Now at some point I could use help with the reg codes.

Other issues/questions:This may seem like I am complaining, but really just looking to see if anyone else has overcome any of these issues.

Has anyone been able to do anything with the portrait/landscape issue and allowing for fullscreen? In Ereader for example, I cannot get a combination of Landscape in fullscreen. I chose the TX setting for device hoping that it would allow for fullscreen. Not to mention the resolution is extremely poor. I realize the two devices are very different in their resolution so I guess I shouldn't expect much. Has anyone tried the fontsmoothing app to remedy this?

That's enough for now, will have more later!

For 1:1 ratio, landscape mode will look the best.

Portrait mode zooms 1.5 of the original screen so that will look a little funny.

Those are your two choices, choosing what palm device should not effect graphics in any way.

For reg codes, you can start by grabbing your old Palm handheld, start up one of your paid apps, then within the program click on info, help, about.... whatever one will give you the device number. You'll need that eventually.

Cheers!

Re: [Palm OS] Garnet VM Beta 5 Released for OS2008 and older tablets!

Addison: SWEET thanks...

FYI, I haven't gone through the configuration to read a DB from the SD card. Is that still needed with this release?

As far as device ID goes, I have 2 devices; Sony Clie and Palm Centro. Should I avoid the Clie info as it is not a true Palm device or does that matter?

thanks and Happy Thanksgiving!

Re: [Palm OS] Garnet VM Beta 5 Released for OS2008 and older tablets!

Yeah, you need to set up at least one SD card slot using the thread that Pushwall suggested.

For now, just find the device number on your Centro for those paid apps you mentioned previously.

It also couldn't hurt to try and get familiar with trying to hotsync.

Sorry for the shortness but I'm visiting with the family today and I'm also nauseous over all the farting that's been going on here. :)

Hi guys,
is there anybody with a N900 who could try if the n810-Version works with the mentioned gadget?
Anyway I´m wondering what ACCESS is going to offer 2010.

Yes Edge runs on this version and previous ones too. The only problem seems to be sound. For the most part sound doesn't work,...but sometimes it does,....very flaky to be sure!

You're right it doesn't seem to do a fullscreen landscape mode. I display it in portrait mode with large font and font smoothing. It works for me, but then again my eyes aren't what they used to be so I don't notice that the resolution isn't super sharp.

Do I need a "Device Number" or a "User ID"?

I found a User ID that I assigned the device.

Whatever you're looking at is going to be a little different than the following screen shot, but it should be somewhat similar to this:

The number you're looking for is right after your account name, which in my case is "James".

Well I forgot that the registered apps are on the Sony Clie not the Centro so here are a couple numbers I found on the device.

MEID: A100000434610F

pESN: 80C1A628

Secondly, I have no plans to hotsync the n810. I haven't done this with any of my devices for at least a couple years...just don't have a need.

Finally, is there a trick to getting the Palm App to access the NIT's wifi connection? I noticed people are using Pocket Tunes or Mundo for example.

and...is the GVM running the Palm OS 5? Isn't that what the "Garnet" is from? Just wanted to verify...thx

Garnet VM is the same as Palm OS 5.

I haven't hotsynced in 6 months. The only reason to do this is if an application has an installation process to it or you're like bunanson who keeps all of his contacts and schedules through GVM.

I never needed Wifi in GVM, best to ask Bun on this.

You're going to need to launch GVM through Xterm for the time being.

Once you know what you're doing, you can create a desktop icon to do this for you but I'll get to that a little later.

Read up on this thread while paying close attention to the "-n" option:

Post back if you're having any troubles.

I haven't hotsynched my actual Palm device in years, and I haven't tried to hotsync my N800 either. Apparently there are/were some problems with it anyway. I install .prc and .pdb files directly.

GVM can transparently use the NIT networking. Just start networking back in Maemo, then any networking GVM application should work out of the box. I've tried with e.g. the Google Maps application, weather applications, applications that automatically download new versions. They all work.

Garnet is more or less PalmOS 5. But GVM seems to be limited to run m68k applications only, for now at least. Unless they changed that in the last version and didn't document it.

