Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
I've recently flashed Diablo, and it's running smooth.
Today I wanted to update the Wayfinder maps, but much to my dismay all maps I tried to download were corrupt. I've tried Eastern-Central-Europe and Germany-Alps so far. I've tried to download both twice, no luck. Any clues? |

Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
Whilst I have downloaded the new European and Canada maps without any problems I cannot get Eastern USA. The first three times I tried I got 'download failure'. So I cleared all the other maps off my disc (16Gb) but still cannot get the map. My last attempt (7th) was running for 22 hours and got stuck at about 50% which is where it has stopped each time.
Any suggestions? |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
Even if the size was the same they might have improved the coverage.
Sometimes roads disappear and new ones appear. Italy's map went up only for 2Mbs, but of course the remaining 231Mb of data has been updated as well! :) |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
I cannot see anything more than the 2006 maps. I have upgraded to Diablo. Must I subscribe to Wayfinder too in order to access the new upgraded maps?

Now if only the USA East maps would complete the download, and Wayfinder would lower their subscription fees to something reasonable. |

Then I decided to try opening the Comcast homepage on my tablet first then opened Wayfinder to download the map... I was successful after only 2.5 hours this time... go figure. Maybe the same thing is happening to you with your ISP? |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
The maps found here:
http://www.navicoretech.com/Consumer...B/wfnavigator/ have been updated to 2008.1 Should make life easier. |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
will these work with the older version of the Map application?...i have diablo but i downgraded mine so that i could use the macchanger crack for wayfinder.
|
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
I've never, ever been able to download the larger map sets with the Map application. It always fails in the middle of the download. I can download Singapore, but USA East or West is apparently impossible, regardless of time-of-day, regardless of how much space I have left on my memory card.
If I didn't have an N810, I would not have USA maps at all. I guess I'll just have to stick with ancient map data. So frustrating! |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
Did you try to download them from your desktop using the provided links (in this thread) ?
|
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
just got done loading the new maps...and they WILL work with the old version of the map software and the navicore crack running!!
|
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
I tend to be homebound and have not been able to check to see if the newest map app has fixed the travel speed bug as promised by Wayfinder. It used to only show KM/H no matter what the settings were. Can anyone confirm they can get MPH on the main map screen while moving?
Thanks |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
Other then the (supposedly) faster gps fix and newer maps, are there any other updates/fixedbugs/newfeatures in the latest map app?

Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
sounds like there are a whole lot of people downloading those usa maps.
but still, having to reflash just to get download going again? im guessing thats more a case of the app not telling the user that its having a temporary problem connecting, and the user going fully overkill because of that lack of info... more likely then not the reflash to just enough time for the number of connections on the download server to drop... |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
I tried 4 times without success. The last three with a clean map folder. Everytime, all 700MB had successfully downloaded and it failed on the installing map step. The N810 was left with an unknown map in the list.
Initially, I did not want to believe cryptoboy. But after four failed downloads, I had no option but to try reflashing again. It could be just luck, but then finally it worked after reflash. |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
That is what worked for me....after a failed map install it left a bunch of garbage files around. I could have deleted them manually, but at the time doing a re-install seemed to be the safest route. After that SUCCESS! :)
Note: Now that you can download to the PC (Wayfinder website is updated) I am going that method for getting the USA-East 2008 map. Much easier!!! |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
Although it probably doesn't matter anymore due to the 2008Q1 maps here is some older software & maps from 2007... http://www.navicoretech.com/Consumer.../en_GB/tablet/ its strange, but previously the maps on my Chinook were outdated, from 2006

This bug has been around a long time. The bug has been acknowledged by Wayfinder and should have been fixed in the new OS. See thread "Wayfinder displays speed in km/h" http://www.internettablettalk.com/fo...mperial&page=2 anyone? |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
km/h vs miles is fixed when you download voices. worked for me.

