Re: Carman for Maemo 5?

I've got a different adapter (www.canusb.com) reading CAN bus in my vehicle. I've got some diagnostic apps written in Qt, but I'm waiting for MeeGo so that I can run it on an Atom based board. There is a ton of info flying over the CAN bus, thousands of messages per second. I've found accelerometer data, steering wheel position, pedal positions. A bluetooth CAN reader would be a great device for the N900.

It should be possible to use Carman with the N900 and a Bluetooth OBD-II reader. Someone knows if the Carman source is somewhere available?

So where is the problem to get it running on a N900 if it was working fine on a 8XX device?

I was able to run Carman on N900 today. I had to make some changes to the source code to get it work. I didn't get control applet working yet, though. I'm still working on it. I can't test ODB, because I don't have ODB reader yet. I ordered it today. Hope it comes soon.

This is excellent news. Im willing to offer any support and or funds (reasonable) that you might need to develop this app. Even though I can code, I dont have the time to do it. If you need hardware help or something similar just get in touch with me.

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?

i suppose waiting is wasting of time.
i will order a N800 and do the job.
carman developers did not answer for 4 months so i think it's not possible to run on N900

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?

I will order it from another shop. I believe I will get it working quite soon after I get the OBD reader.

p900:
I have run it on N900 but I can't test it in practise because I don't have the ODB reader yet.

You could make the changes public or better become the new maintainer of the code and others will for sure help you with ideas, code and testing.

Just an idea.

That's a good idea. Maybe I could ask if I could make the changes to public code repository.

Thank you for your willingnes to help! I wan't to be sure the application really works in practice before I let you guys test it. I'll keep you updated!

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?

Hi guys

Last week I got the OBD-II reader from DealExtreme and I was able to test bluetooth connection in practise.
I noticed that the D-Bus API of the Bluez had changed compared to the N800/N810. That's why I had to make some changes to the code. Finally I got the bluetooth connection working but it doesn't work properly yet. Anyway I could test Carman in practise but it isn't very easy to get it working. Is there any bluetooth expert here? I will try to solve the bluetooth problem and other problems.

Here is a video from Carman in N900

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?

Great job...:D:eek::D I'm impressed..I can not wait when I could connect my car

can be a problem with a sample rate .. I see that the processor in the N900 can not handle the refresh, and perhaps this is already a problem with bluetooth

Looks like a lot of Lag in the data stream somewhere. Can you get Oxygen sensor info short term and long term fuel injector trims, etc?

Could you tell us which adapter you are using from DealExtreme? Just to be sure that I buy the correct one.

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?

Nice, but where do we get the app?

Download option from the http://openbossa.indt.org/carman/install.html does not seem to work...

edit:
ok, i got it now, strange thing it hasn't been ported to the N900 yet by it's own developers...

keep up the good work!
why don't you upload it to extras-devel (since the source code is now available to everyone)?
the more people get it tested the better, and all the bugs will be discovered...just a thought

+1 I would be keen to test it on a variety of vehicles. will it support OBD I ?

I'd like to test it as well. I'm using software with N810, but would like to test (and use) it with my N900.

Does this connect to car Bluetooth or what

stantheboss 2010-06-07 10:15

Re: Carman for Maemo 5?

It connects to a OBDII bluetooth interface (you have to get one) connected to your car.
