioning!

Shout "Huzzahs!" after I got another one or two for next to nothing.
:D

HAHAHA. Fair enough, endsormeans. I'll keep the virtues of the N900 on a lower profile for a while so that you can get a few at a nice price. ;)
