Assuming now that your problem is caused by the vpnc_0.5.8-0m5_armel.deb package installed before upgrade to PR1.1 over SSU. You can either reflash with PR 1.1 and reinstall vpnc or you could try following manual steps. Please report if they work:

1. Install 'rootsh' package
2. Open X Terminal
3. Enter 'sudo gainroot'
4. Enter 'mv /etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script.dpkg-dist /etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script'
5. Create file '/etc/maemo-dhcp.d/60_vpnc'
6. Add the following code in /etc/maemo-dhcp.d/60_vpnc:

Code:

#!/bin/sh -e
if route -n | grep -e "^0\.0\.0\.0" | grep -q tun0; then
    route -n | grep -e "^0\.0\.0\.0" | grep $interface | awk '{print $2}' > /tmp/vpnc_route
    ip=`cat /var/run/vpnc/defaultroute | cut -f3 -d' '`
    if [ -z $ip ]; then
        killall vpnc
    else
        if route -n | grep -e "^0\.0\.0\.0" | grep -q $ip; then
            route delete default $interface
        fi
    fi
fi

7. In X Terminal enter 'chmod +x /etc/maemo-dhcp.d/60_vpnc'
8. Reboot the device

You need steps 5-7 if you want to continue using you old vpnc installation. Another way is to reinstall vpnc which reinstalls the hack in file '/etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script'

My wlan now works after first uninstalling vpnc and then

cp /etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script.dpkg-dist /etc/udhcpc/libicd_network_ipv4.script

Hope this helps,

That's /etc/udhcpc/libidc_network_ipv4.script.dpkg-dist and not /etc/udhcpc/libidc_network_ipv4.script

Doesn't the latter exist at all on your device?

Edit: The part i was missing was the fact that the dpkg-dist file seems to be the one that's created if the original one has been modified and is thus not touched by dpkg.

Yes, it does. The N900 runs udhcpc for a reason.

I didn't have vpnc installed anymore, so i omitted steps 5-7. But the remaining hints fixed the problem. Is pkg-dist the name dpkg uses if it finds the original file modified and doesn't want to touch it?

Calendar is way faster
Modest is faster (but i still think that it could improve, sometimes gmail inbox is there within a second other times it takes 4)
Browses has basic portrait support (people really shouldnt count on full ui (== desktop) portrait support for Maemo 5! This will be per app)
it dont see MicroB as that quicker currently.. But it has 1 annoying feature now.. when i go to this site or for example my-symbian and then i zoom in to click the small new post picture, it goes to that next page to the new post but in the zoom level i am in, it doesnt zoom out first, thats quite annoying..

Lost 10MB in root.

Re: PR1.1 Feedback?

Everything seems to be working nice and smooth after the update.

Except for...

I have a couple of videos (encoded using HandBrake) that used to work with the Media Player before update, but won't play anymore. The player will just keep bouncing the 5 dots progress indicator back and forth indefinitely (or at least the few minutes I waited).

The videos that came pre-installed with the device, and videos recorded with device camera still work though.

If I read the bugreport corectly they only enabled some USSD-Codes (e.g. *#06# for IMEI works). Seems to me they have a list of allowed code and anything thats not in there still gets the error (e.g. *121# for showing my active MultiSIM cards).

read here for more info: bugreport

Re: PR1.1 Feedback?

I had some scary moments after doing an apt-get dist-upgrade, but it all worked out in the end. The main thing I have noticed is MicroB seems to be much faster at rendering! Much less scrolling then waiting for it to catch up. I didn't expect that to be fixed as I thought it was pretty much the limits of the device.

No. Fixing *#06# to check the IMEI is useless particularly since you can check the IMEI from settings-> about.

The bug fix that I am referring to is here. It says it is FIXED. But apparently, it is not included in this firmware update.

you are right, it says fixed but is not included, as last comment also says..

Re: PR1.1 Feedback?

I am very happy about the update. Since my old E51 did not support OTA and conserving user data I found the Maemo update to be extremely user friendly in that sense. I see also that many small bugs are gone and the overall responsiveness is better.

I noticed a small wierdness though. I have a mpg video on SD and while the media player played it before the update that is not the case anymore. I do have Extra Decoders Support installed (and upgraded it from extras-testing) it but still no luck. This is not a big problem since mplayer plays the file but still wondering reason for this. The video is mpeg1 encapsulated in mpeg-ps.

Apparently after the update all the notification lights are turned back on. I had all but sms on mine off prior to update. Go to Settings>Notification Lights and choose the ones you want.

Re: PR1.1 Feedback?

Guys, you lose ~10 megs in root because there are more QT libraries installed (ick).

I couldn't OTA update until I removed ioquake3. I had 65 megs of free space, after starting with 22, and I was about to give up until I saw other people removed ioquake3 and it worked, and it did for me, too.

the bug, battery died in 6 hours isn't fixed. in other words, same as before. if you ever turned wifi on then switch it off without reboot, all the power is still consumed within several hours.

Re: PR1.1 Feedback?

If you have a modified camera shutter sound file, after updating to pr 1.1 the original sound file is restored, so you'll have to change it again.

As one of the previous posters noted, some videos that played fine before the update now have issues. The sound will play just fine but the video is stuck on the first frame of the video file. I suspect its a video codec issue.

Other than that everything seem much the same. Portrait browsing is a nice plus.

Re: PR1.1 Feedback?

As I suspected with Full Portrait Mode !! I was waiting for FULL portrait mode as this has been written several places on the web !! Anyway portrait mode is not working well, and MS Exchange Server 2003 support is still not working for me (so all my colleagues with iPhones and Nokia N95/82s are capable of syncing their jobmails, but still no me!)..

Anyway, would be REALLY nice to get a proper FINAL conclusion if FULL portrait mode is coming for the N900 from some official sources so that I know how soon I have to sell my N900 to still get some money back for it !! (or not)

Where can we ask for a final answer about Full Portrait Mode??

I do not want to cary around this device if full portrait mode is not coming!!!

Lol. Son, there is nothing like FuLL portrait mode coming to N900. If you want the portrait mode, sell the device and buy the iphone or wait for the maemo 6 device (which may contain portrait mode).

I'm sorry, but i'm 90% sure that it won't ever happen. It was too bad that some who reviewed N900 said so. We got the portrait browser that was said to be coming by Nokia, that's all.
That 10% i left there would be if we can update N900 to run Maemo 6/harmattan that gets released this year.

Rumour is that next major update for N900 is in March/April with Qt 4.6.

Did you try sync via the Petrovich app? Worked fine for my Pioneer AVIC.

I thought that codes that starts with *# will be fixed on this build.. But I guess not.. :(

Oh well it's not a biggie..

But I noticed that MicroB is SO much faster in loading pages now.. x-term gets a new icon too.. :p

Ok and qgil I know that you guys said that full portrait for the UI is coming in Maemo 6.. But can you at least meet us in the middle on this? Can you guys at least add portrait mode for:

- Conversations.

- Media Player (only when playing songs).

- and finally add a T9 keyboard option to the virtual keyboard? (just like the s60v5 ones?) for MicroB. (T9 Keyboard only detected when the N900 is turned into portrait mode, other-wise it only shows the normal, current, keyboard layout).

Did try that (select contacts) send via bluetooth, didn't work :(

I have a BMW 2009 and I'm using the manufacturer's built in car kit. Used to work fine with all my previous nokias N97, E90, etc...
