If you wont provide pictures what about a diagram.

You will not have to open the tablet. This would void the warranty.

Thanks

Great, I'm currently looking for a mini SD card and its obvious normal SD cards are cheaper and easier to find.

So when will the product be finished and when will we see a prototype.

Crave1, you have to expect some speculation, especially from this sort of crowd. Some of that is from curiosity, some is out of concern. Your questioning of an activity that is natural really increases the latter for me.

It should be ready in less than 3 weeks. I will show the finished product before then.

I'm not questioning the speculations, I think it's great. I'm just answering any question I can to show how much thought I already put into this.

Another question... will this upgrade be user installable or will we have to send you our N810?

Not trying to be argumentive... just confused.

I didn't even notice the ports under the battery!

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

I think I'd be more interested if it was a full sized SD card. The N810 is the only device I have that uses miniSD. Does this totally replace the internal 2GB? Do I have to solder to install?

No and no, this is from all indications a miniSD to SD adapter with a cable thin enough to slip out under the door.

No soldering or replacement of the internal 2GB. This would be easy for anyone to install. It also can easily be removed, and it uses full size SD card.

Thanks.

I'd suggest an external USB or miniUSB slot, so things could be connected to the tablet, while kick-stand is closed.

Just from brief observation it looks like there is space next to the home/switcher button. If you remove battery it can be seen there is space and even hole on the right. There are charger and headphone connectors on the other side in same place.

One can also get thin wires out through speaker grill there.

Given that you can setup the n8xx in host mode, an adapter isn't really needed because you can easily just add something to the unit outside of the unit like you would any other USB connection. Sure, that kinda kills the whole portability factor, but at this point it's a tradeoff you'd almost have to make until SSD technology progresses a bit more.

This adapter would make me highly consider getting an n810.

definitely im gonna have one... this will make iphone/itouch users envy for memory... 32GB!!! wow... its like having two ipod touch. i just wish it will never slow the N810s performance.

If it works as described, and I have no reason to believe otherwise, sounds like you have something I'd be interested in. I would have to get an N810 first, however...

This is a mini SD to full size SD card adapter and the speed will depend on the speed class of the card you use. I use a PNY in the test unit and the access was faster that the 8GB MiniSd card I was using before.

I will keep every one posted with the release date.

Thanks

I am planning on purchasing the N810 WIMAX when available in the Baltimore area and would also be interested in your 32GB memory.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

This may be a dumb question, but I gotta ask it -

Has anyone ever looked into upgrading the flash memory on the n800 (the internal flash, where the OS usually resides) to be as big/bigger than the 810? Is there any way that's feasible?

Benson 2008-09-04 02:54

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

It is as big. The 2GB is an internal SD card, essentially. (It's actually a single chip with flash and an SD interface, but not the same mechanical interface.)

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

I am interested, not for my current N800 but for a new one, I already sell the N800 and I need now a new N810, just asking:

0. I don't care about warranty and shipment to FL.

1. If I send you (priorly) the money could you buy the N810 and do the SDHC mod without modifying the form factor?

2. I need a 3G modem to solve my connectivity problems, could you put one inside (as the EeePC 3G mod) without modifying the form factor?

For the curious I will use this modded N810 as my primary phone (that's why form factor is important to me), I already have SIP accounts and asterisk linked to my home asterisk in my current N800, I just need to solve the always connected problem and external modems sucks badly :D

Wimax is not ready in my area (well it is but in the 2.5GHz band and the N810 Wimax is 3.5GHz so that's why I can't buy the Wimax edition  )

edit: my mistake n810 wimax is 2.5GHz and my area service is 3.5GHz.

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

The external bluetooth connected modem is more than than acceptable to me because it keeps the carriers out of the N810 and keeps it open.

Wrong; the N810W is 2.5 GHz, though depending on coverage and pricing, you might still want the 3g mod.

For those who are confused, i'm pretty sure he's meaning to create one of those adapters like they have created for the PSP:

http://www.psp-hardware.com/images/uploads/conv.jpg

one end goes into the card slot, and it leads to a larger card slot (but without any chips or components inbetween, just pin-to-pin connections). He plans to fit it under a new backplate using FFC.

i want a few :)

Re: 32GB SD adapter For N810

If you remove the battery cover you'll see 4 test point pads which are probably used for manufacturing test. These pads connect to the USB and provide a place to connect to and create a totally removable built in card reader.

This is very similar to what I am making but it would not be as basic as this. This type of cable is not suitable for what I need. Normal FFC cable would not work. The cables are custom made and the cover is made like the original N810 door.

I am getting the parts late this week with the cover early next week. Once it is tested and I receive a sample of the cover and it meet my quality expectations I will post it so all can see. I am not hiding what I am doing it is very apparent if you read all the posting. When I show the unit I want everyone to understand what is going on. This is why I have not posted any photos of the prototype unit. I just wanted to show that it works. I also have to do this in my spare time but it will be completed soon and I have many people waiting for it.

I am also working on a version for the N770 but I do not think many people will want it, I am doing it because it is simple to do and I am converting 2 Nokia 770 for playing nusic in my car.

I said earlier in the Thread that I would post this as soon as I receive the parts. The original unit I posted was just a prototype. Comming very soon

Thanks.

These are not the points that I am using for the upgrade adapter. There are many reasons not to use this.
1. It will draw additional current from the N810 battery, changing the run time of the tablet.

2. When you run media playing programs they would not see the files stored on this type of card.

3. The card reader would have to be custom made and it would cost too much.

4 these connections require a custom made connector and this would be expensive to make.

5. This connector should be left for more exciting upgrades.

Thanks
