How about the fast seek? I tried several times to use it, but without success. I press the right button on the direction pad several times or keep it pressed, but I only got the seek bar displayed without changing the present position in the film. Maybe I am not doing it the proper way?!

Try playing the problematic video from a terminal with the "-idx" or "-forceidx" options. If it works, then the file is the problem.

Thanks ace. I tried with both options, but mplayer crashed. I can paste here the console reports, but maybe they are too long and spoil the thread. What shall I do?

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

I am able to install 1.0rc1-maemo.27.n770 in either 2006Os or 2007He. I am only interested in 2007He for the time being, as VideoCenter, kmplayer works only in 2007He. On runnning dl copies, like discovery channel, it is stunning! There is no noticebly lipsync problem, both audio and video are smooth and excellent rendering. I have to reset the audio delay from 200ms to 0s. There are also video clips that does not render well. This is under GUI, using mplayer directly from desktop, clicking the icon.

Under xterm, I ran mplayer with the 99TV4IT8a.m3u. It worked, both audio and video, but stuttered so much it is not watchable. However, when added option -nosound, OMG, the thing plays so smooth that I have never seen in my life on this 770! And I am also able to change channels etc.......unfortunately, there is no audio. I am going to try to get the tearsync kernal and see how it goes.

Kmplayer does not work with .27 yet. It streams and "buffering...." but no audio/video. It keeps on going to the next mms:// site.

Thanks, Serge.

Edit: I read the mplayer log, tearsync is disabled on my kernal. I guess I would have to reflash to a newer kernal, then upgrade to 2007He then I can see whether I can run the 99TV4IT, :D

I'm running .27 on 2008HE with tearsync patched kernel. IMO it's the best mplayer version so far in terms of speed and quality.

Mind to tell us more about the system and how you did it? Thanks.

I would like to stick with 2007He as there are quite a few apps that I do not want to give up. Did anybody try 2007He with a 'new' kernel see whether mplayer .27 is working? TIA,

I also am with 2008HE and tearsync, works great, only downside is the stereo sound through the one speaker, which drops the volume too low (only for speaker).

Tearsync kernel should be working with 2007HE, look at fanoush's page.

kaito 2008-05-16 14:58

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

And for mplayer install on 2008HE read Bundyo's post in an old thread.

bunanson 2008-05-16 17:29

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

There is something I still confused about. I had 2007He and worked well and was able to enable tearsync=1. But I see NO improvement. Was the tearsync in the old kernel (package 2006) are different than the tearsync today? I flashed to 2008He last night and cannot get any video media going. They all installed fine, but no video, this included videocenter, media player, kmplayer. I am struggling with mplayer .27. I like to get the kmplayer/video center working on 2008He, but Skype, maemo mapper are more important to me. I will roll back to 2007He and stays with mplayer .27.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

Tearsync kernel was introduced by fanoush less than a month ago. There was no tearsync kernel before that and that option effectively doesn't work. Mplayer .27 builds on top of that by detecting such kernel and switching that option on automatically. So in fact you didn't see any improvment, because there wasn't any - you don't have tearsync, unless flashing that kernel.

Skype works in 2008HE, Maemo mapper didn't try.
Mplayer works perfectly. I never saw such good playback even on my N800.

bunanson 2008-05-16 17:38

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

My mplayer report, say tearsync is enabled. That is why I am questioning about that. I am reading the report from mplayer .27, after playing a clip via xterm, the report said tearsync is enabled. And I can turn it on and off and ther report reportedly so. I am kind of at a lost....

Yesterday I noticed terrible distortion (like overdriving amplifier to clipping) when playing MP3 songs using Mediabox (mplayer engine). It didn't help if I turned down the volume on system volume bar, or in Mediabox itself. This was on a N800 having Diablo.

I didn't try Canola yet, or my N810 with Diablo... but will try later this weekend.

Anyone else running Diablo having similar issues?

Bundyo 2008-05-16 17:48

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

Nope, but i seldom use Mediabox :)

I'll install MM on my 2008HE now.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

@ mara: such a distortion happened to me some nights ago, N800 w/OS2007. I had to reset to recover correct sound. Never happened again, then

I think the easiest way is to place

vo=omapfb

only in /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf and run a video through the command line. If mplayer enables tearsync, then you have it. Also tearsync is only working for omapfb, so Canola doesn't use it.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

I was able to install mplayer.27 on my 770 running 2008he. I tried to run it, it said loading....but no action. And I have to run off to work....on a beautiful sunny lazy Saturday morning. What a life, I mean, do I have a life?

