I've thought the same thing about figures drifting but IMO only way to be sure is that one has to test how it works in real life.

I'll fill the feature request this week after I've figured the feature better out in my head.

Re: Fuelpad for Fremantle

In the maemo packages page it was suggested that Fuelpad should have documentation. As Fulpad users from N800 times might have noticed, Fuelpad had built-in documentation.

In its wisdom, Nokia decided to remove the help system from Fremantle and therefore the Fremantle version does not include any documentation. I therefore converted the Diablo documentation to html and it is now available on-line both in English and in Finnish:

This documentation should be of use also with Fremantle version even though the user interface is a bit different.

Btw. still one thumb to go.

Thank You and other testers as well.

There's already a new package in devel, which fixes this bug.

JLU, Great app! I'm so glad you brought this to the N900, thank you!

Just a note, I was unable to import a text file with my current data, it crashed the app (maybe because i had a header row?)...

Suggestion: Would be nice to have a column for price/liter or price/gallon (which may not be the same as fill divided by price, given taxes/fees/etc.).

Suggestion: Would be nice to have time as well as date... I know, probably too much detail.

Suggestion: add more service columns/fields, or even better, let the user customize columns, or even even better, download custom schedules for their automobile.

Suggestion: tie into GPS, let N900 take a GPS marker of the location of the fill-up and service as part of the entry, could even probably find the data online about the gas station.

Suggestion: Bit of a stretch, but how about tying into camera, let user take a picture of gas pump (petrol pump i mean!) and detect/extract the amount of petrol pumped, price/liter, total cost, etc...

Looks great, thanks again!

About importing your text file: If you like, you can send me the file that crashed Fuelpad and I'll try to find out the reason. Send me a PM or if you can find my e-mail, mail the file directly.

I didn't quite understand your idea on a column for price/liter or price/gallon since Fuelpad already has such a column. Do you mean a column that you fill instead of Fuelpad calculating it?

I did mean a user-editable field, though thinking about this suggestion, adding this feature may be more trouble than its worth. At some of the places I fill up at, they charge an extra amount on top of the price/liter (such as a credit card processing fee).

Thanks again!

I have thought about syncing myself, too, but haven't really had any thoughts on how to implement it.

If you like, you could submit this as a feature request in Fuelpad's garage page. The address to feature requests is https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/?at...54&func=browse. TMO is good for informal discussion but even good feature requests are easily forgotten here. I have my own needs which drive the development mostly but I have implemented many suggestions made by the users. One good example implemented from a feature request is the reminder system, which I don't use myself at all.

!

Even in that case (extra fee on top) I would calculate the fee as part of the fuel price and use the total price to calculate the price/amount of fuel.

Hi jlu,

Thanks for this nice App. I will definitely use it.
I'm a user of the 'www.spritmonitor.de' site, and I used to take note of every fueling in my old N95 notes, to then sync it to the site. I'm now using your app in my N900.

Nice that you used SQL lite. I'm a bit off of hobby time atm, but I will write some tool to fetch the data from spritmonitor.de and import it into Fuelpad and maybe also the reverse.

Btw: I think that when editing the car, it should read "Brand" and not "Mark".

Hi,

Is there a way that I'm missing to have the sort options saved between runs? Date always comes up ascending. I would prefer to see the most recent entries.

thanks,
Frank

No you haven't missed it since it is unfortunately not possible. I myself find it quite annoying too, but haven't gotten around to implement saving the sort order. It's on my unwritten TODO list.

That would be awesome! Feel free to contact me privately. www.spritmonitor.de seems like quite a nice site. There's also a Finnish site http://tankkaus.com/ with a similar idea but it seems to be only in Finnish.

Thanks. I've always been a little unsure about some of the English terms used. Actually my dictionary would use 'make of car'. Wikipedia also has an article List of car makes. Is it different in the UK and US English?

Last night I did a small test run with this importing thing. No code yet.. just made a few SQL Insert statements to assess the feasibility of it. One thing I noted was that the partial fillings are somewhat of a problem on this. Either it should be also supported by Fuelpad or for now I'll have to group partial fillings prior to import.
Maybe the tankkaus site could also be supported (or other similar)

Well, English is not my first language as I'm Portuguese but I think Car Make is also OK. This might be an US/UK English issue indeed. Let's hear from the native English speakers out there.

The only problem I see with currently not supporting partial fills, is that the consumption for partial fill records is shown incorrectly. The overall consumption is not affected since it is calculated from SUM(fill)/SUM(trip), not from individual consumptions.

Is grouping of partial fills made automatically in spritmotor so that you don't need to make a group yourself?

Yes, it is done automatically on the next total fill. You just need to enter the total Km in the odometer, amount of fuel in liters and whether it is a total or partial fill.
If it is a partial fill no average is calculated; these values will be pending and will sum up on the next total fill, when the average is also calculated.