No! Running ARM apps has been a feature of GVM/GHost since day one. That's why it was called Garnet VM -- because it allows one to run PalmOS 5 apps with nearly no performance penalty under Palm-on-Linux (now called ALP).

I haven't been able to run a single PalmOS application which includes armlets, since the first GVM. Could you point me to some working application that I could test?

it does work on the n900. video-proof on my blog, soon (in a few hours, its uploading in 720p)

you'd be surprised at the number of applications that use PNOs. DocsToGo, PocketTunes, most Astraware games, and my own apps (PalmGL for example, which you can find here.

Note that most of PalmOS 5 is ARM, thus not being able to run native code would really limit its usefulness.

Re: [Palm OS] Garnet VM Beta 5 Released for OS2008 and older tablets!

Thanks, that was great stuff. I can see though that the missing 'full screen' button (which on the N8x0 is used to quickly switch between the different view modes) may be a bit missed on the N900. On the other hand it seems to naturally like to use the portrait mode, so maybe that won't matter that much.

Re: [Palm OS] Garnet VM Beta 5 Released for OS2008 and older tablets!

Hey guys.

I wanted to quickly mention that I'm currently putting together one last touch screen keyboard layout to be used with Garnet.

There's a way now to get Xkbd finally working correctly but I'm still not sure if it's a permanent solution as of yet.

All that's left is to finish up with the third, modified layer of the keyboard. I probably can post it in a couple of days.

It's surprisingly very finger friendly. :)

If anyone has a suggestion or two on the layout, try to leave a comment before it's done.

Cheers!

Re: [Palm OS] Garnet VM Beta 5 Released for OS2008 and older tablets!

Well this blows.

I think I've just encountered the too good to be true fix with Xkbd.

Hey Nick, simple favor request.

If you have Xkbd working, can you test and see if the ' and " keys work in Xterm, Notes, or whatever?

I'm not getting any output from them now.

I was so relieved to no longer be constantly dickering around with the whole Caps Lock method work around from before.

It looks as though we're probably back to square one on this. :(

D'oh! You're right, some keys are misplaced, some others don't produce any output and trying to get = starts an endless line of random keys :(

Well that's just crap! *lol*

Are all of the letters in the alphabet working though?

I'm only asking since the = key works just fine on my end.

JustNick 2009-12-06 09:55

Re: [Palm OS] Garnet VM Beta 5 Released for OS2008 and older tablets!

Yes, all of the letters work fine... can't give any explanation for the rest of the keys :(

Re: [Palm OS] Garnet VM Beta 5 Released for OS2008 and older tablets!

Well, a couple of days lasted a little longer than what I was expecting but the keyboard that can be used with Garnet VM is available and working like awesome if you have a N800. :)

You can grab it here:
Xkbd keyboards

Post some feedback if you would on this.

Re: [Palm OS] Garnet VM Beta 5 Released for OS2008 and older tablets!

Has anyone ever tried this site?
http://www.goosync.com/

Just curious if this could be a simple solution to syncing contacts, calendar events, etc. without the constant nonsense of syncing with MS Outlook on the computer.

If not, is there perhaps an alternative Palm OS application or web site one could use?

Can some smart person explain WHY Audible books worked FINE with the Garnet Palm emulator on the N800 and N810 and DOESN'T work with the N900?

It's funny that everybody says they will stand behind you when the going gets rough, but when you run into a problem, there's nobody even there to bluff.

because the GarnetVM supports only the N800 and N810 and NOT the N900.

There seems to be a memory or storage access bug when running on the N900. Hopefully a N900 specific version will be released without waiting until the current N8x0 version expires.

Seems so. In fact it seems to crash when certain native (arm) PalmOS functions are invoked.

Re: [Palm OS] Garnet VM Beta 5 Released for OS2008 and older tablets!

To me, the N900 is starting to seem like a glorified N810 with a phone, so I'm surprised there are critical differences, good to know. Thanks for the answers. (Not that I think that a glorified ((and much faster)) N810 is a bad thing.)