On a side note, there is a lot of goodies on 2008he. Everything that comes with 2008 is there, except NaviMaps. So obviously I would try to use 2008 if possible. For the mean time, the biggest draw back I can see, is crashing on web browsing and system runs kind of slow. I will see whether I can put up with this in exchange for BT/shared folders/xterm etc than bundled with 2008.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

I got it to work. It is incredible. Like you said, i have never seen 770 play video clip so well. However, there is a BIG problem. I read people are complaining that the vol is low. Mine the volume is worse than low, there is none! However, it sounds incredibly loud and clear when connected to my earbuds. And also skype installed and runs but I cannot make it to make call "sound record problem". If I cannot make the audio work, or i have to tie down with a pair earbuds all the time, that is going to be tough. I am going to make the bootmenu work, see whether I can have 2008He on the flash and 2007He on the mmc.........I read there is wifi problem....

Edit: success, now I have 2008He on intflash boot and 2007He on mmc boot, instructions here, http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...800#post182800.

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

No wifi problem, i encountered so far a problem with Bluetooth (maemo-pan) related to dbus and a problem with Canola, also related to dbus. Quite annoying though.

Then there's the volume. In my tests i learned that it is not related to the backends or codecs you use, because it always sounds okay in headphones and garbled in speaker. You can make it somewhat louder using ao=sdl and afm=libmad, but not very high and still garbled (not as much as with dspmp3), okay in earbuds otherwise.

Maybe fanoush can tell us more on that?

Didn't test Skype calling till now.

EDIT: Fixed the Canola problem - the atabake mplayer backend is checking osso_software_version to see what OS it is on, acting accordingly - that effectively leading to atabake receiving EOS (end of stream) and not playing video files. Put this in /etc/osso_software_version:

Code:

SU-18_2007HACKER_4.2007.46-3_PR_MR0
to get videos running in Canola. Another good thing is that Canola is using omapfb on 770 (maybe xv is too slow) and the videos run okay (not sure if they have tearsync though). So if you have N800 and you want to get Canola running faster and with less CPU - you can try the same (not sure if it will work. Some official support by the Canola guys of the tearsync kernel (maybe tearsync is disabled in slave) will be great though.

I am so impressed with the gps lock. It connected and locked instantly. OMG, instantly, not like its ******ed sibbling, N810, takes 10-20 min to lock. OMG, this is the underdog, 770, I am thrill........

In /etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf add this row:

Code:

subcp=[your-code-page]
For instance for cyrillic windows-1251/cp1251 use this:

Code:

subcp=cp1251

Not a very good advice. It is better to use '/home/user/.mplayer/config' instead. If you modify '/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf', you will have troubles when upgrading mplayer.

Heh, yeah, but in some cases mplayer effectively ignored the user config, so i prefer using the main config. Not sure when this happens, probably in slave mode.

It can probably ignore settings when you run mplayer as root. Probably adding a symlink into '/root/.mplayer' that would point to '/home/user/.mplayer' can prevent this from happening. But if there are some (other) problems, it's better to track them down and fix.

If global configuration file is edited, application manager gets confused once you try to install mplayer update (it does not know if you want to keep your modified file or take a clean version from .deb package or merge the changes). So everything fails in a not very user friendly way. If you upgrade mplayer from xterm, you see all the errror messages of course and know what's happening. But inexperienced users who generally use application manager only, will be extremely confused

It's audio latency compensation.

If i remember well, something similar was reported some versions earlier and was later fixed.
Earlier we had a problem with incorrect audio delay estimation for videos with single channel audio.

Please check if you have lipsync problems on your videos, that's more important.

On Nokia 770 this audio delay compensation value is hidden in '-ao gst' audio driver, so that it is not visible from outside.

The guys who are recommending to edit '/etc/mplayer/mplayer.conf' don't give up either ;) There are lots posts around repeatedly spreading information that is not completely true or even sometimes just wrong. One of the other popular misleading statements is that 'slow graphics bandwidth is limiting video playback'. Really, I got tired of replying all these posts already :)

One of the solution is to make a FAQ and just post a link to it whenever one of such questions arises. But such approach may also have pitfalls, see http://www.gossamer-threads.com/lists/maemo/users/38777 Some people are extremely sensitive and demand to be treated personally :)

Bundyo 2008-08-16 18:00

Re: mplayer_1.0rc1-maemo.27

Of course running as root will ignore it, its not his config to start with. :)

On the other hand - why installing the mplayer.conf then? Why not creating it on first start if it doesn't exist?

EDIT: The reason i'm thinking about this comes from the multi user systems. This config should persist between users and you can't forbid writing in it. Of course we have other situation, but i still think that's wrong.

I have a problem with screen blanking too on my N810. It appeared with diablo (but perhaps I upgraded to .29 at about the same time). See http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...ad.php?t=22213.
