Thanks. ;)

Actually, the national flag comment you make is exactly why I lean toward the more abstract of the applications. It could...or might not be...the logo image.

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 merchandise and design...

Cool stuff!

I think we have the pieces and it's now a matter of finding the right combination.

In the last Summit there was a limited edition of the maemo.org black shirt that looks exactly like http://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php...1&d=1249575403

I can tell people LOVE it. I'm not big fan of black shirts (because there are already too many) but this one has a great combination of colors that makes it cool and slick.

Then again, there might be a good winner behind an orange shirt, since both maemo.org and Amsterdam have a preference for that colour.

Then http://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php...1&d=1249576944 is a very good idea.

I very much prefer the original "X X X" because in Amsterdam is everywhere recognized and it's still cool if you have never seen this before. the "X" alone might look more stylish but reminds me too much to the Xorg logo and, dunno, looks like totally disconnected from the original local flavour.

National flags are problematic in many countries and contexts, but a local flag referring a local event is different (trust me: I'm Catalan) :) The Amsterdam flag specifically is a usual marketing tool used in local souvenir shops, football games, public buildings... Unproblematic. To me, reminds me of beer (don't ask me why). :)

About the text, "maemo.org - SUMMIT 2009" is a not so strong combination. What about

UPDATE concerning the "FiF" shirt... I've removed it from the wiki so that we could have some talk about the limited edition shirt at the Summit. If Nokia will pay, I'm all for doing it. :)

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 merchandise and design...

Below will be a few posts containing various design/color combinations on a black shirt. Keep in mind that the fewer colors, the less expensive the shirts will be. For instance, one of the posts contains orange/red on the front and orange/white on the back (three colors), but it would be much better to do orange/red on the front and just orange on the back (two colors).

Anyway, I'm doing these as separate posts, because the forum doesn't let me attach more than 5 images at a time.

Black shirt with orange, red, and white. The back could easily be the previous m.o logo application, or just orange -- it could even be orange/red. Red is taken from the Amsterdam flag.

I still like my proposed smaller "maemo.org" logo over the breast, with your the larger orange & white "MAEMO SUMMIT 2009 x x x OCTOBER 9-11 - AMSTERDAM" on the back (at the size you show above).

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 merchandise and design...

I'm with Jaffa-- I like Quim's proposal, just reversed.

The logo over the "pocket" combined with event on the back is the most common form I've seen. BUT, that may be a US thing...

EDIT: "event" was misspelled as "even".

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 merchandise and design...

Just thinking... This would be virtually impossible due to time constraints, but taking the "rock concert" shirt as an example, it would be really cool to be able to print all of the attendees' names under the logo on the back of the shirt -- like how cities are printed on concert shirts. :)

But... Does everyone like this? Or, are there any other ideas? I'd love to know/see! :)

Unless anyone strenuously objects with valid arguments, I think we have a t-shirt design.

Re: Maemo Summit 2009 merchandise and design...

Very cool!

My vote goes for the black shirt with orange/white combination. The "X X X" in grey looks a bit depressing, as opposed to the vivid (and original) white colour.

Then... if we would have still budget we could do like the cool FLOSS conference do nowadays: a special shirt for the volunteers in the organization. A combination of usefulness (easy to spot who can help you) and gratituted (a Thank You! shirt) ... If that would happen I would go for the orange shirt with white fonts.

A two shirt idea is great. Last years LugRadio Live had volunteers in yellow (if I remember rightly) t-shirts which made them stand out as people to go chat to if you had a problem.

I agree with Quim also on t-shirt colour selection, black for the free t-shirt, orange for the volunteer shirt although the breast pocket design is also very nice.

Ok, so we can do orange/white on black for the "main" shirt. That's great.

What are people's favorite maemo.org logo, though:

Orange with a white "e" or white with an orange "e":

http://talk.maemo.org/attachment.php...1&d=1249660397

That's 3-colors, though... Probably too expensive. Let's try to keep it to 2-colors.

As an aside, I've seen this sort of thing done in "reverse" on a lot of shirts lately (a la some North Face merchandise) where the large logo is on the front and the breast logo is on the back -- on and around the left shoulder blade. It's kind of cool (and different), but I don't know if anyone here would like something so unorthodox.

I love the "rockstar black" maemo.org shirt I got at Summit 08; I've been wearing it a lot this summer. It basically looks like one of the ones Tim posted above...

I think it looks the most "stylish" of all the logos, but the two side X's are lost...

Is there any way to get a "middle ground" that keeps the stylish looks of the logo above, but keeps all three X's of the Amsterdam flag visible?

EDIT: I just realized... it is the pan-and-scan version of the logo! M.J.Fox would be appalled!

He's already emailed me.

Sure, the logo could be altered to encompass all three X's. In fact, I did one, but didn't like it so I didn't post it. (Frankly, I like how the X's are used as more of an abstract than a literal flag reference, but I'm abstract like that.)

I'll see if I can keep playing with it, but I'm inclined to say that the logo/shirt design is finished at this point. Especially, since there haven't been many more ideas thrown into the mix.

Tim
