Re: WeBot

Another observation:

Said song plays fine from my room PC to my notebook sitting in the living room. These two devices are using different access points in my apartment. However, playing the same song on my N800 takes forever.

Why is this the case?

Re: WeBot

I am not sure how you guys got it to webot.com site... i reflashed OS2008 and without restoring anything (thinking conflicting with something else) and still got the same error on the Flash player... this is killing me!

Re: WeBot

You probably have flash disabled.

watadoo 2008-01-09 13:47

Re: WeBot

exactly. check to see if you have plugins disabled. that is the cause of this error.

vnguyen972 2008-01-09 16:29

Re: WeBot

No, I don't have the plugin disabled. I carefully checked before i hit the site... because if the plugin was disabled.. I couldn't even see the login panel because it was a flash... so I saw the login panel and it let me login just fine... but that's it... it refreshes with the Flashplayer error... saying that I have an imcompatible version. Even with my newly refreshes of OS2008 with nothing else installed. So strange...

The Nokia landing page and log in form are not flash. after logging in the app loads and THAT is a flex application.

Re: WeBot

ah.. really.. so how come it won't even come up if i have flash disabled (on the home page)... I'll post my screenshot when i got home... i know i don't have to use webot but it just bothers me that I am the only one that couldn't use it :-)

Re: WeBot

Is the only advantage Webot has over Orb that it works to relay with Linux and Orb doesn't? If so, I'll go with Orb, which works with Audible and Webot doesn't.

watadoo 2008-01-09 18:05

Re: WeBot

Webot also enables you to place media serving bots on as many machines as you have access to -- multiple machines from home (win/mac/linux) and mulitple machines from work or other locations. -- then access them all from anywhere.

Webot will also have sharing between friends by the end of January.

Re: WeBot

And that's why I love Webot! I've got 2 bots running now on a notebook and an always-on PC that's hooked up to a 500Gb external HDD. now to wait for video support!

i have exactly the same problem!

not able to get to webot.com or not able to log in and getting a flash version error message

Re: WeBot

i fixed my problem. I messed around with the general.useragent.override in the about:config .

it was blank and now i just updated it with the value it had before and everything works fine again.

vnguyen972 2008-01-18 16:10

Re: WeBot

... and what is the value that it had before? it doesn't seem to have a "reset" option...

Re: WeBot

Cool app! I'm hoping to get this working since I like the interface. I haven't tried Orb yet.

For those of you who are streaming mp3s with Webot, what's the average buffer time until it starts playing? I see one user reports 4 minutes. Maybe I just didn't wait long enough, but if 4 minutes is average, I see less use in this application. When I select a song, it scrolls "LOADING..." and that's all it does.

I also tested it on the Webot host PC, and it plays songs fine. The N800 is on the same network (no firewall/router between devices). I'm running OS2008.

I think it was caused by multiple network interfaces on my Bot PC. I noticed in the WeBot config page that my Bot had a strange IP. This was one of my VMWare VMs. I disabled that interface and restarted the Bot, then it grabbed my VPN one. I disabled that one, restarted the Bot and it grabbed my online X-drive IP. I disabled that, then it worked. Audio started streaming almost immediately (note that this is over a LAN). I'm not sure if it would've worked under any of those other interfaces, but I imagine I'll find out as soon as I need those interfaces back!

How about an option in the Bot software to choose an interface to listen on? Thanks!

Re: WeBot

yep, it's near instantaneous over a fast LAN, a little slower, like 2 or 3 seconds over my chumpy home dsl.

Thanks for making all that effort Ray. That's a good suggestion which I'll forward to the product powers that be.

vnguyen972, if this is still a problem, take a look at bradfarris' post here: http://tinyurl.com/34g839

Re: WeBot

Webot looks good, but in my case it is a battery killer. CPU is pegged while playing an MP3.

In comparison, when playing a mp3 from the flash with the default player, it shows hardly any cpu usage at all.

watadoo 2008-02-16 16:18

Re: WeBot

There shouldn't have been any cpu spike while streaming. Had you just installed your bot and it was indexing your music and photo collections? That action does use some CPU -- typically 40-65% with some spikes. You can minimize this by right clicking on the bot in your systray and choosing "about Webot." a panel will pop up with general info about your bot and its status with a control slider to minimize or maximize the amount of processor juice it uses when indexing -- if you have a large collection you may wish to turn it way down while you're on your box doing other tasks and then crank it up at night or at times when you're away from your pc and it's just idling.

btw, this indexing happens just one time, so once its done you should have no more cpu problems.

I was referring to CPU on the N800. Just having the webot page loaded in the browser without playing a song has the CPU at 55%. This is after the page has downloaded.

edit: is this the same for everyone else, or just my tablet?

of course. duh. pre-coffee posting should not be avoided. By me, anyway.

WeBot has been shut down due to lack of money. There is no estimate or immediate expectation of it coming back to life at this time.

http://www.mhive.org/ is simular to what you guys were using but it doesn't allow for mutli hosts, but since this one does nothing on there server it wont be getting shut down due to cost. They don't have a N8x0 theme but they have an Iphone one so they might make an N8x0 one if we asked.

watadoo, just wanted to give a word of thanks for all the effort and support you put into this project. It's sad to see the current demise, hopefully you will find the resources to continue in the future. I wish you the best.

Thanks, dfinch and andrewfblack. it's a sad thing when a startup goes south. We all put our heart and soul into webot for 17 months or so. time to move on . thanks drew but WeBot is gone.

Is there anyway I can take over the project?