No that I think it more, the calculated consumption which is stored in the database is used in various places. I will have to start rethinking all those sql queries and get rid of the stored consumption.

It supports that, under the Settings, scroll down to Units, unit system. Set to US.

I'm sorry, I just changed mine last night and thought I remembered exactly where it was. It's under the main settings.

Under:
Driver and car
Reminders
Units
Then Unit system, select US.

If you are using the N900 version, here is a screenshot from the Settings dialog which is available from the main menu:

https://garage.maemo.org/frs/downloa...3-settings.png

When you open the settings, you'll need to scroll down a little bit to find the Unit system selection (it is not shown in the screenshot either)

Re: Fuelpad for Fremantle

I am very pleased with the response Fuelpad has got on N900. Over 400 downloads in about three days is quite a bit more than the versions for N8x0 ever got. Each new N8x0 version got between 100 and 200 downloads during the first few weeks (the total on the Downloads page is now over 2000).

Since I think that the Downloads page is not really meant for discussion, I'll try to answer some of the questions and comments here:

Quote:

suggestion trip: i find it better if you put in km that the app calc the trip
Isn't this exactly how it works: fill the overall distance and tap the next field (any other) and Fuelpad automatically calculates the distance from the previous fill (the trip)? I have also implemented the vice versa: enter the trip and the overall distance is calculated. This feature will be available in the near future.

Quote:

But I'm not sure the database would prefer to meet in /home/user/MyDocs/database.db
The database file was moved from /home/user/MyDocs/ on purpose since the sqlite based database could be corrupted when a USB connection to a PC is made. This decision was discussed in this thread earlier. A future version will probably include an improved import/export functionality which will allow to copy the database to MyDocs. Until then you will have to use XTerminal or some other way to copy the database file for backup purposes or whatever needs you have.

At first I thought that this would be completely out of reach but after seeing the PhotoTranslator app, I like the idea a lot. What we need is a widget which takes a photo, does the ocr and enters the data into the entry. This could be quite a general widget and useful for many applications. Anyone?

Hi jlu,

I've noticed that if you move the db from the settings it is not updated in its osso-backup entry.
Consecutive backups will miss the db.

thanks

Hi Christos,

Which version of Fuelpad you have? Since the database open button has been removed since fremantle6.

ΟΚ. I have been playing for some time now with translating one more localisation and have blocked all updates. So basically the other day I voted for an older version

I'm happily now to 0.82-fremantle9 and its great. I have the impression you have improved a lot the statistics part. Maybe its also old news..

Thanks and sorry for the false alarm.

I have just implemented saving the sort order and column and it will be available in a future release. It is not yet included in 0.82-fremantle9, though.

This app doesnt seem to work properly

Yesterday I added a new record (the only record, just after install) and entered the Miles as 123000 because the car has done 123000 miles
Today I added a new record with 123500 miles and fuelpad calculated the trip to be -123000
I added another record for 123800 and again the trip was -123000
I added another record for 123900 and again the trip was -123000

I gave up

Please see my followup in https://garage.maemo.org/tracker/ind...=554&atid=2066. But maybe you don't want it, since you have already given up.

I'll continue the discussion in just one place which is the bug report. Suffice to say that I still don't even own an N900. I have made the N900 version for you, for free but without any promises. I can very well choose to use my free time on something else.

Re: Fuelpad for Fremantle

A new version 0.90 is available for testing in extras-devel repository both for Fremantle and Diablo.

Warning! You must take a backup of your fuelpad database (if you don't know the location, don't test the new version)! You must also record your data on paper or some other way.

The biggest change is that not full fills are now supported. This required quite much changes in many places where the database is handled and therefore there may still be bugs even though I have tested it quite much.

Other changes can be seen on the fuelpad package page.

Please report any issues either here or to garage bug tracker.

Good to hear that the update works :)

The installation/update and starting does not alter the database but adding, editing or removing records might do something weird, hence the warnings.

Hi jlu,

I'm a graduate student that is working on an AI for a car that learns the driving patterns of a driver. I've been trying to collect some data to test my algorithm on, but the time schedule I have is just too short so I'm trying to see if someone that uses this application could volunteer their data.

But I have a specific question: the data that I am interested in is only relevant if it gives me the time the driver drove, say 8:53 am, rather than just the day. From the screenshots it seems like Fuelpad doesn't do this, is that correct?

Fuelpad only gives you times when gas tank was filled, with how much, what was the odometer at that point etc.

It might be interesting to have a separate application for actually tracking driving habits. If it helped corporate users to file mileage reports then all the better.

I didn't quite catch your idea but as bergie already wrote, Fuelpad only collects information related to filling your tank or doing some kind of services. Requests have been made to add logging your driving but I haven't had the time to implement that. We've had too good spring weather here in Finland and I've spend most of my free time outdoors instead of coding :)
