Well said, and thanks for the cold splash. It won't, of course, stop the speculation nor will our tablets reveal all the information we want, despite being connected (mostly) to the internet;)

I, for one, think this is a mere coincidence that has actually inspired yet another conversation about the future of the NIT and IT in general, all to the good. Not being a programmer, some of the long-term consequences of these sorts of decisions are difficult for me to understand so I can't weigh in on the debate here, but I am fascinated by it and eager to see where it takes us.

Time to apply for a job at Maemo :-p

Seriously I don't think there's nothing to speculate on here...they are simply leaving Helsinki :-p :-)

Indeed, I am looking for a job in London, Dublin or wherever as far is not in Italy

Like maybe we own collectors' items? I sure hope not, since I like the Tablets so darn much. But at least what we own is very useful now and ought to be for a couple more years (at least for my purposes, which are numerous), as long as microb and skype-for-maemo aren't left too far behind.

I can't go into details over my situation other than to say:

-I highly doubt there is even a remote connection with the 4 maemo guys;

-it is not a Nokia thing per se, but a problem originating at a very low level (in a sense). That's all I can say in a public forum... other than I do still appreciate being a Nokia employee and the oportunities that presents. Nokia, IMO, is one of the best.

Hmm 4 employees all working on Maemo project leave, as well as internal employee told to stop blogging internally about Maemo project and whatever else he advocated on his blog, this really doesn't sound like the workings behind a successful product.

Re: Three Nokia types all post about leaving at once

Please let's stop the rumor mongering for a few minutes.

I can't speak for Nokia officially as I am not a "spokesperson". But as someone who works as part of the Internet Tablet team (I am part of the Product Management team), please let me assure that:

1) I still have a job and have no concerns about it, and thus I can safely say that --
2) Linux platforms products are not being killed or discontinued in any sense, so please don't read too much into unrelated events

If Texrat wants to clarify what he meant by his comments, he can do that of his own volition. But as part of the direct team that manages these tablet products, I can safely tell you that there's nothing going on to substantiate these rumors.

Again: please don't try to draw connections between my situation and that of the 4 maemo guys. The probability of any correlation is extremely low. Just wait for the maemo guys to announce further info on their personal blogs when they can. I can't say anything further about my situation; I only posted in the other thread because I did not want anyone thinking I had misled them. I am very sorry I won't be able to fulfill my goal of highlighting certain projects. :(

Well, Texrat, I took your original post to be more about Nokia and the Tablets. Insofar as it's more about you, I sure hope things turn out well. (Heck, I'd like it to work out for the Tablets too, but you're, say, a different category.)

The three guys that left recently, what did they do and what have we lost?

How many folks are left as paid employees working on Maemo?

Re: Three Nokia types all post about leaving at once

About projects and products: Nokia's bet on Linux and open source is increasing, the team is growing and we keep working to release more stuff for your delight. You can especulate as much as you want but this is the fact. :)

About people: Some developers leave, some developers join... These things happen even in the best rock bands, also in the software industry. Nokia, like almost/all of the players in this field is hiring all the time. If you are a good open source developer you know what I mean.

I have enjoyed working with these guys and I owe/love them a Iot: I wish them the best!

btw if you are so concerned... why don't you ask them? It takes less time to drop them two lines than going ahead with a thread of 8 pages.

btw also: texrat has nothing to do with this, nor the other way around. We work in different teams and quite distant in the organization actually. He is a passionate tablet lover and we thank him for this, but that's it.

Thanks qgil and Thoughtfix for commenting...

Threads speculating on the actions of others turn in to a comedy at best...

Now on to Texrat's dilemma. :)

Re: Three Nokia types all post about leaving at once

The Maemo universe can't be so large that losing three people in less than five minutes is insignificant, as some posters seem to be trying to imply. You win some you lose some, but that many that fast has to be a big deal somehow.

I would bet that the people leaving are under some sort of NDA, so how much they can say about why they are leaving is questionable. Therefore, the suggestion about asking them is of limited value.

A journalist would say that no matter how limited the value of an original source is, it is more valuable than any third party especulation.

Anyway, I just wanted to clarify some points because the levels of FUD were growing senselessly quickly. Three blog posts like these in three minutes are indeed not insignificant but from there to dumping Hildon for Canola, closing the platform, dropping the tablets and other stuff we have read here and around... You also get my point. :)
