Because it doesn't go up by default after a reboot - however it seems that QTirreco is starting it up for it's own needs in this case.

I can however get it up manually doing a "sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart", but am not sure if this is a) available on default device and b) the proper way to do it.

Well yes, QtIrreco starts and stops lirc. And you can start it manually with that sudo /etc/init.d/lirc restart. Why do u want to have it running on background when QtIrreco isn't active?

Is SUDO by default available on the device? Wasn't sure about that.

So you do " sudo /etc/init.d/lirc start" and " sudo /etc/init.d/lirc stop" on launch/quit of the application?

(It's a daemon, so it shouldn't use up that many resources when not running, or not?)

Question after question :D Thanks!

I think that sudo is by default on any unix based operating system. When installing QtIrreco it sets some lirc command priviledges, so that QtIrreco can use lirc without having to set root password. Little time ago with Irreco, lirc was set running with device boot and people said that battery run low very fast, so we thought that it's better to have lirc started when QtIrreco starts and stopped when you close QtIrreco.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the major difference between irreco and qtirreco? I want to use it on a N900

As posted by nirpe 6 posts ago:
"I think that nobody is anymore developing Irreco. QtIrreco is Qt version of Irreco."

IMHO, Irreco is the past and QTirreco the future :)

Re: QtIrreco for N900

just been playing with this was working perfectly with my topfeild 5800 PVR using the topfield pvr 5000 from the database

so i was trying to get my sony tv to work i decided to try a random sony remote kdl-40L4000, installed fine but didnt work with my tv, so i selected the remote and selected delete remote.

then i selected another topfield remote i had been playing with to delete that as i had two for the same device. however this didnt delete properly the buttons dissapeared, the background went black but it was still listed, most of the things i try to do now result in this application has crashed messages. if i click no the task will eventually complete and i can use the remote but there is a gap of 3 - 4 mins before any of the menu commands work

any idea what this could be / a way to solve it? ive tried rebooting the phone to no affect loads up in the same state

thanks

It seems that something went awfully wrong there. I think that the only solution for now is that u delete your remote files manually in terminal, or just the one which isnt working. Little instructions:

Type in terminal:

1. sudo gainroot (rootsh needs to be installed)
2. cd /home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Remotes
3. rm <remote file name>
4. vi remotes.conf
5. press a for example in vi editor, select the line which contains that remote name and press d to delete that line, then set current remote in line one existing remote. Press ESC and type :wq to save changes.

Please ask if u need more help there. Hope u get it working again,.

hi nirpe, in order to do the 1.1 update yesterday i uninstalled this app, not that i needed too but people were saying to remove apps from devel to make sure there were no issues with the update. i will reinstall it agian in a few days. it might be that the uninstall will cure the issue, if not i will run through the steps above.

thanks

I don't know what's going on...after i updated the latest firmware...this damm Qtrecco is not working again. It used to work all the time. I don't know what do do. I don't know how to tell if my IR is working or not. I don't know if lirc is running or not....all i know is that it used to work before.

I been doing a lot of uninstall and intall and nothing work.

Re: QtIrreco for N900

Irreco didn't seem to want to work properly, so I switched to qtirreco and I've just got this working nicely this evening - had to record my own signals too since my tv and dvd player weren't in the remote database.

Had a few problems at first where the signals weren't being sent at all - I was able to check because the IR receiver I have flashes a light whilst it's receiving, but I could've done the view-through-a-digital-camera solution to see if it was transmitting otherwise.
Also, the files in the remote config files needed to be included in /etc/lircd.conf file and because I was transferring them in manually they weren't automatically being added.

Re: QtIrreco for N900

@Romanianusa - Do you get any error messages when starting lirc or qtirreco from the terminal?
If you look through a digital camera and send an IR signal into the lens from the n900 is it definitely sending a signal? (You should be able to see if through the digital viewfinder)

Re: QtIrreco for N900

I don't get error message when i start qtirreco. I don't know if lirc is starting..how do u tell? Also how do you send IR signal into lens from n900?? I don't get it.

Re: QtIrreco for N900

Here's the output I get in the terminal.
Code:

~ $ sudo /etc/init.d/lirc start
Starting lirc daemon: lircd.
~ $ sudo /etc/init.d/lirc stop
Stopping lirc daemon: irexec lircmd lircd.
~ $

To see if the ir is transmitting grab a digital camera.
Code:

    ____
    |___|  <--- camera; lens pointing toward n900
      ^
      |
      |
      ^
      |
__|__    ir transmitter pointing toward camera
    |___|  <--- n900

And when you press buttons in qtirreco to send an ir signal you should see a flashing light in the digital camera lcd viewfinder.

I've just tested with the n800 web-cam and this works too - you should be able to get the same result from any other form of digital camera device.
Probably even a mobile phone camera if you have an old one, or you know anyone that has a mobile.

I tested withe a phone and i don't see IR signal. So what do i do now?

You says "Also, the files in the remote config files needed to be included in /etc/lircd.conf file and because I was transferring them in manually they weren't automatically being added."

Maybe i have to move my files in REMOTES to /etc/lircd.conf? Is that what you mean? If so, how?

Re: QtIrreco for N900

It would be nice to record Remote signals on the N900.... none of the commands work for me. LircDB was missing one config file but I manually imported it and that didn't work either.

Seems pretty neat anyways. If this could work with my cable box it would be amazing... :)

Re: QtIrreco for N900

Yes, record signals would be really nice!

