Sometimes, they take that to an extreme.

On my visit to the Forbidden City a few years ago, our tour guide told us that the Chinese culture - at least at the time of building it - explicitly forbade progress. The Emperor's successor could not outshine his father by building a bigger palace. So he had to build a smaller one. With only 9999.5 rooms instead of 10000.

Frankly I think the problem with Western culture is it's excesses.
Media fueling it...rampant consumeristic behaviour...the belief that all that counts is what people can get right now...people chiming in via social media on topics they feel they are experts on...and resultant angelification (made that up....sounds good though) or demonization destroying peoples lives, undermining important work ..etc.
That is what i see as the probs with western culture...
Other cultures have their issues too.
No culture is perfect.
Except Maemo culture of course :D

You'd need to ask someone from eastern culture about that. I couldn't tell (or if I tried would end up repeating some westerner views which would most likely be wrong).

Well, maemo culture has not yet been around for 40-60 years and hasn't accomplished 95% of its goals, so it is not yet turning into caricature of itself (especially once we get maemo studies into mainstream and have overpopulation of maemo studies majors that would jump at every non-maemo aspect of our lives to tear it apart)

One thing that's wrong with western culture is Rupert Murdoch and his herd of sheep. He controls a large portion of the media, frequently publishes crap, even in the so called more respected publications, many westerners believe it, many of those even pay money to read it, and then they try to censor those who draw attention to it. I could go on and talk about News Corp's corruption, etc. but I'll end this rant here.

Western culture dont care about the earth. 60% lives in cities and have no clues what happens with the fields, local farms, forrests, animals and groth...we simply import stuff like nothing happens...will hit us in the head eventually and we will understand when it actually affects our lives for real.

And Trump officially enters the Presidential Race for the White House today. Gawd...would someone just press the big red button and do us all a great mercy than to have to listen or watch him ...let alone him to be the worst of blow-hard bullies in charge of everything to the south of me...If he makes President...and I wouldn't put it past the voting public there (hell they voted in Reagan...who played second fiddle to Bonzo the monkey in I dunno how many films)...he'll be impossible, insufferable, and many other "-bles" as well. Want to watch a nation...let alone a planet go down the toilet quick...vote him in.
