Imagine my disgust/shock/horror/self loathing, what ever you want to call it, when the game plays better on the 3GS than my N900, and I mean better..

- Higher FSP
- More vivid colours
- absolutely 'no' jittering

What. The. Frak!!

Please don't go down the higher resolution route, no no no, that has very little to do with this type of game, a few animated bitmaps, governed by 1/2 a sinusoidal wave, and some basic physics at the end....

... I mean, come on.... really??

I was flabbergasted, then I had the usual iTunes Vs Ovi, discussion, which I cant defend anymore, how can you, the N900 might as well not have shipped with a Ovi link,

Sooooooo disappointed my Nokia and my N900 right now, double that up with the fact that Nokia still haven't sorted out the movie play back issues, I'm really regretting getting rid of my 3GS...

... Nokia have until the next iPhone to convince me that I didn't make a 2 year contractual mistake switching to N900, if by July my beloved N900 is still a horrid mess of unfinished beta software and issues galore I just buy a PAYG iPhone, as other devices really don't take my fancy.

:(

.
If those are the kinds of things that Make your Monkey jump, then you are definitely iPhone material. I say cut your losses and get back into the iPhone closet.

That's like a Linux user converting to Windows because it plays Crysis.

That would be my bet. He probly has some process(es) on the background eating resources...

Sometimes our beloved multitasking can become an antifeature. Maybe maemo has failed to offer multitasking with a proper priority management. On the same time the iPhone does have multitasking, it is just inflexibly tuned for a specific usage behavior dictated by the bitten apple folks.

We need an application called “iPhonizer” where you list programs like Angry birds and when you are using them it puts all other processes to sleep or something...

Maemo is great because it is flexible... Byt how about automated and acting as you desire with little need for configuration? Possible, but are we there yet?

Re: getting a bit hacked off with nokia!! :(

my intent was not just to ***** about angry birds starting this thread. but about the N900 in general.

after reading these and other comments in other threads its becoming more and more apparent that the N900 is on a knife edge, users are reporting problems that others are just not experiencing, a program will work on one N900 but not others, angry birds is jittery to play on my N900 but not our nokia reps, the bounce demo runs flawlessely on my N900 but not on the guys N900 i just signed onto a 2 year contract.

who is to blame here? nokia? the developers of maemo? the chinese factory that assembles the N900's??

lets face it, if apple included multitasking a-la N900 or Palm Pre and a dodgy flash player, most of the new N900 users here wouldnt of eveb considered a N900 and a viable purchase option

Works fine on my N900, it's a very nice game!

My N900 can do things iPhone/Android/Symbian users can only dream of - when the Nokia dude said this is a computer in your pocket, he was NOT exaggerating!

Maybe you should reflash your phone - COMPLETELY including the eMMC aswell. 9 times out of 10 this gives me a nice clean tingly feeling about my phone and apps generally work much better.

hmmm.. i just don't see the nokia being a iphone replacement. Once you go Mac you can never go back. I hate apple products, they give me a headach. That's why i love my nokia.

There is nothing wrong with this phone, it does what it says it's supposed to do.

Not sure what you mean by the movie support? Almost everything I download off of transmission works, only once in awhile does something not play.

O well, all i know is I am happy with this and I wasn't happy with my G1, Mytouch, Hero.. blah blah blah.

Maybe you had other apps running in the background while playing the game. If so, you should have turned them off, as applications running in the background do consume processing power!

Hmpf, I guess Steve Jobs is right. People are too stupid for multitasking nowadays...

EDIT: Thread title updated to make searching for it easier. Previously, it was: "some things i noticed about in the iphon os vs maemo5 debate".

Re: [Maemo 5] Angry Birds on N900 and iPhone: a comparison

seriously ... is the reason you bought a n900 to game? I think the vast majority of the happy users bought it as an internet tablet or specialized phone. You need gaming so bad ... a cheap GBA or other derivative of the Nintendo / psp family does just fine.

If your deciding on whether to keep a mobile connection device based on its game play, I am betting you missed the point of buying it in the first place...

Been seeing a lot of these "please help me validate myself" post, seriously they are a waste of time. If you hate the device quietly take it back and seep into the apple mud. No need to post about it, saves the flames and nashing of teeth over various inane statements and comparisons.

I wonder if there should be an acceptable (self imposed) limit to forum backlash against posts that are against the popular opinions of this forum :)

I find it rather silly to find the amount of defensive posts to outnumber the original offending (?) post and seems to provoke or prolong the negativity without actually addressing the issue.

Re: [Maemo 5] Angry Birds on N900 and iPhone: a comparison

Maybe time to ask Nokia why they shut down the level pack of Angrybirds since Rovio wouldn't mind having it still there for us?

AB runs just fine but check your apps in background and think what kind of crazy stuff you put in the phone lately if it's jittery.

or just a quick reboot.

Can you make an app that does that every time you open the camera? I bet the video would be much better if everything else went to sleep.

Re: [Maemo 5] Angry Birds on N900 and iPhone: a comparison

I don't understand how it's slower on the N900.. Are you playing the game with 1000 apps opened at the same time?? I usually play it with maybe a couple of things opened at the same time with it and I barely see some slowness or stuttering. like it almost never happens..

I usually play this with the media player open, and maybe two web windows opened..

Re: [Maemo 5] Angry Birds on N900 and iPhone: a comparison

I'm fine with the looks and speed. On rare occasions I get some stutter, but it never bugged me.

One thing I can't imagine, tho, is playing this without a stylus. The accuracy I get with it I can't imagine with using my finger.

Re: [Maemo 5] Angry Birds on N900 and iPhone: a comparison

OP did you tun off 'power saving' in display settings, before comparison? Power saving mode may affect perceived brightness/colours etc (Power saving = CABC display mode?)

Just checked, to me Angry Birds looks visibly brighter with powersaving off.
