Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
for some of those having issues - my n900 had a wierd problem, scrolling up would most of the times scroll down especially when i scrolled really fast in the rss reader and even it webpages, very annoying.
turns out it was the screen protector - i cant understand how/why, it does not make sense but i removed it and now my n900 works fine. |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
I've tried removing the screen protector and leaving it in rice overnight without much luck. Even tried pulling it apart to dry it out - got stuck on the screws that hold the LCD and touch screens together (couldn't get to the touch-screen).
The other day, I held a blow-dryer on it from a distance (low fan/heat) and it worked ok for a few minutes until it cooled down. The humidity has been really bad here recently and I think it may have some condensation inside the touchscreen. Is there any way to answer/end calls using the keyboard? At least it would function as a phone again. I can SSH into it and/or bring up xterm (ctrl-shift-x). I really like the n900, but am hesitant to buy another n900 or replacement screen (or Nokia) in case this happens again. |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
My problems went away just like it cames...
Since yesterday the touchscreen have become more and more responsive and now it's completely normal! Uber weird! I'dont REALLY know how it's working again |

Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
Left the screen protector off overnight and it appears to be working again. The rain has also stopped and it is feeling less like a (humid) sweaty arm-pit around here.

Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
I don't know nothing anymore!
Yesterday after my reply posted here, I checked my N900 that was charging, running the transmission (a torrent application), It was very very hot and there was a error msg that I dont remember... After I turned it off and when I torn it on again the screen has become unresponsive, like there something holding the screen, I mean when u press a button it's like it's beeing holding, u move your finger to move the screen it comes back to the same position! Extreme weird! Don't know what to do.... Should I open the device or flash it? |

I bought a different brand of screen protector, no problem now, it's thinner than the one that caused the trouble, not sticky at all either, electrostatic I guess. |

Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
Lol, you wouldn't think the screen protector was causing problems - but it was! I'd had in on since it was NEW and never had an issue. The screen protector probably got worn over time!
It was just pot luck, I didn't have anything to lose so just removed it! Anyway glad I could help! |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
Is there any difference between reinstal the software by Nokia Software Uploader and reflash using a random software?

Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
HELP!
I don't want to start new thread 'cause i'm having the same problem, touchscreen is not working AT ALL. Keyboard is working fine though cause when i press the keyboard in goes to my contacts. Here's the last thing I did last night before waking up this morning noticed that the phone freezed up on me: *phone is on google chat and facebook chat. I still recieve fb chat messages but unable to click them *phone is on silent mode *calendar is set to alarm 12:00 noon *the only thing i installed from extra devel is MAPPERO & the app where you can switch on tablet mode and it was installed like a month ago and is working fine. * i can move the background HALFWAY but it won't go all the way to the other background. *x terminal is working by pressing Ctrl + Shift + X I woke up and the screen looks it froze on while the calendar alarm sets off, i can see i have a new message(i.m. or text, idk). That's about it. You think it's a BUG or something? Any kind of help will be greatly appreciated, thanks! |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
Miraculous worked for me:
I had a similar trouble and I don't exacly how I fix it up. It's weird but it's true. Let me say what I think that solve the problem (Anyway I'm quite sure It was a software problem): Refreshed the P.R 1.3 with the software updater. At first I tought It was useless but then I let it turned on, offline, for like 30hrs without touching it.After that everything was working (slowly) fine! I mean after my screen star to work again, without problems, I noticed a slowlier performance. Just that. |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
i will talk about my story with the Nokia N900 and the rice
i was keeping my N900 in my pocket and it got all wet becasue the pocket was full of fibers. it worked well immediately after that but in the next morning, the touch function stopped working completely.even if i pressed in the same spot 100 times. i searched and found this topic , read all the posts and decided the best option is to get some rice and see what the hell is going on. first of all, i immersed the device in rice for some time ( may be 20 hours). and then when i got it out, the screen would recognize my input in some spots(vibration activated) but wont actually press these buttons(the button is highlighted and nothing happens). so i said the rice made an improvement. i got back to it and immersed the phone another day. when i got phone back, immediately after i switched it on the touch screen worked only in some spots and responds insanely in other spots. i got frustrated and opened the x-terminal by ctrl+shift+x . i forgot and x-terminal was opened for about 5 minutes. And When i got back to the phone...............Everything works PERFECTLY!!!! Touch Screen is back to normal . Try this method it may be is the problem. 1-get some rice. 2-immerse your lovely phone for 1.5 days 3-switch on , open your x-terminal and wait. 4-good luck |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
i figured out that the phone got back to his old state no touch is working at all ?

