Thank you!

proftpd compiled nicely. I can package and release it tomorrow.

Re: enable ftp server

Here's proftpd for you. I first tested it on my device by hand so I hope I didn't leave out anything from the package. Server runs on startup as user. You can start/stop the server as root with /etc/init.d/proftpd start/stop. You need to setup a password for the user to be able to login. Config is /etc/proftpd.conf if you want to fine tune it. You can access the root of your device by default, but you start from the home directory. Please report if it doesn't work. If you need the proftpd utils, I can make a package of them too.

proftpd_1.3.1_armel.deb

Re: enable ftp server

I installed it with no issues, but I am still getting familiar with proftpd. At the moment, I'm at work ... without access to my home computer, I'm trying to get my Nintendo DS to connect with the N800 via an ad-hoc network with no luck. (I guess I need to manually provide an IP address.) I will give this another go on a normal wifi network when I get home. In the meantime, THANKS!!!

Not sure what proftpd utils does, but if useful, I would be interested in getting that package.

Also, (I don't want to sound like I'm asking for too much), but do you think getting gproftpd to work on the N800 would be a possibility? http://mange.dynalias.org/linux.html

Yes, it's possible. It compiled and ran, but could use some hildonization. But unless you want to use your tablet as a full fledged ftp-server, I see no point working on that. Minor changes are pretty easy to make, proftpd's config is quite simple and well documented.

Re: enable ftp server

Ok, just got it to work! Still getting used to it, but it looks like it does what I need it to do. The only challenging part was learning how to set up a password for user. (Hints are here: http://maemo.org/community/wiki/chan...rootoutetuser/)

On OpenSuse 10.3 (using Filezilla), I was able to log into my N800 and upload some files. The only oddity I noticed thus far is that my directory listing shows MyDocs and apps... and if I try to doubleclick into them, I'm immediately kicked off the FTP connection. Then, I have to wait a little bit before I can log in again.

NOW, all I need to do is figure out how to connect my Nintendo DS directly to my N800 via an ad-hoc network. If anybody has any ideas, please let me know!

In any case, THANK YOU! I very much appreciate you putting together this package. So, what is proftpd utils used for? (If I google for it, I ironically get this thread as the first result.) :)

I guess they are needed for more advanced server management. I'll check the error you are getting and see if I can fix that.

The site hosting the FTP server listed in post #13 is gone. Is there an alternate place to get it?

It seems they shut it down without any notice. I sent them an email, let's see what they reply.

EDIT: k, it's back