I have irreco and I can turn my tv ON and OFF.

if I try with Vol+ the N900 go off :-)

then go back on, back off again and back on...after that is fine :-)

You may as well keep your remotes where they are in the /home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Devices/ folder.
You just need to make sure you add the same of the remotes to the /etc/lircd.conf file.
E.g. open up /etc/lircd.conf with a text editor and add the path to the file in there.

My file says:
Quote:

include "/home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Devices/CME"
include "/home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Devices/vistron.conf"
include "/home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Devices/sumvision.conf"
I manually added the last two lines.

I wrote a quick post on using a text editor here, if you're not sure about that.

hmm, my stuff works fine with a single remote in lircd.conf.. as soon as i add an include line, nothing works.. app loads, just no IR signal anymore :(

When you start the lirc service manually do you get any errors?
lirc will complain if the lircd.conf file isn't properly formatted or if it can't find the files you've said to include - this will give you a hint as to what's gone wrong.
qtirreco itself doesn't tell you if anything has gone wrong whilst it's starting lirc.

I don't have a lircd.conf file...i have lircpaths.conf that reside in the folder qtirreco, not Devices. In the Devices folder, i have BN59-00609A, Bn59-00634A, Bn59-00683A, BN59-00937A. And in the REMOTES folder i have BN59-00683Aa.conf and remotes.conf.

When i open up lircpaths.conf with notepad, it shows BN59-00683A s/samsung/BN59-00683A

I am looking through file manager and i see a qtirreco folder there...that's where all the files are located.

You won't see /etc or lircd.conf in the file manager.
Can you go into the terminal and type
Code:

cat /etc/lircd.conf

Ok when i type that i get:
include "/home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Devices/BN59-00683Aa.conf"

I actually edited that .conf file with a notepad to include just this line because i tested with 2 other lines included before and it didn't work and i read someone say that one line will work. I try it and IT STILL not work.

I think my IR signal is not working:
I type $ sudo /etc/init.d/lirc start

and it gives me "Starting lirc daemon: lircdlircd: error in configfile line 9
lircd: reading of file '/home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Devices/B59-00683Aa.conf' failed
lircd: reading of config file failed.

I don't know what to do now.

Re: QtIrreco for N900

Your line in lircd.conf says:
Code:

include "/home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/Devices/BN59-00683Aa.conf"
Does that file definitely exist?

Quote:

In the Devices folder, i have BN59-00609A, Bn59-00634A, Bn59-00683A, BN59-00937A. And in the REMOTES folder i have BN59-00683Aa.conf and remotes.conf.
In this post you've said you can see "Bn59-00683A", but that's not the same as "BN59-00683Aa.conf"

The file referenced in /etc/lircd.conf file is the one that should contain the ir codes etc.

Just as a note, I've got three lines in my lircd.conf file and they work fine.

Yes BN59-00683Aa.conf does exist and it's in REMOTE folder and i place a copy in the DEVICES folder as well. Still not work!

Can i please make two requests? First, romainianusa, would you please edit that post that has your entire config book in it? It's such a long, long way to scroll. :p

Second, could you maybe take it to private messages? I'm subscribed to this thread and it's just the two of you back and forth for some time now. :D

Now that that's out of the way, i'm curious what the present state of this project is, and where it's going. Is it under development?

Edit: Actually, nevermind the first bit. I don't know why i haven't put him on ignore already. Problem solved.

Yes, I'm developing it for now with one colleague. Soon there will be new release with new menu ja pannable lists since they started working along with the new OS update and with Qt 4.5.3 libs.

It sounds like that might be your problem.
On my system:
Devices/:
CME sumvision.conf vistron.conf

Remotes/:
remotes.conf TV.conf

In the Devices folder the files should be something like:

Code:

begin remote

  name  sumvision.conf
  flags RAW_CODES|CONST_LENGTH
  eps            30
  aeps          100

  gap          107633

      begin raw_codes

          name Power
            9000    4450    600    500    650    500
              600    500    600    550    600    500
              600    500    650    500    600    500
etc...

The Remotes folder should have something like:

Code:

Background: default
Image: default

button: Power
fileNameUnPressed: /home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/.themes/modern/buttons/power/unpressed.png
fileNamePressed: /home/user/MyDocs/qtirreco/.themes/modern/buttons/power/pressed.png
etc...

It sounds like you've taken a copy of the remote file and told lirc that it's a device file. The two are NOT the same thing. Remotes files have configuration settings for a remote. Devices have ir codes.

Sorry again all - shutting up now! ;)

Hi There All,
Now I may sound a bit of a noob (thats probably because I am)

But i have installed this app and couldn't get it working with my SKY+ box .... i watched the instructional video on you tube on how to set up the remote but it still didnt work as i dont think i selected the right remote control file when setting up.
The device i want to control is a UK SKY+ box made by Amstrad so i tried the 'SKY+_DVB-S' but it didnt seem to work?
This is my remote http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.203-5707.aspx
can anyone help me?

Thanks

Ok, i uninstall and reinstall fresh and STILL NOT WORK!! I figure that the IR is not working. Someone mention that the lirc must start for IR to work?? But how do i know that it is starting.

You can check it typing ps in X Terminal. You should see this line there:

/usr/sbin/lircd --device=/dev/lirc0 --listen=8765

Seems like you don't have lirc installed. Type apt-get update and then apt-get install lirc in X terminal.

When type apt-get install lirc i get:
Reading package lists...done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information...Done
lirc is already the newest version.
lirc set to manually installed.

So I do have lirc installed and i do see the lirc file in program manager. I just don't know why it's not starting.
