Actually Exchange support IS pretty crappy since it doesn't even work with my vanilla Exchange 2007 setup.

The first video I saw about the n900 was late august , the one with the two finnish maemo fellows (one had a imac) , and it was pretty impressive , way before adds.
I'm dying to see the next iphone adds : "with the new iphone 4G , you can now do two things at a time" rofl !!! |
Re: Disappointed with N900 - Reality Check!
I'm a huge Nokia fan, and the N900 is awesome, but some of you guys need to learn to take a little criticism without flipping your lids. RealityCheck makes some valid points, and shouldn't be attacked just for raising some questions on this board.

It's funny how I gave you all those links, proving you're wrong on the N900, yet you still can't face the fact that you're wrong. Instead you choose the one link that isn't fully explained in the video of 'how does it do it' so automatically you choose it as a basing point to strengthen your statement, even though you have already been proved overwhelmingly wrong by pretty much everyone counter-posting. You are almost completely wrong except for this:

I'm glad you haven't ordered an N900 yet. There's a lot of excited people waiting for theirs to come, and you would be wasting a perfectly good spot in the queue. ;) (posted from my awesome, fast, smooth-scrolling, totally multitasking N900) |

Re: Disappointed with N900 - Reality Check!
At the risk of sounding like a girl, it's not what Realitycheck said, but how he presented it. I think we'd have had a potentially fruitful conversation about the N900 potentially not living up to some of the expectations of potential customers, whether these expectations are warranted or not is another issue, if the issues had been presented a little differently.
The biggest issue that I see is the potential that the actual ads are promising more than the device can deliver. I haven't seen any but I'll make some attempts to find them on some site accessible from China and check them out. If this is the case then that could pose a big problem, both for Nokia and for the people at this forum who'll be forever dealing with new threads regarding the devices failure to meet expectations. If you notice a lot of iPhone/iPod commercials now don't even show any capabilities, they just have them twirling neatly across the screen looking nice. A feature that I must say tey do fulfill admirably. Generally though I think this issue does warrant some discussion as it could affect everyone at the forum. But next time you post take some advice from Carla (the character on scrubs) and "let your crazy out in small portions" otherwise you might get reactions that are far from the type of constructive responses that I assume you wanted (by this I don't mean to say that your ideas are crazy, I just like the quote). |

the onedotzero identity is a 2 part application. the n900 portion takes user input and displays a slick ui to the user there and when the user selects an area the interactions change and allow the user to shake and tilt the device etc. the user input and sensor data is transmitted over the wifi. the massive heavyweight computers which are connected to the projectors take this input and produce the 3d ribbons. theres a lot that the n900 could do itself (similar effects could easily be achieved at n900 resolution using the powervr, or just look at the fluid motion on liqflow but in this specific instance its not, the identity was rendered at some ungodly resolution and presented on a massive display using 6 HD projectors. Re: Disappointed with N900 - Reality Check!
I was fool enough to buy an iPhone 3GS (or a ShitePhone as I called it once I used it),,,,it was so inept, I can't explain it...it had so many very very basic features missing that Nokia had been implementing for many many years in even their basic models!
Further, about the multitasking - ShitePhone nor Apple or its users have any clue of what it is!!! I read somewhere that said people with a ShitePHone have a very low IQ (numpties!), I now understand that they are very true....I'm glad I got rid of mine as a numpty bought it off me.. i didn't even lose any money on it as the numpty paid me a good price!! Bring on the N900 - kick some *** and chew bubblegum!!! |
Re: Disappointed with N900 - Reality Check!
I just want to clarify: there are some things about the N900 that I'm disappointed with. I'd even go as far as to say that I'm quite disappointed with them.
However, the overall experience of the N900 is one of awesomeness, so you probably won't see real owners posting "Disappointed" threads very often. It might happen. But it will be from people who bought the N900 expecting something completely different, or people who have a very narrow idea of what they want to do with their mobile device, or people who want/need specific non-supported features. If you have read the articles and seen lots of the videos and you really want to get the N900, then don't worry, you'll be happy with the N900. But I know. If you don't have it yet, the waiting just makes you kind of crazy. |

