Re: New XChat build available

that only disables it for a single session, at least here, the notifications come back on the next launch.

Isn't there a way to completely remove this plugin/prevent it from being loaded thru some configuration file?

Re: New XChat build available

Yeah on bigger servers the plugin is really annoying because you have to click like 100 messages away.

Crogge 2010-02-27 21:56

Re: New XChat build available

Simple hacky solution how to disable the annoying plugin:

Quote:

cd /usr/lib/xchat/plugins/
mv xchat_notify.so xchat_notify.so.bak
Xchat will stop loading the plugin and you can finally use your phone again without tipping hundreds of PMs away.

XChat is working impressively well on the N900. I'm currently trying to tie it in to espeak so that I can hear what's going on while I'm walking around. There's an XChat plugin to do this, but it's Python based, and Python is disabled.

I was just wondering what the current problems are with using Python, whether there are any plans to implement the XChat Python plugin for the N900 any time soon, or whether anyone has any alternative suggestions for getting my N900 to read me what's happening on IRC :)

Just what the changelog says - it does not compile in SB2 when Python support is enabled.

Well, dunno much about Python plugins but if you make XChat compile in SB2 with Python support enabled, I will gladly include your fixes into the release. You can report your progress right here, in this thread.

Why does that matter? It compiles fine in SB1 with Python support enabled. And SB1 is what the Autobuilder uses.

Yes, but I cannot build XChat locally with Python enabled. So, I am unable to test or debug it before committing to autobuilder.

You know what I think of SB2, anyway. :)

It's a one line change in debian/rules -- surely it's not hard to add "--enable-python" before running dpkg-buildpackage to prepare a source package?

Probably the same I think of SB1 :)

Well, there is another little wart that comes with it: if XChat is compiled with Python support and there is no Python installed, XChat prints weird error messages on startup (about shared libraries not being found). Given that, the SB2 incompatibility, and the fact that nobody seems to need it (this is the first request for Python in months, and only because there is some obscure plugin that uses it), I simply do not want to mess with Python support.

If Python is installed, then they shouldn't show. :)
The only reason that people may see them is if they don't have (lib)Python installed, and that's possible because I stopped libpython from being added to XChat's dependencies automatically - I figure noone wants it installed automatically if they have no need for it.

Of course, the tradeoff, as you know, is the error messages. I can shrug them off but I can see how they may confuse new users...

True, I have no need for the plugin either, but "every little helps"... =)

Better figure out why the transparent full-screen-exit button became opaque again in FBReader, and seems to interfere with screen taps now. =) In the meanwhile, I will fix the runaway timer there, and Geometer is porting 0.12.x to Maemo5.

As to XChat, it does look like the notification dialogs are better be disabled by default. Will take care of these in the next upload to Autobuilder.

*Connecting to myproxy.server.com (XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX) port XXXXX
Proxy failed to connect to host (error 3)
Proxy traversal failed

The config was copied directly from my xchat config on my laptop so should work fine.

Any ideas?

I realised that it only fails the first time when it tries to connect to the networks it's set to connect to on startup.

If I then open the Networks Window and tell it to connect manually the proxy works correctly.

Any ideas?

Are there settings to Enable DIsable the notify plugin? Also is there a way to just disable the vibrate option?

It's an IRC client.

If you're not familar with IRC then think of it as the oldest internet Social Network.

Feature idea / request:
I have many channels open... how about having the arrow button(s) in the right corner of the screen blink or have a different colour so that you know there is activity on the channels not visible on the screen?

Ok, I have just commited the next build of XChat to the Extras-Testing. This version disables cehteh's plugin for everything but the LED notifications. It also enables the original XChat bubble nontifications in the default config (you will have to rm -rf ~/.xchat2 to switch back to default config).

1 Attachment(s)
I thought that in order to be slightly productive - I would comment on some of the issues I've seen, as this is the bugtracker.

I use xchat on my n900 a fair bit, including a week when my laptop was broken.

See the attachment for how I've got it setup. I have no theme other than the default n900 one installed.
I understand some of these are probably upstream issues, in both xchat and maemo.

A) Input box size.

Input box is way too tall.
With the above font size, the input box could easily allow one line - with the inputbox only shrunk in height - or two with the borders on the bottom reduced.

B) tabs to the left mode should have the option of pinning the tab bar so you don't accidentally finger it.

I have 'tree style' tabs - as they are smallest - and the names truncated at 4 chars - this works OK.
(Some means of adding channel aliases like in pidgin would be lovely).
The selector largely works OK - fingering the tabs is not too hard. One common annoyance is accidentally fingering the seperator bar, and changing the width of the bar.

C) Scroll should work in some manner on the main window from touches.

Kinetic scrolling would be consistent with the rest of the platform, but is probably hard to implement.
Alternatively, touching on the top/bottom half of the screen to scroll up/down one page might work.

D) If the last isn't easy - at least make the scrollbar bar an obvious colour

Scroll-bar colour is barely visible - especially in poor lighting conditions.

