1. Download this file: http://pastebin.com/pastebin.php?dl=f49509cfd

2. Open it with a text editor

3. Put your API key and secret there.

4. Import the new file from Vagalume

5. Go to the Preferences dialog and select 'Last.fm'

Thanks Alberto!
Finally I got it all to work! It took a bit of digging but now my n900 is delivering candy to my ears.

I had to download from extras-devel which was not clear from the start. Once I had that enabled I was way on my way.

My 810's still not working with 0.8.1 - is there any troubleshooting info we can post?

Concerning the "Network Connection Error", I only get that if I am connected to my work WiFi. My company blocks our access to Last.FM.

That is what I thought at first for me also but then I tried and last.fm works on my company wifi, but i get the error on Work Wifi, Home Wifi, and Edge.

Same here, but as others note, I can roll back to the 0.7.1 version and everything works flawlessly. Accessing from my home wireless network.

Re: vagalume error message

Same for me ;7 works fine 8.1 gives "network connection error". Running from X term gives:

Code:

~ $ vagalume

Another question - anyway to change the screen so it's a black background with white text like in the screenshot? I'm guessing that's from a N900.

I tried 0.82 today and I still get the network connection error message. Is anyone else still getting this error ? I'm using a N810 with wifi at home.

Whenever I switch back to v 0.71, it works flawlessly

update: version 0.82 not working with my n900 either

I was having issues earlier which I managed to resolve through taking a peep at the traffic going to/from my phone using a laptop w/ Wireshark and a Monitor-mode-friendly wifi card (iwl3945). Turned out I was using a bad keypair (I'd screwed things up in editing it a few times, unscrewed things by grabbing the pertinent part of the example file listed here)

Do you have such a setup at your disposal? If not, you may be able to get the same results using the deb-chroot+installing wireshark. If you're unfamiliar with the above, I (and others I'm sure) can gently guide you in the right direction.

It would be good if the app defaults to “my library” and therefore starts playing music as soon as the play key is selected. Presently when I press the play key I get a “no more content to play” message.

It defaults to playing the last selected station, so if you e.g. are listening to your neighbourhood, close Vagalume and open it again, pressing 'play' will play that same station.

I think that's a good feature, and it's working fine for me here.

Yes, that is a good feature. But it does not work that way for me.

Does it never work for you? Are you a Last.fm subscriber? What country are you using it from?

It never works like it should for me. I have an active Last.fm subscription and I live in California, USA. Maybe a year ago it worked as it does for others, but it changed with a software update.
I don't save older versions but I could install an older version if you provided a link.

I guess Last.fm acts differently depending on where you connect from ... I guess I can try to keep the current behavior but play "my library" as a fallback if everything else fails.

FWIW, I can confirm the same behavior as Den. I'm in northern california, silicon valley. I think this changed after the whole 0.8.1 issue where it wouldn't connect at all...I'll be happy to confirm the change as well. And Thank You!

Are you a Last.fm subscriber? I think you shouldn't have had any problems with 0.8 if you were a subscriber.

The thing goes more or less like this:
  • There are two radio APIs in Last.fm: the old one (unsupported by Last.fm and subject to disappear at any time) and the new one.
  • Starting from v0.8, Vagalume uses the new one. If you're not a subscriber, it won't work. However, it appears that in some countries (including the USA) the old API does work even if you don't pay a subscription.
  • Vagalume 0.8.1 falls back to the old API in case the new one doesn't work, for non-subscribers in those lucky countries.

About the default radio station problem:
  • In both APIs, Last.fm provides two separate methods to choose a radio station and to obtain a playlist.
  • If you only press play, Vagalume will just request a new playlist. It will not choose any station for you.
  • That makes Last.fm send a playlist of the last chosen station.
  • The problem is that it doesn't seem to work for everyone. I don't know if it depends on the country, the API or what. But I remember having always used that feature, even with the old API.
  • So the solution would be to select a default station in that case.

Can that default be "My Library" and will you give us an update to test?

That's the idea.

This deserves a bug report, btw. Can you please file it? :) (I can do it later, it's just that I don't have time right now).

After flashing my N800, when I try to reinstall, it says I am missing libhildondesktop0, libhildonfm2 and libhildonwm0. Where can I find these files for down loading?

Edited: Sorry, I reflashed an old OS 2008. Disregard this post.

Re: vagalume error message

I would love to have Vagalume to support key shortcuts for loving, next track and so on.

Also, a good adition would be an integration with eSpeak to tell the name of the song and band that is playin' (or will start to play).

What do you guys thinks?

EDIT: the shortcuts apply to n810 and n900, like pressing the > key to go to next track, L to love track and so on...

There's Ctrl+L to love, Ctrl+B to ban, etc., take a look at the menus

It doesn't work here (n900).
BTW, my idea is to provide access to the functions without needing to look at the phone, so its great to use when it's dark, or at car.
For the same reason I told about the eSpeak extension!

I've just uploaded a package compiled for chinook:

It should work in diablo as well. Tell me if it's ok and I'll prepare a new release with this patch.

Thanks!

Ah, you're right! With the introduction of the Maemo 5 menus we lost the keyboard shortcuts. Can you please file a bug about that?

I'll try to make a new official release soon, you should see the update icon in your device automatically when it's ready.

Alberto Garcia, I saw at bugzilla that you corrected the shortcuts for n900, did you put my suggestions as shortcuts too?

It was:
Skip song: right arrow
Stop: left arrow
Love track: up arrow (like thumbs up ;))
Ban track: down arrow (like thumbs down ;))

Looking for the release ;)
