Re: Desktop is geting reset

I made the test of get out of statusbar the "large clock statusbar" and it didn't reset in a few days. Then, I put it again in the statusbar but first I deleted all alarms, and it reset again (so, It doesn't seem that the problem is on the alarms).

This app is really nice but something is wrong on it.

Any one knows any solution to this? Any workaround or any idea about which is the problem?

Re: Desktop is geting reset

Avalon: The problem is, it does not seem to be consistent across all installs of an application. I never have the problem with statusbar-clock, but often have it with Modest. Also, even if you don't have any alarms set, statusbar-clock checks for alarms every time it updates the time (once a minute), so alarms can't be entirely ruled out.

Maybe this week I will make a version without alarms what-so-ever for testing so people with the problem related to statusbar-clock can see if it is alarm related or not.

I have not had any desktop restarts since my last post. The problem for me was modest.

Yes, unfortunately it was the problem for you :(

I am not having desktop resets since a week or so, I never installed Modest because I use Claws, but nevertheless had a good number of desktop resets in the past few weeks

Not that is something very hard to recover but it is very annoying

Re: Desktop is geting reset

I've been running Modest since I bought my N810. Yesterday I installed fiferboy's statusbar-clock (without setting alarms) and the desktop resets started.

Today I disabled statusbar-clock and everything is working OK again. It's a pitty because I really liked statusbar-clock.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

Is anyone seeing this symptom again?

I just upgraded to Diablo, and I'm getting the dreaded "screen burp" again, where the IT:

1 - goes to a white screen
2 - loses its screen configuration
(all applets disappear from the screen)
(status bar goes back to the factory defaults)

Reboot brings the former (personalized) configuration back, applets and all.

This time around, I can point to the precise point at which the burp occurs for me: Every time I try to change the settings in OMWeather, it happens. It even happens a second time if I try changing OMWeather's settings before rebooting.

Has anyone seen this? Can someone try changing their OMWeather settings and see if it happens for them as well?

Thanks,
DF

I confirm this same behaviour every time I try to change settings on omweather also. I am running diablo. i got the applets back by selecting them again from the home menu. Status bar also got bonked by this too.

Here the same annoying thing :(
Any idea?

Re: Desktop is geting reset

I am getting random desktop resets too since Diablo, but I disabled OMWeather as soon as I realized it was having issues with Diablo (Still installed, but not checked). I am running Large Statusbar clock, Personal Menu, Load Applet, the Advanced Backlight applet, and GPE Summary (latest build from Cobb).

I am using Modest with auto-retrieve as well.

Reference this thread ... an update to OMWeather is in the works.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

I figured, I was just noting that I don't think OMweather was causing my issue because it wasn't enabled.

I've just started having the issue since Diablo install. No OMW, Statusbarclock, Personal Menu, Load Applet, Advanced Backlight, OR GPE summary.

Only desktop item I have is maemo-control-services, to disable metalayer crawler.
Nevermind, my symptoms were different, so don't rule those out on my account.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

I have maemo control services as well (for the same reason) but it doesn't run in the desktop as an applet.

In my case, the resets occur during an idle period (usually when the n810 is in the case) and I tunr it on to find the desktop reset.

This leads me to believe its one of those apps causing the crash since they are constantly running on the desktop.

in addition to omweather, i get random resets while browsing

Re: Desktop is geting reset

FYI, I haven't seen a desktop reset since I turned off Auto-retrieve in Modest. I think it was causing the desktop crashes by trying to retrieve when I wasn't connected to any network.

Would have help if it had happened while I was watching rather than when the machine was idle.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

My desktop has been resetting at least twice a day since I flashed to Diablo. Yesterday I turned off the alarms in Large Statusbar Clock and it hasn't reset since.

I'm running OMWeather, Large Statusbar clock, Personal Menu, Load Applet, Advanced Backlight applet, and Modest auto retrieve of headers is turned on.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

I found that the gpe summary from the testing repo was causing the desktop to reset. I uninstalled it and installed from the normal extras and the problem went away.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

Same problem here - desktop resets once a day at least since I installed Diablo....

But in my case I do not have OmWeather installed at all, so dont think that is the culprit.
I do have Statusbar Large clock, Personal menu, Advanced Backlight applet an Modest auto check installed ... now which one of these is the culprit - difficult to find out....

But again this happens only on my N810.
On my wife's N800 with Diablo and Personal Menu, Omweather, Advanced Backlight applet and Statusbar Large clock, the same reset problem has not happened once.

That leaves Modest - (very weak asuumption though) as one app of many others.

Alsong with desktop resets I also get a screen freeze up on the N810 - whenever I connect to a network (over BT mostly) and when I start Modest or browser or sometimes just randomly.

I guess this is a irrtating Diablo bug, as with Modest installed on OS2008 (pre-diablo) this never happened.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

It never happened to me until i allowed the alarm in the large status bar. I have disabled alarms..... now let see if that is the culprit.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

Hi colleagues. I've got the same issue after flashing Diablo.
Desktop's settings reset once a day if I connected to wifi. If the connection is disabled then nothing happens.
I've OMWeather, Clock, Personal Launcher and HomeTools applets. I suspect OmWeather because it's trying to refresh desktop when new weather data arrived.

Are there any news about root of that?

Re: Desktop is geting reset

umm. this is annoying. i had rare resets before, with omweather and advanced backlight, but now that i have installed personal menu and large statusbar clock they happen regularly and sometimes when i'm not using the tablet. this never happened before. is there a fix that i'm not aware of?

turn of alarm support in large statusbar clock?

debudebu 2009-02-23 20:19

Re: Desktop is geting reset

thanks. i'll try that.. . darn, the easily accessable alarm is the reason i installed large statusbar clock. the built in clock alarm is a pain to set.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

This problem happens to me about once or more an hour. No Modest, no OMW. It wasn't happening when I got this N810 a few months ago. I am trying the no alarm solution, which I hate to do.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

I get this regularly. My suspicion is that it is GPE. But I do have Om weather as well.
I have to do 2 things to fix - control panel, panels ok to fix the status bar. then home, select appelts and check the 5 that I have.

Re: Desktop is geting reset

The last couple days I have also begun to see frequent desktop resets after having been stable for a very long time. Seemed to start around the time of gpodder update, however I've always had the statusbar applet part of it disabled.
