Presumably TWRP Recovery had been manually installed?

I tried again and it works now. I had to use Magisk 16.7 explicitly (not the newest version).
But still no differences in functionality.

Edit: Screencast still won't start.

Umm, do they?

Xperia X released 2016, SailfishOS 2017
Xperia XA2 (+, Ultra) 2018/19, SailfishOS 2018

I think new hardware support will only follow if Sony continue making suitable handsets.

Does anyone know if the alien dalvik implementation for the Xperia X would work on XA2 if someone just transferred the rpm's and installed them?

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

Just a dummy question for those who use the free trial of Sailfishos X for Xperia XA2: Do they need to reflash a complete Sailfishos image once Jolla will have Android support etc ready or can they just update their devices from the free trial version? Did Jolla mention anything regarding this somewhere?

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

Still not flashed my XA2, I'll wait for the full version, guess I can't misout some android apps yet.

Jolla/James mentioned that you can "upgrade" to the full version without reflashing. Which already lead to the discussion here if this could be a sign of Jolla deploying some paid feature to the store.
I doubt that. Propably everything will stay the same and Jolla store paid application downloads will be available after paying at shop.jolla.com. (Enabled by imei?)

Just curiosity, how is the quality of the camera of the Xperia XA2? Is it better than Xperia X? What about low light condition?
I want to try, but waiting for the android support, so if someone can share a spoiler about camera would be great [emoji14]

.....and XZ1 for 239 :(
Considering how long it takes for Jolla to come out with working version, they really should have aim for the flagship models. When support for X was finally ready I also had a chance to get XZ for way less. Xperia midrangers are overpriced for what they are so I hope that those XZ2 and XZ3 rummors are true.

well, maybe they are not rumors at all. Or anything. But considering that XZ2 can be found for 400€ here (and maybe elsewhere) or XZ1 for ~200+€ XA2 variants are just way overpriced even now. So move to those flagship models wouldn't be a bad idea.

as far i know community editions is still not available because jolla has free download for it, so you has to use vpn to download the image, opera browser has free vpn or tor maybe.

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

Having Problems with Sailfish install. Seems Unlock Bootloader the programm freeze but on Boot it shows the screen that the bootloader is unlocked.
Now flashing Sailfish fastboot is searching device but not found it.
Same time XA2 Dual is rebooting.
First was trying on MacOS but homebrew doesnt find fastboot for install (no repository).
In Linux (LMDE2 on MacBook Air) all is right installed but seems that fastboot doesnt have the option set_active.
start flashing Sailfish the Sony is rebooting in normal mode (showing charging porcentage) and flash.sh is still searching for an device

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

not from XA2 experience, but I was recently unlocking bootloader on mi pad 4 and flashing and what not..... On arch at the time. My device was always recognized and I could reboot it with adb reboot bootloader but then in fastboot mode with fastboot flash recovery xxx.img.......nothing. Forever "waiting for the device". And just because the second command needs sudo while 84639 instructions are all withot one.

Running Sailfish now on XA2, lot's of bugs are fixed (that were persistent on Nexus 5).

In order to set peak period times, this manual fix is needed.

I flashed my XA2, but haven't used it that much, it is waiting for Android support. Did some camera experiments, though. The rear camera seems pretty good. Seems like there is there is no focus problem, like Xperia X has.

However, the front camera is bad, I mean really bad. Pictures are really, really dark. Practically, the front camera is unusable. Is it just me, or do others have this same issue?

shmerl 2018-11-27 04:08

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

Xperia XA2 is listed with 32GB internal storage.

Sailfish settings UI under storage shows for me some confusing numbers.

User data: 273.9 MB used, 17.0 GB free
System data: 1.1 GB used, 1.3 GB free

What happened to the rest of "32 GB"?

Does flashing Sailfish erase data Android partitions (and installed Android applications, besides the kernel / hardware drivers)? It looks to me like a lot of space is wasted somewhere.

UPDATE:

Ah, I think it's used for a lot of other mounts.

df -h also shows me such total sizes:

2.4G /
18G /home

6 different tmpfs (1.3G) and stuff like /opt, /fimage, /odm, and etc. So I guess the usage is legit.

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

I was trying to use OSM Scout with GPS recently, and location icon in the top bar just keeps blinking and nothing can use the location ("where am I?" is grayed out). How can this be fixed and is it a known issue?

UPDATE:

It worked in the end. I just let it run and I guess it was collecting some info or rebuilding location database, but now it's functional.

@mosen, how often do you damn reboot?

I do only on a system update and sometimes after navigating with Pure Maps, if I am in a hurry and cannot faff with Fingerterm.

Sometimes not for weeks but somedays it kind of hates me and locks into some backlit blankscreen state only recoverable by vol up + Power reboot multiple times in a row. I do not know how to nail the problem. It is most propably because i misconfigured "something" (mce?) and i do not blame Jolla until i tried a factory reset.
Also my unnecessarily bloated dalvik install could be the root of the problem and i would only set up a minimum on a fresh device now that i know my usecase better.
Got no time for that unfortunately so i am waiting what the XA2 port will bring and move there. Or if XA2 disappoints reflash/reset xperia x.
I would already have tried reflash if the problem was bugging me more serious though :p

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

I was travelling a lot recently and instead of using just the flight mode, I was turning the phone off to save battery. I have rebooted very often in just two weeks, I can confirm I was exactly like Mosen's picture at every reboot during during evenings!

Speaking of Sailfish X, has anyone managed to run Stellarium (the native Sailfish version)? It crashes for me, and I remember someone else mentioning it here in one thread before I purchased an Xperia phone.

Similarly, anyone managed to install the N26 application? The new versions are not compatible with Android 4.4.4 anymore, but I kept an older version that still installs properly on the Jolla and Jolla C, while on Sailfish X the installation fails all the time without much verbose. I'm not sure what can be the cause since those phones are supposed to have the same Alien Dalvik, and I have the Play Store and Google Services (ew) installed on all.

juiceme 2018-12-05 12:58

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

As for my usecases; on previous versions of SFOS it happened to me about once a week that I lost GPS lock completely, and just about nothing except reboot fixed that. No help recycling connectivity, restarting lipstick or killing positioning related daemons could fix it.

Since updating to 3.0.0.8 the bug has not manifested again, GPS snaps to lock almost immediately and there are no known hickups requiring reboot.
Currently uptime is 19 days and counting. It looks like I'm going to go to the next version update before I need to boot my device :D:D:D

Re: Sailfish X for XA2 variants

I end up rebooting SailfishX on the Xperiax once a week or so when the browser gets messed up enough that it won't work at all, or worse: renders the phone unresponsive with a steady green or red LED. Like mosen it sometimes requires the red-button (power and volume-up) reset.

As far as Stellarium, version 0.3-1 from openrepos works fine on X for me (the documented landscape issue notwithstanding).

ed. Forgot to mention the rare occasional spontaneous reboots that seem to only occur in the middle of the night when that damn Sony white screen is bright enough to wake me up.

I have a messed up browser on J1 and have to do "killall sailfish-browser" all the blooming time. Like pretty much after every use that lasts more than a few minutes. But never to the point of steady LEDs. It must be a SailX thing.