E) full-screen button to the righthandside of the inputbox

Fullscreen button to show hide the titlebar.

F) Better managment of connection loss.

This is hard.
A preference 'always reconnect when new network connection occurs' would probably be the simplest logically.

G) settings -> preferences.
Scrolling left and right is not obvious - and hard to finger due to the small size of the '.'s
Making these > and < would make it more obvious.

H) Blue arrow cannot be bound.
In some cases, this isn't an issue - as blue-H can be bound as (.
But, blue-rightarrow or shift-blue-H (shift-'(' ) for example can't be.

Re: New XChat build available

so as this is supposed to be the bugtracker for xchat:
WHAT TO DO: click and hold channel tab for popup menu, select "add to favourites", accept dialog saying "added <chanel> to blabla list", restart xchat (as it's known to store config only on regular quit)
EXPECTED RESULT: xchat starts and opens the channel just added to favourites
ACTUAL RESULT: channel missing in list of channels to auto-open on startup, channel not opened

cheers

joerg_rw 2010-05-23 13:15

Re: New XChat build available

another somewhat related bug:
WHAT TO DO:
menu->[xchat]->[network list...]
on "Networks" tab, select e.g. <FreeNode>, hit [Edit...]
on "Connecting(2)" tab, hit [...] of "Favourite channels:"
in "XChat: Favourite Channels (Auto-Join List)" menu, hit [Add]
a new highlighted entry "#channel" with focus pops up, edit it to e.g. "#aaa"
click [OK] (do NOT click somewhere else to set focus to another list item!)

EXPECTED RESULT:
"Favourite channels:" list in "XChat Edit FreeNode", Tab "Connecting(2)" should contain item "#aaa,"

ACTUAL RESULT:
list contains "#channel," istead of "#aaa,"

yet another bug:
selecting treeview for chanswitcher, the chan-'tab' context menu becomes nonfunct

[edit]
I'd really appreciate a decent bugtracker instead of this tmo thread :-S

slightly off-topic, is there a working sysinfo script/plugin for xchat on the n900?

looked around a bit on the web, couldn't find anything usable.

If you're getting the dreaded

*** Notice -- You need to identify via SASL to use this server
Closing Link: *********.tmodns.net (SASL access only)

message on freenode or the like, I found a pretty good SASL plugin in C. I posted a quick set of instructions to get it up and running over on my blog: http://bluevandevelopment.com/blog/2...c-on-the-n900/

Not sure if author is still around, but it doesn't hurt to ask:

Is there any chance for vibra coming back? Or including different led colour for channel message/pm/your username in message(highlighted line)? Having backlight on all the time drains battery heavily, and having different notifications would be very useful.

Havng a different LED color is a no-go, sorry. I think the vibra can be configured in the Maemo system notifications settings.

I use Opera as my main browser. When I "right-click" on a link in xchat and try to open it with Opera it says: -remote/ ,in the adress-bar. Anyone else experiencing this?

Is it possible to open links from Youtube with cutetube when right-clicking in Xchat?

Thanks :)

Edit:
This is what the url-handler states:
!opera -remote 'openURL(%s)'

Edit 2:
Open link in browser works since I have Opera as default browser. Didn't try that earlier. Doh! :)

Re: New XChat build available

I know this is not the thread for this plugin but query12 seems to post here and i could not find the thread for x-sys.

I use a N810WE and every time i use x-sys it crashes xchat immediately. Is this a known error and is there a fix?

Happens on what i think is something in /osinfo as both that command and /sysinfo crash it any other command works with no problems.

Qwerty12 hasn't been here in years.

I still miss that little fella. :(

Anyway, open up Xterm and type

xchat

When it crashes, copy and paste the terminal output.

wulfe 2013-04-25 03:43

Re: New XChat build available

It says nothing but simply:

Segmentation Fault

It has no problem restarting but every time i type /osinfo or /sysinfo it dies. Rather discouraging since i like the script a lot and i have not seen this issue any where else. This has happened now on two separate installations btw. on both main flash and miniSD. Doesnt seem to matter wether its a fresh install or an old one nor does location of install matter. At this point i would just like to know the location of the script itself so that i can just alter it and remove the "distro" code and just do with out that entirely. as calling the distro name is what seems to make it crash.

Yeah searching for it here failed for me to. X-Sys is a system information plugin for X-Chat originaly created by Michael Shoop and was ported to maemo by querty12. I have seen a few good comments on it here and there leading me to believe it was fully functional at one time but not one report of an error or crash since its release.

I am currently rummaging through other distros that may have encountered this error but nothing solid so far that looks like a lead to a fix. I have also not figured out where this plugin installs either as it does not place the script in the traditional ~/.xchat2/plugins/ folder it places it somewhere else.

Re: New XChat build available

Is anyone still developing for this? Xchat itself seems to have stopped developing but there is an alternative: hexchat.org/ which is based on xchat, and has free, opensource windows and linux client.
Could this be ported?

Also: is it possible to run perl scripts? I dont know how to recompile.
