Nikolai Nikiforov, Communications Minister in Russia, shares to Kommersant, Russia: "There are a number of private components associated with user interfaces [in SailfishOS], but they will be open around June-July. Since the release of the second version of the operating system is completely open environment for collaborative development and participation of all the professionals of the international community ..." |
Re: A Sailfish YotaPhone exists
To make it easy for you: silica is NOT third party component
Like I said, what have the romans ever did to us? Don't let the hate blind you and read the bloody article to the end |

Saarnio states nowhere that anything will be done by June-July, let alone "everything". He says there is a roadmap, which has yet to be disclosed. Why would there even be a roadmap if it was all going to be done in the next 8 weeks? Also, as you point out, they can't open source bits they don't own. Again contradicting what the Russian minister says. |
Re: A Sailfish YotaPhone exists
Lol, just lol, haters gonna hate, here you have jolla officially state they will open whole of _their_ source, bbbbut mah narrative, russian minister who cares??? This article has jolla as source not some russian official, go hate harder

Re: A Sailfish YotaPhone exists
Does anyone not realize that SailfishOS on the Jolla/Jolla 2/Jolla Tablet or its open-sourced project counterpart would be (very) different to Russia's SailfishOS solution. Be it as a project on github or on the YotaPhone.
It might be a case of similar to Android on Nexus devices, the AOSP code, and a device like the Amazon Fire Phone. Related, but not the same, and not the same level of openness. |
Re: A Sailfish YotaPhone exists
We just don't know a lot of stuff yet, we have to wait & see what the full plans & approach is;
I highly doubt the localised version for the CIS market will be as open (or more) as the trunk variant of Sailfish. But, the Russians may surprise us in that respect... |