I am a newbie. Please let me know how to load the map downloaded using PC onto my N810. Do I just unzip, untar everything into the map directory? Thanks, Alex |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
i think all the failed downloads has messed ujp my internal card on my 810. i cannot put both usa and usa west on the card. is it possible to do? i really dont want to re download my maps
can someone list the file structure? thanks |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
once you download it on the PC, unzip it and move the whole folder mapdata_XXXX into '\map' directory on your memory card.
it works for either internal or external on N800 (not sure if you can move it from the internal on N810 to the external, search here for answers) the last map you used in the application is stored under "mapdata" folder if its the older one you can delete it or rename the directory. basically you can have all the different maps in directories like "mapdata_Singapore" "mapdata_XYZ" but once you select it in Map application, it will re-name that directory to just "mapdata" |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
The A-GPS seams to have worked for me.
I've been traveling to various points between London and Manchester over the last few days and have consistently always got a lock within a maximum of say 1 minute or so (sometimes much quicker). Even when doing 70MPH on the motorway before switching Wayfinder on. Prior to this, it typically took several minutes and sometimes took 5 to 10+ minutes when moving at speed on occasions. To answer someones earlier question about how often it connects to "refresh" when location has not changed. during the 5 days or so of using it (at least on 3 or 4 days, probably started Wayfinder at least a dozen+ times including playing around) after the initial update it only tried connecting for an update the once. so it is not "every time" that's for sure. and you can "usually" still expect a fast connection even if the mobile is not available. That's my experience of it anyway. Now could someone give an idea of the amount of data it needs to fetch as well ? I too am curious as to what the cost of using it abroad would be... Zuber |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
*bump* i am still unable to download voices can anyone help me with this?

Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
After reading through these threads on Wayfinder (2008 under Diablo), I can declare that I am not impressed!
For all the trouble it's been trying-and-trying-and-trying to download either US map to review for completeness, my time is much too valuable to keep this up--especially at the price that they want for the license. I bought a TomTom ONE for my wife and it is 100x better than Wayfinder in terms of functionality, ease of use, etc. I don't think that Wayfinder is worth it even at 1/10th of the price of their license! UPDATE: I finally got the US West map to download--it took overnight. I had to change the CONNECTION settings to be ALWAYS ON instead of time out after 10 minutes. QUALITY EVALUTION: I did three lookups on areas that I'm familiar with and found NUMEROUS ERRORS (bad street spelling, wrong street intersections, showing streets as through-streets when in fact they are dead-ends, etc) in THREE TEXAS CITIES (Houston, San Antonio and College Station). The map data that comes with this application is not worth the money. Their documentation says that they rely on their customers to help them correct the maps. They should change their business model to give substantial discounts to customers based on how many errors they report instead of making them pay great sums of money for poor quality maps. |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
After downloading the USA East and USA West maps, Nokia Map could nolonger route from the New England area to Florida. It would make several attemps but decide it was unable to find a route. Also, I am very disappointed in the inability to route between maps.
I had the opportunity to test Nokia Map on a 400 mile trip, and I was very pleased by the interface. I was very impressed by the display of information, the timing of voice prompts, and the speed of recalculating routes. However, the licencing is too expensive when compared to other available products. I really want commercial grade navigation on my N800, but until the price comes down I will stick with Garmin Mobile XT on my N95-3. |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
I agree, from what I can gather here I won't be buying a license for the map app. Yesterday, Amazon was selling a far superior gps for $88 shipped free. Even though it would be nice if the N810 could be that all-in-one device for traveling, its still not there yet and the Wayfinder GPS is the show-stopper for me.
I'm seriously considering getting the $88 GPS and downgrading from a N810 to a N800. Combined costs would be similar and overall, the two devices would be more useful. I like Nokia products, but they need to re-think their business plan. Why did they get into bed with Wayfinder? Why add WiMax when they could have upgraded the memory/processor, hardware for better performance. Nothing is more frustrating then using a device that works halfway. |
Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
eh...just say screw it and use the macchanger hack... serves em right LOL

Re: Wayfinder maps updated!!!
I don't understand all the complaining about cost. I downloaded the West map and it's great. My total cost outlay: $0. The amount I intend to ever pay: $0. I will mainly rely on Maemo Mapper. Its cost: $0.
