Isn't this Nokia patent all about what are you talking?

ragnar works for Nokia, so I assume he knows what he's talking about.

@leeyam: quote!! I like your post!

@javispedro: simply...it's possible! (ok 95% not, 5% yes! do you like it?)
Why do you talk about royalties? do you know how much pay Nokia to Stantum? Do you know in Big Companies (Corporation) royalties maybe not expansive because smeared on millions of items and for years? Do you know for electronic minimum royalty is 0.5% (average 4.3%) (ref: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royalties) so this means about €2,5 min (€21,5 average) on €500 (european cost) for each N900? Do you know Stantum is a little company (http://www.stantum.com/en/about/history-highlights) and Nokia is number one in the world on mobile communication? Do you know what this means?
so...how leeyam says: what else are we supposed to do while we wait for the device? talk about it *without* superstition, faith and mysticism??
;)

WOWOWOW! I didn't know that. Produced by Nokia itself... So... now it's more possible...
Thank you Ignacius

this close to release? rumors said week 40 then 44 then 46... we are on week 45 now... and believe me there were serious changes to whole production lines in the past just before release, think thats not the case here, but the camera for example is just a plug-in-chip, recognize that you had 10000 wrong cam chips gets a delay of at least 2 weeks!
Having a manufacturer missing one line on a connector another 2 weeks... its just 10 business-days!
I guess replacing the display at this point is still possible but truly not expected. maybe they found non RoHS compliant parts because some freaking china-fab didn't bother...
sometimes even big companies screw up big time

there are that many reasons 'what?' could happen to delay shippings, I cant even describe all! (I work for an analytical research institute and have knowledge of some serious issues over the last 3 years... from ironing to chip-bonding with 'we have a problem in our manufacturing line please give us results till end of this week no matter what!')

What I know is that cuts in the hw design than would amount to 0,01€ per shipped device are not uncommon at all.

So, talk as you wish, but there's no Stantum screen.

Re: Stantum Display on N900

Does anyone know whether Stantum tech requires a specific type of screen or associated HW? ie would it be possible if a sufficiently accurate resistive touch panel was manufactured that just happened to meet stantum spec, if driver (or the equiv) updates to firmware / software could implement the tech later?

This is not something that I am going to suggest about the n900, but in the interests of learning more about the tech in general, I think it would be good if someone could clear this up!

My take (I am an interested consumer only - NO industry level knowledge) is that Stantum tech requires a touchpanel of certain quality/resolution, but doesn't need to be in any way fundamentally different from the standard touch tech. However I don't know if a specific HW level chip is needed or whether the interpretation of the input can be done at a firm/software level or not...

Hey, looking at the size and thickness of the N900 I think it's impossible that they make out all that space (LOOK AT THE THICKNESS) without a DVB tuner + mobile inside.

Someone needs to prove me wrong by showing the disassembled pictures of N900, otherwise I'm sure it's a hidden feature.

very interesting question ysss!!
Thinking about what you posted...I think it's possible that! Like you, I hope to see some pictures of N900 disassembled
