Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Mask everything with kapton tape remove the RF cover and hot air reball the chip to the board.
I dont recall the board layout, the instructions might even be in the big maintenance manual. The PDF was on the forum years ago. |

Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Hi there,
As you were able to see I was absent for like 1 month. I am really sorry for that, just my work gave me a hard time. Repaired only 12 boards and that was done in the September :( During searching for something at home, I found whole N900 shell with screen and keyboard, I will donor them when I will finish rest of the boards. |
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
I think there is time for some update.
Still because all the covid situation my job tries to kill me from the exhaustion and it almost end with success :D But this time I have only few boards to finish, I hope I will be able to send that darn boards back before fully functional, working Leste will be available for N900. My friend told me he will be able to obtain some memory chips compatible for that Ti CPUs which are mounted as sandwich. Soldering those at home even with stencil is a nightmare but still - I will want to make an experiment on at least one board. |
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
So you will make an experiment. Nice. But you know what it means if it is a success, right? You'll have to do it to all of them!!!
If you have an extra N9 you could try that cpu on N900 too. It would need a custom flashing though, but it should be possible. You have boards to experiment. |

Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
^ News item? Link?
|
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Well supposedly t-mobile was doing the same according to rumors, but t-mobile finally added some info saying they were not. Then added that some phone may not work because of old software and the usability to upgrade. Though they didn't specify what SW needed updating.
But in the end of the day it's Feb and my n900 still works!!! Thank the lords, since the my PinePhone is not yet ready for my daily use. So maybe it will be similar in your case, but you still have 2 years of n900 fun. x |

Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
^ Thanks, but this doesn't mention Finland or even other Nordic countries at all?
I'm not saying you're wrong, but I am making it a habit to believe only news, not rumour. Somehow I can't imagine Finland to break support for all those bottle openers still in use... (joking aside, there's plenty of telephony-only devices that rely on 2G/3G, also new ones) |

It was in finnish online newspaper either Iltalehti or Iltasanomat. I can try to find it tomorrow.

Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
re: USB sockets on N900
A couple days ago I thought mine died, since I plugged in the phone and it boot-looped continuously. But I changed charger ports, and all was well. Turns out it didn't work with the 2A power-only port on my Vantec (or Lantec, stylized font is confusing) combo USB 3.0 hub/charger device. The 1A power port and the "real" USB 3.0 ports worked just fine. Still, I should get my rear in gear and reinforce that port before I regret not doing it. |

Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Sorry about that. It was related on a shallow way that now fixing these boards may not have as far reaching benefit as I thought and because I did not find that thread about 3G network going down which I had read earlier, and did not want to make another thread just about this info but did not wan't to be without posting it, it ended up here. I hoped that someone would have straight away found the other thread with the right topic and said "this belongs to this thread" and all would have been almost like no harm done.

Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
I hope the experiments with N900 boards didn't include any explosives. Have been silent for a while. Maybe just busy getting them extra ram and faster chip.
|
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
All the boards will be ready after Easter. Honestly, so sorry for that but Chinese contact which had the chips never respond for my message. But still have some hopes.
|
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Let's hope. Never give up.
|
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Still hoping and waiting for the boards. Getting a bit worried though. A little uneasy feeling. But I sent the boards by my own will and choice. Now just have to bare waiting. Leste is not yet ready so there isn't a real need yet but I think this is normal human behaviour to be impatient and concerned.

Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Huh. That's weird. Trzyzet has been logging in, but their last post is from may and they say they'd been hit by a car. Have you tried PM, or have you tried to contact them directly? You must have Trzyzet's contacts since you sent them stuff?
|
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
About a month ago he said he is getting package sent but after that no answers to emails so a bit worried. Hope nothing bad has happened.
|
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Still no answer to mails or messages from Trzyzet. If someone here knows him personally it would be great if someone could try to get an update.
|
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
I'm starting to be doubtfull of what is going on. Still no answer. Have sent email, email from another address, pm here and pm on fxtec forum where Trzyet is active. Maybe I need to pay a physical visit. I hope I do not need to go there. It would be my first visit to England.
|
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Wow!
If he doesn't answer, what do you suspect? |
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
I suspect nothing. There was many months silence and then got messages again. But now the last mail was where he asked address for sending all the boards and then silence again. This time it feels a bit more disturbing. Maybe he will answer someday.

Another example, I personally can be very buggy regarding starting a new task for a client. Don't know why, it happens sometimes psygnition problems. :--)

Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Still haven't been able to get in contact with Trzyzet. Not here or anywhere. Very worried something has happened to him. If I will not get in touch with him before summer by other means I am forced to start trying with, I will then announce that I have 50 empty N900 cases as spare parts for those interested. Hope it won't go there. They are 50 possible new N900 users (or 25 cause I think a developer should have two to play with) after I contribute them.
|
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
And all blame on me sending so many boards to someone to fix. I was just so happy someone wanted to help. But it has definately been a burden, maybe too big burden. Bummer.

Still no answer to any mails. I sent him a mail and said that if he won't contact in any way before june I will announce I have a lot of spare N900 cases for users. Bummer. Hope he is ok.

What a bummer. .
I was hopping that I would be able to get a Maemish-inspected, boosted and ready to go n900 since my friend’s n900 arrived and I was always expecting to find good news here. I guess it wasn’t meant to be. At least we know that you tried your best to do something good for the community without any profit and a lot of effort! |
Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Actually trzyzet is the one who has done a lot of work, not me. I am starting to believe something bad has happened to him. Maybe burn out or covid hit hard. I think he was hit by a car and got well from that but maybe something came after that. Gonna try to check in the summer if I can reach him.

Re: Maybe it's time to do something with broken USB sockets?
Who knows.
To be honest though, after 2 years or something I’m pretty sure he could have said something between the lines of “I have some issues, it will take me some time to get back to you” or something like that. I’m just saying that because he had some presence in Reddit and other places while he was not replying to anyones messages. But anyway, I hope he doing well and also that he gets back to you soon. |

Trzyzet just means three hundred in Polish. But generally I agree, unlesss he died or had a mental breakdown or some such, he should've replied by now. |

I can’t be sure since I’m not a detective. I just tried to search so that I can msg him too at some point. When you mention n900, FXtec, PSP at this day and age and some soldering stuff, I kinda assumed it is the same person. Also no reply kinda matches too :) |
