Re: Damaging Case
So how exactly does this case scratch the metal rim? Is it from putting it on and taking it off? or just sliding from normal use?
|
Re: Damaging Case
The case doesn't fit fully snug, it is a little loose so this causes sliding / rubbing / scratching

Re: Damaging Case
Since they are cheap enough (from Hong Kong) I actually got a sample of both cases : the silicon and the hard case. Beward that it can take a very long time to get to you since it has to go through customs and most of the ebay resellers don't exactly use premium postage.
Silicon Case : in the past this is what I have used for my HTC Diamond and S300. The problem here is that it's not very well adapted to a sliding phone so it's composed of two parts with a plastic hinge-type mechanism that adds some extra bulk to the ends of the phone (where the hinges are). In addition, I covers up all the buttons (good thing since you don't get dust in them) but also the IR port making it useless. It also makes the stylus and the lock button difficult to access The fit isn't that great either for the N900 - the bottom part is OK but the top part doesn't hug the metallic screen very well. Weight is fine (it's light) but with the extra volume, it makes this big phone even bigger - too big in my opinion. The good thing is that it looks like it will be fairly effective at protecting the phone. Hard Case : I would have had a tendency to use this instead of the silicon case since it is really a lot more discreet and doesn't cover up the IR port. It doesn't add much extra volume and in my case it does seem to fit pretty snug (I got the package with 2 case - one blue and one black; the black is snug, the blue isn't). My concern of course is that it will eventually damage the metallic part as pointed out earlier. What I wonder is whether or not the people having experienced the metallic cover scratch had a case that was too loose? Has EVERYONE that has had these hard cases experienced scratching problems with them? Is there a solution like putting something in the metallic case cover to make it snug? It seems like plastic shouldn't be able to damage the metal that easily? -=AC=- I |
Re: Damaging Case
I recently bought a lambskin pouch. In the mail again, will see how it goes.

Re: Damaging Case
Everyone,
I found a way to use this case on the n900 without damaging the rim. I would post pics, but it's pretty straight forward. Basically, cut a long peice of electrical tape about 1.5mm wide and cover the whole rim on the n900. It doesn't have to be perfect because the rim part of the case covers it. I noticed without the tape, the case was extremely loose, now it fits on perfectly and is sturdy. |
Re: Damaging Case
I had the same issue. I bought both the black rubberish version, as well as the clear plastic one.
The Black one broke within a week. One of the tabs on the top part broke off. Tried the crystal one and after a couple of days realized there was a jagged bit of plastic sticking out underneath the top section. When I was opening an closing the keyboard it was scratching the textured finish away on the space to the right of the keyboard. Not a big deal as that will wear off over time anyway... still rather crap though! If you think the space above the top line on the keyboard is bad already, these cases cut that in half! I'm not using any form of case, or even a screen protector now... just a lanyard. I'm not too bothered if it gets a few scratches. Important thing is it gets used! Do you work for the n900?, or does it work for you?! |
Re: Damaging Case
Does the Zagg shield protect the area prone to getting scratch from these hard cases? Is this case the same type as that in the OP?
|
Re: Damaging Case
Thanks for the warning OP! just ordered one from ebay too, thankfull to find this!
May try and cover the inside of the case in one of my TV screen wipes, i know the case can actually be pretty good, but i dont wan't it scratching my device. I also ordered a leather case (Pdair if i recall) so i'm hoping that wont do any damage either. Shame :(. |
Re: Damaging Case
I had ordered this prior to seeing this warning and I wish I had saw this beforehand...
The first case arrived broken - the back panel would not clip on as there was a massive crack across it... The seller then sent me a replacement and while it was not broken it did not fit any better! Waste of money, thankfully not much... I am sticking with the all over ZAGG protector that I have installed as that protects the back and screen with no additional bulk. I was hoping that this case would protect the sides but its so flimsy that its unlikely to stay attached and intact for too long... |
Re: Damaging Case
I just received my CP-321 official Nokia case for the N900 from handtec.
Fits snugly over the phone - the cut-out at the top leaves the Nokia logo exposed. However, as you may expect, it's a bit of a nightmare to get off when you receive a call - I have found the best way is to squeeze the bottom and ease the phone out of the top. Also, if you have a handstrap attached, when putting the phone back into the pouch you have to dangle the handstrap through the hole in the bottom of the pouch before pushing the phone in. So, I will only be using the ouch when the phone is in my pocket - when I get to work etc. it'll stay out of the pouch on my desk. |
Re: Damaging Case
I like the CP-321, the only frustrating thing about it is its landscape orientation...
1) It blocks power/USB and headphone jacks 2) It can be a little tricky to get the phone out of the holder... For 1 I got a BH-214 bluetooth headset for music as unfortunately with this case you cannot have anything plugged in. The case has stretched out a bit now as I've had it in constant use for the last month and a half so its not as bad now... |
Re: Damaging Case
So atm no good cases out there? Or if there are what are your recommendations?
|
Re: Damaging Case
Just seen this on Ebay:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/B1-EASECASE-Cu...#ht_4509wt_939 Looks pretty decent, what do you think? I've just ordered a CP-321, beats the hell out of a crappy sock... |
Re: Damaging Case
I was about to order CP-321 but I did some research and most of reviews are bad so I'm avoiding it for now...

Re: Damaging Case
Confirmation: Silicone one mentioned above is a waste of money. It's as sloppy as a merlin's sleeve

Re: Damaging Case
I recently bought a Lamb skin pouch to try off ebay.
http://i.ebayimg.com/16/!BhiSC5gB2k~...jW3-!~~_12.JPG I admit the ebay picture looks rather ugly yet in person this is by far the nicest and most protective case/pouch I've had. While it's actually a "pouch" meaning you have to pull it in and out the N900 fits rather snug and looks rather nice in it. If you have a black wallet that matches it looks good together. On a side note, unlike alot of other leather goods i've gotten off ebay this case doesn't smell and the inside of the case has a nice fabric on it. Probably the nicest thing i've used thus far. I recommend it! E: Updated starting post too to include previous info. I'll get a photo of this case when I can. |

I will say that the hard rubberized case isn't as bad as it might seem. It's problem is bad QC. I bought five and some were perfect others not. If you have a warped case it will have a loose fit that can scratch. I rectified this with heat and reforming the case and some sanding. Fits great now. I have a clear protector too which gives me peace of mind. I think the zagg has the same cut. Bear in mind that it does affect the fit. It is more snug or the tabs may not reach but at least I know the case won't be scratching the phone. |
Re: Damaging Case
Could you recommend a hard case then? I have the Zagg, but I'm not sure if I'll install it since it doesn't cover the rim of the screen.

http://stores.ebay.com/DirectStation...&submit=Search They have lots of nice colors. I got a lot of 5. 2 -Black and one each of yellow, blue and white. The colored ones had a warped fit so I heated them and molded them. It causes whitening though if you overheat. The black and white had perfect fits. White looks pretty cool. Very nice contrast with N900. Problem is it stains easily. Black is pretty standard. But it reminds me of a Thinkpad. Nice smooth rubbery black feel. |
