Re: Nokia Map Loader
OK, I did something else, I saw a .qf file in the n900 phone's flash memory. I made a copy of that, and renamed it to qf (without the dot in front, unhides the file) then I made a same copy of qf and put it into the sd card as well.
So there are 2 identical files named "qf", one on sd card and one in phone memory. The 2 qf files seem to apppear as 1 file in PC Suite mode, and the n900 is detected in PC Suite mode. I haven't tried uploading any maps yet. Still playing around. P.S. I'm using Win 7 64-bit, nokia map loader version is 3.0.28.0. |
Re: Nokia Map Loader
Just download "Xp Mode" on Windows 7. Map Loader works perfect.

Re: Nokia Map Loader
Something very strange must be happening because it does not work for me at all. And I have the latest map loader running on a Win 32-bit machine with SP3.
Can someone shed a bit of light here? Or provide me a link with detailed instructions on how to download maps without the map loader? |

Getting Nokia Map Loader to work in Win 7 64-bit
I confirm my method works:
HOW TO MAKE NOKIA MAP LOADER WORK IN WIN 7 64-BIT ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1) Find the .qf file in the root dir of the n900 phone's flash memory 2) Make a copy of the .qf file, and rename it to "qf" (without the dot in front, unhides the file) in the root dir of the n900 phone's flash memory 3) Make another same copy of the file named "qf" and put it into the root dir of the sd card as well 4) Use the n900 in PC Suite Mode with Nokia Map Loader Notes: So there are 2 identical files named "qf", one on sd card and one in phone memory. The 2 qf files seem to appear as 1 file in PC Suite mode, and the n900 is detected in PC Suite mode. Nokia Map Loader seems to report the capacity of the sd card, but the maps are actually loaded to the phone's flash memory. I'm not sure what happens when you exceed that limit or try something funny. I'm interested in any comments whether this method works with Windows Vista 32/64-bit and Windows 7 32-bit. P.S. I'm using Win 7 64-bit, Nokia Map Loader version 3.0.28.0. P.P.S. Virtual PC eats resources and is a hassle, that is why I try to avoid XP Mode. |
Re: Nokia Map Loader
Sorry guys i've not replied, but you have it figured anyway. I remeber from my research and troubles with my N95 8GB that the qf file needs to be present, as this is what file is created when Nokia maps starts up for the first time on symbian, so I thought I'd just copy it from my N95 and fool the Map loader!
Remeber to click delete maps from storage, it's a good idea to clean your device of any maps. |

Re: Nokia Map Loader
Hello
I wonder if it's possible to download the maps to the internal memory of N900, cus I haven't got a memory card... |
Re: Nokia Map Loader
Hi jumbark, check out Jaffa's instructions linked on the first page of this thread. The instructions show you the directory, MyDocs, on the internal storage of the N900 to put the files.

Re: Nokia Map Loader
I have some problems with the map loader and I use windows xp PRO SP3.Actually,when I first used the program everything was just fine(you know i downloaded the maps and the voices which i wanted and everything was ok).Unfortunately,I had to restore my system due to a problem which I was facing, but the date which i had chosen to restore it it wasn't before the date that the map loader was working fine. Moreover,I had to flash the emmc on my nokia n900 and install again the maemo 5(in the updated version). The problem that I am facing right now is that the map loader keeps saying:''Waiting for phone'',even if it's says to me in the beggining that I have connected at least one phone(nokia n900) without a valid Maps drive and either I was using an old Maps version - then I must update my Maps application or reconnect my phone in mass storage mode - or I have never started my Maps application - then I have to start the Maps application once and restart Map loader. Now,the weird thing is that I have started at least once the Map application on n900 and the n900 is always on mass storage mode when I load the Map loader. That's all from me:D:D.Please somebody tell me what is going on because I swear to God........I am going to break my device and my pc both at the same time:mad::mad::mad:.
P.S(1).;I have seen the manual way to put the maps on my n900 but,I can not find the MyDocs folder and the folder ''Cities''.If the MyDocs folder is the one that is showed up when you choose to explore the device(in the mass storage mode)then I can not find only the ''Cities'' folder. P.S(2).:Sorry for the HUGE TEXT and sorry for this noobish question:D:D:D:D:D |
Re: Nokia Map Loader
The cities folder should be created when you run Maps on the N900 (and yes, the MyDocs folder is the one that gets mapped as a drive in mass storage mode). If it's not, then this'll be why the Map Loader doesn't work. Did you run Ovi Maps without the phone connected to the PC (as it can't access MyDocs when it's in mass storage mode)?
|
Re: Nokia Map Loader
Yes,I ran the Ovi maps without the phone connected to the pc and I ran it also when the phone was connected to the pc.I don't know why,but the problem sounds to me like a data loss. So,I suppose I have to flash again my device?:(:(
P.S.:Does the gps on n900 work offline?I would like to go somewhere with my car and I don't know where is it.Also,I don't have an Internet connection on my n900.So,is there any way to use the Ovi maps while I drive |

As for the GPS working offline, that's a bit of an issue at the moment. Theoretically the GPS will work entirely offline (if you disable the network assistance), but at the moment Ovi Maps times out looking for a GPS signal too quickly (and stops immediately when the screen goes into standby). This has been fixed (increasing the timeout to 10 minutes, and keeping searching even if the display is off) but we'll have to wait for the next firmware release for this. There is a location-test package you can install (not sure where though - I've not bothered looking) which you can use to get a lock before starting Ovi Maps. |
Re: Nokia Map Loader
I ran a disk check from windows, but it does't find any problems. Can you please upload a screenshot of the MyDocs folder just to make sure that I am looking to the right place(if you don't mind).

Re: Nokia Map Loader
I fail to understand why the only way to update maps app, and download maps even on S60 is via this application.
Why pre-req the PC. All of these devices are totally capable of having a little app to download pre-selected maps. By all means offer a PC version too, but not depend on it. N900 especially is a full computer in it's own right. there shouldnt be any pc dependence. |

I got this messeage :

Had the same problem. Turns out when you connect N900 to computer in Mass Storage it connects both SD card and Phone. Disconnect the SD card and then run Map Loader. It'll only read the N900, where your DiskCache for Ovi Maps is. Then it's straight forward to download maps straight to phone. |
Re: Nokia Map Loader
renaming .qf to qf made Map Loader work for me too, Vista.
|
Re: Nokia Map Loader
Please, could someone explain to me which is the difference between the maps preinstalled and the ones in the Nokia with the Nokia Map Loader?
Would it be possible, please, have a pass to pass guide with Windows Vista? I guess the root directort is /, but which is the root directory of the SD card? |

Re: Nokia Map Loader
hello guys...
i got my phone back from a guarantee repair and when trying to re-upload the maps, the download is always interrupted with a message "Connection to the storage medium has been interrupted. Attach your storage medium and retry." Since Google is my friend, i tried there but the only answer i found was on nokia forums for symbian where the explanation was a conflict between some ATI graphics card software and the Map Loader. The key issue here is that i don't have ATI graphics but Intel GMA 500 (poulsbo) in an ASUS 1101HA ... thus, i've got no idea on what the conflict may be... Using Windows 7 Home Premium and Map Uploader v.3.0.28.0... Any ideas on how to solve this issue? Thx in advance... |

Re: Nokia Map Loader
ok... got it to work... the problem was that my microSD card was set to "read-only" for one reason or another... now it's working well both with the old loader and new ovi...
