Hello,

i can confirm that german channel list doesn't work for days
after today.

Some stupid questions:

1) Can i use showtime offline after pulling down all informations i
need? When i restart the app the downloaded listings seem to
be lost.

2) Can i download all data for my favourite channels and/or
for the whole week at once?

Bug found, and I don't really know how to report it so I'll do it here.

Using Showtime 1.0-3:
1) Go one day ahead in time
2) Try to download data, the data should not exist for this bug to reproduce
3) On the next day, try to re-download the data from the same channel
4) It will tell you that no data is available

It should download the data and display it correctly. Assuming you use Xmltv Sverige for Swedish programs I know that this day have program data. Maybe this is fixed in 1.0-5, I have yet to try.

EDIT: Also, 1.0-6 doesn't start.

ver 1.0-6 is available now.
The data source url's had a minor problem which is corrected.

Sorry I could not get a chance to test all channels for all regions.
Im going to rely on you for telling me that
otherwise Il have to hire my family for doing the testing :p

BTW after installing just do the following as well
that deletes the cache, as it would be wrong due to the wrong urls.

yes you can, the data is stored locally and deleted when its about 2 days old.
so when you click go, if the data exists locally it doesnt go online.

not for the whole week at once at the moment, but yes for daily.
I kept that out so that we dont abuse the sources.
as i mentioned previously if you have 10 favourites on 10 different channels
you will download almost 10*7=70 files ( assuming 1 per day )
some datasources generate data weekly, maybe i can add an option for those regions , a button to get weekly data.

I have tons of grabber urls with me and so does google ;)
But sorry I need some place to directly download already generated XMLTV files, I dont have intentions to generate them myself and host it for all regions , for obvious reasons ;)

Ive had 3 requests already for dutch channels, ill look around for any sites hosting this, you can check and let me know too.
Or if you are willing to run a cron job to generate the data using a dutch grabber and then host it somewhere for the rest of us that would be nicer :).

i downloaded the latest version 1.0.6 and removed the mentioned
directory /opt/showtime/data/de/.de, added one channel
to my favorites, downloaded the list for today and restarted the
app. Nothing seems to be cached?!

you need to click GO after selecting your channel.
If your files have already been downloaded, on clicking GO it will be read from the cached files and it wont go online again.

caching does not mean autoloading btw it only means it doesnt always download from the datasource but it still involves reading from file locally.

thank you for the hint.

in the link you mentioned a multiselect feature. how to do that?
this would be exactly what i would need, otherwise its exhausting
to get the data from the web respective cache for each day
and each channel separately.

besides a feature like "updating several days/channels" it
would be a nice to have to filter programs in the primetime
8-12 p.m. etc, maybe one could highlight it in a different color.
the idea to add events directly in the calendar is great.

Oh, yeah I did that, and now that you say it, the data download works as expected :)
I thought it fixed itself after upgrading but that was not the case apparently.

when you select a channel to view, you can select multiple programmes on that channel
for either viewing in the detail window or
setting a reminder in your N900 SHOWTIME calendar or
performing a remote record

basically when you click a programme in the list its selected and when clicked again its deselected and you can select multiple.

When you click on MYFAVOURITES from the channel drop down all your favourite channels will be preselected so you dont have to individually select them again, but to see the data you still need to click go , this is to save bandwith and processing power, the idea is to see only 1 channel at a time for a selected date and so process only 1 file at a time , its quite intensive, so better not to load your N900 and then to find it struggling.

However, I will see if I can find a good way to load the data for favourite channels automatically for the selected date if it exists.
Ill add this as a user option with a checkbox so user can deselect if needed. Sometime I view only 1 or 2 of my favourites.

Another option is to have different favourites lists , but maybe we are taking it too far for a simple app, no ? :)

Im only trying to save time for making another useful app for us so I want to limit enhancements unless its absolutely a neccessity ;)

nice idea, will try this :) ! , but the problem is Maemo5 themes make it difficult to override system colours, when I override its always caused some irregular behaviour , but worth a try again.

One thing that is irritating is the lagging in lists. Maybe it's not your fault but it's really annoying and you can accidentally pick the wrong thing because of it.

noticed that if you update then the app won't run so if anyone else has a problem then at the moment you need to uninstall and reinstall the updated version.

still think it's a cool app and most useful.

yep thats what I meant, processing these xml's and downloading stuff takes its toll on the N900, which is why I made the usecase for the user to click GO each time and not load everything automatically.

I did think of an option for viewing time, so the user selects his prime time and only programmes in the prime time are shown in the list, but decided against it in the end.

I think I found the reason for that.
I had updated some installation scripts in 1.0-5 version which wasnt complete.
From version 1.0-6 you shouldnt have this issue.

I will announce here when a version is useable, so keep a subscription to the thread or just follow it when you update.

that would mean the datasource has no data on those channels.

It means that the site that provides the Italian data doesn't have any data for this channel today. So you can't solve it, really.

Oh sorry, but yesterday and today i've got the same NO DATA AVAILABLE FOR THIS CHANNEL. D'you think that tomorrow i will find data for Canale5 and Italia1 ? Is a temporary problem? Right?

Well, you can never know, maybe the data grabbing script has broken, and if that's case it can take a while, but if you're lucky it might work soon.

Ciao Alex, I think that the problems could be yours. I'm in Italy and I can download Italia1 and Canale5 easily.

There were datas yesterday and there are datas today, so I think you could have a problem with your internet connection.

EDIT: ok I've problems with Canale 5 too, but Italia 1 works fine (like Rai).

I just voted for showtime.

Would you consider to add the functionality to grab all favourite channels at once?
As I understand it, when I choose my favourite channels it loads them and I can navigate through them with the "->" and "<-" buttons, but it does not grab the data automatically for the selected date. I have to manually hit "go" for each channel.

I think the reason to have a favourite-list is to be able to look at the programmes and compare them for a certain time. like you would with an offline programme-guide.

Im planning the following enhancements for the next version
( I would not want to change the design of the app, so the enhancement will be restricted to that extent , Im trying not to break existing functonality :) )

1. Give a new option in the menu called SearchTitles

Here you can configure the programme titles you are interested in for a channel.
Then on clicking a "search" button or similar , the app will download all listing for the channel for the whole week ( or all the data available for the week, sometimes its less than a week for some channels ).
The app will then search all listings for your search title and auto select them.
The user can then click on record/remind all selected programmes or deselect what he want and then do the same.

2. User selectable reminders

I will also add a new option in the reminder functionality where the user can select the recurrence and an end date for the calendar reminder. This will be purely based on user input and will have nothing to do with the actual programme listings. This will save some bandwidth and cpu time if the user already knows this programme will occur on a frequent basis until a certail date.

3. Prime time viewing

configure a prime time if you wish to see only programmes between that time on favourite channels for a selected date.

4. About screen

Add a software version to the title or an about page.

5. Dont show past programmes

A user selectable option not to show listings in the past.

There may be more to follow, but this is the thought I could put together after hearing from you and from what I had planned.

How about removing all 'shows' from the channel view that have already occurred, e.g. when you open the app at 2 pm, don't display all the programming that has aired since 6 am...

simple, but still a nice one :)
Anyways, the idea was to display all programmes of the day including yesterday :) in case you want to know the programmes on a day, sometimes its needed.
What can be done is add an option to not show past programmes as you say, this will also make the app abit lighter and there wont be that occassional lag when you have huge lists.
