Re: Carman Update Coming August

I have no problems to run Carman 0.6.3 and Elmscan 5 BT with Diablo. This was priority #1 that Carman runs well with Diablo.

But ... we have August :D :D ... come on, give us the d/l link please ;)
You really mean August 2008 ;)

i can find no logs for carman, and would like to see more on that front in a future version. if i could do any troubleshooting, i might be able to figure out what is going wrong.

I have the same scanner and have been unable to connect. I am able to get the n810 to recognize and pair with the scanner, however, when trying to connect I recieve a "Connection Error" message.

Any suggestions aside from waiting for the next release?

For those who have a connection error, there is an update of the python package that may solve the problem.

Where would one go about getting said python package update?

I saw a python update in redpill mode a few days ago, forgot the exact description.
It worked for me.
Don't you see the same update ?

It's practical, eye-popping, already-there-or-headed-for-open-source projects like this that make the tablets shine.

More, more!

Hi folks,

we are really close to release the next version of Carman (0.7 beta1). I've uploaded some screenshots of the next version in the carman site (http://openbossa.indt.org/carman/screenshots.html).

Carman 0.7 beta1 should be out next week.

Naturally you'll Email these when they're up so I can take the Bluetooth ELMscan for another test drive in the Yaris? ;)

"next week" wouldn't happen to be next Monday, eh? :D I take my trip Tuesday. Anyways, looking forward to it.

Don't you see the same update ?

in fact i have seen several updates to assorted python packages. i have installed the python 2.5 package offered by the indt repository, and i still get the connection error.

can you specify which python package(s) you have, and what versions they are?

most appreciated.

folhabranca 2008-10-01 13:45

Re: Carman Update Coming August

hi brendan,

there was a problem in the python2.5 package dependency on the version released on early July that removed the bluetooth support in the python core. This issue was fixed on the version 2.5.2-1osso4. So, please update your python package. The symptom was that when you try to connect to an obd device, you immediately got a connection error message. If this is is not the case, generate some logs and then post on them on the carman forum on the garage page.

Br,
Eduardo

Re: Carman Update Coming August

folhabranca,

thank you, i can now connect to the elmscan obd device. the update to python did the trick.

some QA notes:

i took my car for a ride around the block and was recording the data, after a minute or two, i got an message "Connection Lost" and the app was back at the initial screen where you choose the connection type. i reconnected and the data recorded was gone.

i am not sure if this is an issue with the connection or if i ran out of space in the filesystem and that caused the app to fault and close the connection.

not sure what the new version has in the way of configurations, but having the ability to save recorded data somewhere other than the internal memory would be nice, especially if going on a long trip.

i would like to generate some logs for you and i notice that there are a couple parameters for log format and what have you. can you give a few examples of the values those parameters take? --log-format=FORMAT is a little vague. does that mean i can specify csv or something else? what about the other parameters as well.

Do you plan such thing with Carman too? So I can use it with my Eee PC :)

Well, you should not need full HD for an Eee with the same resolution as the N8x0, you know...

lol, still nothing.

Web Address : http://repository.maemo.org/extras-devel
Distribution : diablo
Component : free non-free

Still nowhere to be found. I already had 0.6 installed, does that change something? I uninstalled it but 0.7 is still not in my list.

What am I missing?

That's the old repository. Carman will be distributed through Extras.

Well, I found (and installed) 0.7. It looks very nice, and the parrts I could test (map) seemed nice.

But, when can we get a definitive list of which BT-based ODB-II scanners work? Especially the cheaper 327-based ones...

gazza_d 2008-10-09 15:32

where did you manage to find 0.7 then? come on, let us in on the secret ;-)

It's in extras/devel, as others have stated.

It "just appeared" in Application Mangler yesterday around lunchtime.
