Atleast the first image doesn’t fit the profile of the others.

That seems to be old mockUp. Or for another project?

Or the slider mechanics using a scam form factor to hide to design from the first image which will end up as the final design.

Base on what was posted here by th OP, I would say it will be the slide tilt mechanics.

As long as I can use it both ways I'm fine. But I would think the 1 axis slider is more durable. But this look pretty robust.

At the price current mass produced flat, all display phones need to sell this should be at least GBP 1500. Especially given the niche?
Couldn't have it with Nokia mass manufacturing power still online and sure today can't have.

it should not cost a lot, 1500 gbp holy damn no way!
Should be like less then $400, and NOT have ugly bezels, with lots of ram and modern high-end processor.

This can only happen if the market calls for more handset with keyboards and fairly open hardware. If that happens and these type of devices become popular then ... yes the price could come down or someone will make a cheaper vers. It's kinda of silly to expect first gen product in small batch to be cheap. I understand that there are markets out there that need lower prices, but they have plenty of cheap choices for phones ... just not this one. No one is forcing anyone to buy anything.

So lets worry first about the product simply coming out with little to no manufacturing issues.

If you didn't get my point - fine but silly? Do you think I don't understand why the price is that big? Logical arguments about the price tag don't change anything if you take a broader perspective. Now days the prices are insane and people still tend to pay them for basically toys.

I will say that I can agree that phones in general are too expensive these days. I don't feel the need to buy these over 1k phones. Also In the past I've bought the old newton 1000s because they fit my need. But devices have always been expensive, especially when you buy them unsubsidized. I bought my phone new full price. Saved up for it ... pretty simple.

Your argument, has some merits ... but falls apart if you apply it to say anything else. Example those 4k atmos smart tv are too expensive ... so you can buy the cheap Chinese set from an unknown brand

Maybe my language barrier is to big to sometimes understand everything as clearly as intended by a native speaker. Working on it.

I also stand in a position that my arguments stand ;) What for do you need 4k? To consume shitty entertainment? Soon there will be 8k to consume it even better. The price tag will be even bigger and people will be praising that this is it, and they have to have it, and obviously pay for it. It's 8k men!!! It has to cost!

Always the new and shiny. And always the need to have it. But people don't think why on earth do they need it? To evolve into a better person? To streamline work so they can do it faster and than evolve into a better person? Nope. To watch another **** on Netflix or play games for hours - you name it. Education, tooling for work so you can work less and... ahhh. What am I writing about. So unpopular. You are right. time to save money and buy a toy. This will push me further...

The commercial success of this phone all comes down to one thing: it has to reach people who are not specifically waiting for a HWKB phone since years like us. In other words, the company producing this phone cannot afford to question the relevance of all marketing arguments based on "new and shiny". It may be silly, but it would be risky to fight two battles at the same time (keyboard and marketing blabbering). This phone will probably sell better if it is high end and expensive, than average and inexpensive.

Later on, if this works, maybe we can hope for a smaller form factor, lower specs, and a lower price tag. Unfortunately, I doubt this could be the first step. The money invested in designing a HWKB phone in 2018 is certainly huge, and the risk even bigger, so securing many orders is probably the best bet for now.

No hard feelings, my open source/ open hardware loving brethren.

I think we agree on many things. I feel people in general are caught up in this over consumerism upgrade buying pattern. And many feel they NEED the latest and greatest ... sign.

I used to be an overly progress type, but have learned that there is a cost to everything, beyond the prices on the label. The cost can be the environment, you mind, our relationships... etc.

But it is still real freedom ... no? To be able to choose to spend more than you make, to buy something new all the time, to spend your time on the computer instead of with friends or family. True freedom is being able to make mistakes.

So yeah, I hear yah. Todays world can be great or the most challenging life test. But still choose to believe that we all have more opportunities now WITH technology as it is to make something out of it. But we also can choose to wallow in the cramp of the internet, news, people. which can bring us all down.

Without smart caring people it would be a lot worst world, which is what I hope is my tiny part in the big game of life :D

I won't even consider buying this until there is a fully working alternative OS like for example Sailfish ready to flash. Until then, any device with Android would just be a useless brick to me. I don't need more paper weights.

After Youyota I wouldn't be surprised if Jolla doesn't really want to talk to Chen about any future products, and it sound like Chen didn't have the best of time with them either to be fair.

But i'm sure chen will try and make sure the required pieces are available for community hybris ports of different systems

I am not sure what happened but I didn't and never banned anyone. Even not sure how to do that...

BTW I have actually answered similar questions multiple times. ;) Will ship with Android by default, but will support other OSes as much as I can. Will start with Lineage OS and I will provide free device to the developer. Also SFOS and Maemo L or even Ubuntu Touch.
