Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Have they figured out a screen protector or Case for this thing? Just wondering?

Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Well, that's the other catch for me. I can switch to T-mobile, I'm off contract at the moment. And T-mobile 3G is here (here being where I live and work) in all it's high speed glory (high speed being 5 Mb/s, no I'm not joking). But T-mobile does not have any where near the coverage as AT&T. And I'm not mentioning that in the "look at the map", theoretical exercise kind of way, I'm saying that if I go to visit my girlfriend, I would lose 3G. AT&T on the other hand, I can stream from Last.fm to my e51 pretty much everywhere I go on a regular basis.

Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
I just bought this case for the N900 I highly recommend it, fits good, not too snug,

It looks very similar to yours. |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Diavoli, can you try the Fido/Rogers SIM card with data plan on and let us know what speed is n900 connecting to the internet? 3G or Edge?
|
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
I can tell you. 2.5 G EDGE on the Rogers network (includes Fido)

Wow, that's twice as fast as what I thought I was getting.

Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
well, don't get all excited and start sticking flowers in your hair, qole (you had to be in Amsterdam).
that is with the charger plugged in, and under no additional load. The latency kills VoIP, not sure if HSPA offers decent latency. Also, I've seen some very low numbers as well. Not sure how reliable these speed tests are. But the N900 is barely usable on Rogers/Fido unless you are in clear sight of a cell tower. |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
What was the site that you are on that gave you this speed break down? Can you provide the link?

Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Yeah it's nothing to write home about, my buddies here are already on me saying why i would buy a phone without 3G from Rogers...HHAAH...I just told them because it's a better phone than the iphone, they all look at me like I'm crazy or something.
Hopefully windmobile.ca will come through, operations there are still going on strong as my friend who works there has told me. As for all the reboots people are experiencing, I haven't, even though my old N95 would just reboot when it felt like it. That's a nice case as well you got, I never liked belt hook ones, too clunky, I like having it in my pocket for added protection. |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
I find that the EDGE speeds are slow but they're good enough for the stuff I do on the bus, such as reading these forums, checking Twitter and Facebook, e-mail, IRC chatting, etc. I tried to listen to Internet radio but it wasn't a good experience.
FYI: I got about the same speed as EIPI on EDGE (121-132 kbps). On my campus WiFi, however, I got 4420 kbps :D |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Good stuff,
I have a question though, can someone help me, When I send an SMS I have the correct date and time showing, but when the person responds it's showing up 6 hours behind? So if i send an SMS, it will show up as 2pm but the reply will state that I received it at 9 am, which is really weird. Did I set up the regoinal settings up wrong? I'm not sure. |
Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
I found I had to set my region to USA and choose the nearest US city to mine (Seattle) in order to get the right time zone.

Re: Worth the 8 hour drive to NYC!
Yeah I think I'll try something like that, ahahah just goes to show you how much Maemo and Nokia were thinking about the Canadian Market...LOL NADA
They think it's just North American Market. Fair assumption I guess it's just we Canadians that always try to make the differentiation and the rest of the world just sits back and says "Huh there's a difference" HA |
