It seems like the only things that this user wanted out of his device was a) rendering speed for browsing b)favorable dimensions for his use case c)he wanted it now, now, now!
Looks like you won, I think I'm ok waiting a few more days for the N900 for one simple reason : Maemo 5 .

Nokia cannot meet people's desires in future devices if they do not know what these desires are.

yep your correct its the competitors forum he purchased a HD2 i purchased a N900 now we are competing, N900 wins by TKO
if he wants to come and wind people up by displaying is love for HD2 on a unrelated site then there's nothing wrong with a bit a banter being thrown back at him

No. It was because he couldn't wait the requisite 8 days for an acknowledged better and cheaper device.

It's Generation I Want It Yesterday ;)

Having said that, waiting hasn't been easy, especially I've been off all week with flu. A week of playing with the n900 would have been much more fun ;)

Again it speaks to someone who wanted it NOW NOW NOW. Rather than RIGHT RIGHT RIGHT.

On a personal note I find it hard to believe ANYONE who works and uses UNIX every day would EVER take a windows device when with a little patience (less than 2 weeks most likely) they could have a fully functional Linux device.

I guess he can try and get one of the released N900 units within his 14-28 day return period ;)

I don't regret it, at all, but I see why you would say that.
You're right though, why would I ever, in the opensource idea of things, say why I went for something else. Better to keep things to myself so no-one can advance.

And no,.. it's not a now-now user speaking, I would've just bought the n900 end of september and stuck with it because it's an investment. The HD2 came out before the n900 and while trying it out in the shop and from what I gathered online it is the right choice for me.
Also, I don't have a stick up my *rse, if something is superiour with regards to my needs , even if it isn't unix based, I'll take it. It's supposed to be a tool, an aid, to get by.

And you're right, you can throw stuff back at me, don't make it personal though. Maybe I was a bit uber-happy with it, but,.. you will all be gushing about you're new n900 here when it comes out. I did the same with the hd2.
I love the digital compass on this thing too :p

The smartphone market is so cut throat these days. Snooze you lose. Nokia still thinks we're in 2003 when they ruled the waves.

We have seen Droid and HD2 announced and then released since N900 was announced. There needs to be a management clearance at Nokia.

Who in the world signed off N97 for release ?

I wouldn't have made the decision that you did but I appreciate that it was not an irrational decision. I, for one, am interested in what people find positive in other phones or negative in the N900 and vice versa.

De gustibus non est disputandum.

That said, gushing is never cool.

Enjoy your new device.

I am still going to buy the N900. Having said this, Nokia should have kept the screen size of the N810 and also the keyboard but they did not. Instead they downgrade to 3.5 screen and a funny keyboard. They released N95 with a dedicated GPU then removed it in N96/97.

Don't know what's wrong with them up there at Nokia - maybe its too cold in Espoo, they need a Safari in Kenya or something. Are they just this dull ?.

My suggestion

Maemo 5/6
Body of 6700
Camera of N86
Keyboard of E90
3.8 - 4.3 inch capacitive + resistive screen (and pls don't tell me they cant create best of both)
Sound of 5800

and then tell someone about it - even HTC is advertising.on telly these days.

Easy !

Thank you for your opinion. I like the HTCs and looked into this one before. With an Android 2.0 the HTC would compete in a total different class, comparable to the N900, Iphone and Motorolla Droid, with Windows Mobile it is just a NO-GO IMHO.

(I never played with an Android 2.0, Maemo or WM 6.5 phone so far, only Iphone 3G. My opinion is highly based on what I have read and my personal problem with MS philosophy. I am personally convinced that Microsoft pays money to HTC to actually support their OS (in form of programmers, support, etc.), else it is just not understandable at all.)

Not much point in advertising on the TV until you have device for people to buy. Adverts will come, give them time. ;)

That o2 advert for the Pre is weird, why'd they pick such a strange looking girl ? She looks like she's sick with swine flu or something!

I suspect it's the same girl they use in the states. Definitely weird. But i assume that's the point. You remember her, you remember the ad.

About the browsing, have you tried arora? Should be a lot faster as it's webkit. As soon as i get my n900 i'll test it.

Re: So,... I bought the HD2

geesh,

I waited one month for the e71 to become available. If I would buy all my phones based on availability I would use a nokia 1100 because they're always on stock :D

I always tried to couple a phone needing replacement with a new release. That doesn't always work. But hey what's two months on a crappy samsung between the e61 and e71.

If the HD2 is what you need for the extra week of delays then so be it. You'll sell it on e-bay as soon as the n900 starts shipping and the wm on the hd2 starts shi||ing errors.

Have fun.

WOW I come here in the Competitors forum to see what else is about and OMG What aload of rude PIGS you lot are!

Just cause sum1 has another phone there happy with you all slag him off.

I thought this thread was about phones that can compete on some level with the N900. And used to find it interesting to find out others views on the high end smart phones coming to the market.

Nice one Dick Heads, you've just messed it up.

The other reason why I would have a hard time with the N900 is that it doesn't support North American 3G. In fact, that is the real deal breaker for me.

Actually it supports NA 3g just fine - it just doesnt support AT&T 3g. Which ,based on the continuing series of articles I see regarding the crappiness of it and the Tmobile roll out of 21MP HSDPA, is no great loss

Hm there are trolls and there are troll feeders. =\

Personally, I'm leaning towards HD2 at the moment for a future buy. Only reason I haven't bought it yet is because it's not yet available locally. So in the meantime, I'm keeping my options open. N900 seems interesting if not for the resistive touch. And I wish there were more Android 2.0 phones too.

Cheers! N900!!!

Until now the N900 can do nothing else than wait for being delivered. Nokia should learn.

Re: So,... I bought the HD2

The HTC HD2 only supports 65k colors, which is kinda lame for a nice huge 4,3" (or something like that) screen. The N900 supports 16 million colours. Only 65k colors is so 1990s. Movies, Pictures, Websurfing is much nicer at 16,000,000 colors, than only 65,000.

If winmo on the HD2 would be opensource & it would have tv-out, it would be a clear winner.

Re: So,... I bought the HD2

I currently have an HD2, my N900 should arrive in about 3 days, so I can post a comparison here.

RE: 65K colour limitation, in practice it just doesn't matter that much honestly. Mobile-review still rated this the best mobile screen ever - overall I agree (considering touch input, size, resolution, display technology). My i8910s AMOLED screen is just gorgeous, but the extra resolution and size on offer here really outweigh the AMOLEDs superior display characteristics.