Multitasking is what we expect high speed CPUs to do. (switch back and forth very rapidly between running processes) Multiprocessing is what you get when you have multiple cores. Even the iPhone multitasks, although that capability isn't exposed to the user outside of a few apps that keep at least part of themselves alive (exchange, the phone, the music player) even when they are in the background. |

Re: Disappointed with N900 - Reality Check!
Guys, there's no need to get all defensive.
The OP, by his own admission, has had very limited contact with a real device. His opinion is largely based on suppositions. Read that, and simply move on. There are threads around here containing real comments - good and bad - from people who have now been playing with production models for a few days. Those are the opinions to consider. We need to get past 'n900 is God' to 'n900 is a damned good phone but it has weaknesses'. Like the day you realised that hot date you fell in love with snores and leaves the lid off the toothpaste. There's no need to make a huge noise at this poster. He has simply made the mistake of posting a rather uninformed opinion on a bulletin board. Is that such a rare thing? ;) |

I just hope, that it isn't true. It is scary how people give back their copies of the device after 14 days, when everyone wants one. I refuse to believe that. Prices on ebay go up to $1000, why would they give back their devices? I'm hoping that he is just one of the apple fan boys & everythings alright. If you have a retail copy, please tell me there are no such things like "non-scrollable applications in the menu after installing something". :( |
Re: Disappointed with N900 - Reality Check!
How can it be that you are disappointed about a device that was presented as preproduction model? And how can you be disappointed about the DEVICE when the SHIPPING delayes? Nokia delayed because of incomplete not perfect software, and since 10th november they're ready to go.
Post again if you tried one with final software... |

If you want to output HD from a semi-mobile device, there's still the Nokia Booklet 3G with HDMI output. edit: here ya go: SDTV: 480i (NTSC uses an analog system of 486i split into two interlaced fields of 243 lines) SDTV: 576i (PAL, 720×576 split into two interlaced fields of 288 lines) source: wikipedia |
Re: Disappointed with N900 - Reality Check!
All I can say is that N900 exceeded my expectations when I got it. Unlike the original poster who doesn't even have the phone.
It is so good I even dumped my iPod touch to a bottom drawer that I originally had no intention of obsoleting, but I did. After a day. The browser is divine. Performance flawless. YouTube, just like on desktop. Perfect. My impressions can be found starting here: http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?t=34678&page=21 And unlike the crippled Apple offerings, this one actually multitasks. And does it well. |

I've been reading http://www.howardforums.com/showthre...3&page=3&pp=15 and it worry's me some. I just hope he got a bad device and the same thing isn't happening like it did with the E90 when it first came out ( buggy as **** and not nearly completed OS or even hardware for that matter )

Re: Disappointed with N900 - Reality Check!
I've had my N900 since Friday evening and I can honestly say that this guy is full of crap. He sounds like a loudmouth high school kid looking for attention. He doesn't even own the device and complains about it? Buggy software? WTH!?! Can't feel the haptic feedback!?! I get so angry about this. This person has no idea what they are talking about!!!! With every point he tries to make he is making more of a fool of himself.

Re: Disappointed with N900 - Reality Check!
No freezes and scrolling works just fine.
Of course who knows what the long-term experience is, I couldn't possibly say after two days, but so far very impressed with how the menus and main applications work and interact. I do acknowledge, like everyone here I'm sure who understand the phones position as a sort of early adopter/tech-head/developer "preview model" (albeit a production one), N900 needs more work on the software (missing features like MMS, rSAP, old Maps, vertical mode support etc.), but overall it is very promising. The browser and user-interface are very nice. |
Re: Disappointed with N900 - Reality Check!
Reality Check you need a reality check. Am I really supposed to take your opinion ( "I have held one! In my hands and everything!" ) over that of people who actually have owned or thoroughly tested the device.
Youre either bored, a paid-troller or just jealous. And you've exposed yourself as irrelevant and stupid. Shush now. |
