Alright, last time I say it (Reggie had said it a couple of times as well): this is exactly what Reggie did. He appended the [Palm OS], [Android], [KDE] etc tags at the beginning of all posts of each thread. Because it was anticipated that otherwise we might had a problem.

Thanks to these tags *I think* the problem is little to none. It's more a formal problem (it feel better to have an own subforum) than real (users use mainly search engines and they are as clever or stupid to find what they are looking for wit or without subforums).

The thing is sometimes, its nice to just see whats there (in a particular category) I have said I am willing to go through all the threads and update them. But really we need the original information to be able to do this, and since itts apparent that, this information exists, how can we get it?

All we are trying to do is make this into something workable. YOU TOOK IT AWAY, OK. You heard me 10 times, help me get this information so we can start to put this back together again. We are all not making this up, itt was useful to US.

The fact is, itt would be easier and cleaner, to just put back the sub-forums, under the alternatives. Since you are refusing to do that, help us get the information to make things easier for everyone in the world we have left.

I don't follow. There is a thread here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=25207 from the old PALM subforum without PALM in the title. I just picked out the top on I found, but you have to look through a lot more to find a specific one when you are looking through all the alternatives than if you were just looking through the PALM subforum.

Can you please provide a list of all the posts that were in each sub-forum.

I would be happy to accept the list for all of the old sub-forums, and pass them out to anyone who wants to help.

I want to use this information to update tags so all the treads can be more searchable.

It would be nice to decide on the deprecated thread before combing through several 100 posts.. It would also be nice to decide on a methodology, so we are all doing the same thing

The point would be to put the KDE: or Android: at the beginning of the thread. It would be great if you could do something with the database, adding these to all the threads.

This would then categorize them, and it would be searchable. It would also allow new posts to be categorized with the old ones, by the author's including the proper MER: at the beginning of the title.

As for searchability, forums are not the place to put documentation (that's what the wiki is for). So don't use them for it.

I've glanced through all the posts in this thread, and I don't see anyone asking that the subforums be resinstated. (Just that they were useful and we should find an alternate way to be able to find them, hence penguinbait wanting to tag all the posts from the old subforums.) Therefore, your post is off topic.

I think you are misunderstanding what I am asking? I want the list that Reggie provided so I can update all the tags so the tag searches will be more useful.

I also want to get the deprecated thread decided upon so I can go through these threads one time, not multiple.

Just a note, I've already tagged five pages of threads with their subforum names... Somebody start with the smallest threads and work up until you start hitting threads with my tags, and then hey, we're done.

Here is a list of the 59 posts that do not HAVE KDE in the title. So I think your 3 number is a tad off. This is why the KDE search is not sufficient as far as I am concerned. So we will spend our time cleaning up the 135 posts in the KDE forum and the 100's of other in the other forums as this is our only recourse. If we update all the tags to be useful, then this will solve my main gripe, which is to be easily be able to find ALL the old posts in any specific section. Additionally if we do the tag's right for future posts it will all be together just fine. Then we can post those tag searches that will be more accurate on Qole's Alternative readme page.

These are my proposed TAG changes for the [KDE] threads, in the previous post. Perhaps Gnuton or someone can take a closer look at the KDE4 threads, some additional may need to be deprecated.

My wife is kind of pissy because I just spent my entire evening doing this but it was worth it. Going through all these threads made me realize there are some good threads hidden in here and lots of community support. I really appreciate being able to be part of this community for the last three years, itts been an amazing experience.

I know this is ugly, but, here it is, if I am given mod rights, I will do it, if another mod, wants to do it, please have at itt.

Qole, Quim, Reggie, before I go putting tags on everything has any consensus on thread deprecation?

One thing the pages and pages of Alternatives threads have taught me: there are a lot of GarnetVM threads. Dozens of posters unique to those threads. Quite a sub-community!

Can a moderator please look at the few threads that needs to be attended to.

Hopefully this will make things somewhat easier when doing searches. I would like to see some useful tags be applied to all the threads in the Alternative's to make them easier to use.