For those who fixed the problem by removing protection film
I had a similar problem with the touchscreen, it was getting more and more "jumpy" (i.e. when touching certain areas the image was "vibrating" instead of registering a click), scrolling was only half working, click would sometimes register in the wrong places etc. Some days were better than others, but overall things were degrading fast.
I came across this thread and took the advice of removing the screen protection film (mind you, one of the expensive 15 Euros kinds, worked very well for half a year). It worked, but now my question is: if I put it back on, after cleaning it, will the problems come back? Has anyone tried? It's going to be a hassle to clean it up properly and re-apply it, it would be a shame to then discover that the problems are then back again. |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
To be honest, I get problems with screen protectors alot. I clean the screen, make sure there is no dust and that it is completely clean, then apply. It is then ok. Then all of a sudden, one day, the screen will play up, even though there is nothing under the protector. Because of this, I buy cheap ones from ebay - a twelve pack for about Ģ3 - then when it plays up, just replace it again. But I don't know why sometimes it's ok for ages, and others, it plays up sooner. Weird. I have had three n900's, and they all act the same. It may be because the screen protectors are so cheap, but I don't want to pay for something like a Zagg protector, just for it to go wrong after a few days/weeks or whatever. To be honest, you will probably struggle to get a used one clean enough to put back on without any problems, but it's worth atry.

Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
Wow, just thought my N900 had failed me. Used it in the morning, and put it it in my pocket as usual. Pulled it out 2-3 hours later and my touchscreen was acting really weird. Well, time for a reboot anyway i thought. But back at the lockscreen i noticed that the reboot hadn't fixed it.
It seemed like someone was pressing 3 all the time, even when i did not touch anything. I had a really hard time typing in the lock code and the pin. And after booting up completely it ran straight into the desktop setup thing and messed up all my icons. I still managed to get into screen calibration somehow and ran it, but that did not help ether. After reading through this thread i gave removing the screen protector (zagg invisible shield) a try. I had this on over a year now and it worked flawlessly all the time. But i was kind of desperate and after removing it everything is fine again. And the colors are better. ;) I think i will stay without a protector now, since the device is over a year old, and is not treated too rough by me. I still would like to know what caused it though. Static electricity on the protector or what? I don't get it... |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
im pretty sure the same thing has happened to me, i cant get into it because i have a lock code on it but the touch screen isnt working and i cant unlock it :/
|
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
i also had the same problem, my touch screen doesnt work. sent it for repair. when i got it back it work fine about 2/3 hours and again i got the same problem. after reading these posts i removed my protective film also. but nothing happened. it does'n work anymore. but this i can tell for sure. this is my final NOKIA!!!

Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
I just faced similar problem as many of you have described in this thread which is screen acting weird double touches out of control sporiadically etc.
HOW TO FIX THE SCREEN PROBLEM! well after successfully fixing it second time now i know that its the screen protector which is causing the problem dont know why but to fix this problem all you need to do is remove the screen protector clean the screen and reapply the screen protector again thats it! Hopefully that should solve the touch screen problems. Enjoy the genious N900 again! |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
Hi all,
Sadly, I have the same problem as you guys. For me, screen protector is not a problem at all. It is a circuit *connection* problem I guess. Because if I bend the screen a bit, everything is back to normal. My boys and I had dropped this n900 several times. Maybe that is the root cause. Whew.... |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
This happens over and over with nokia devices (770, N800, N810, N900). I had a problem with 770 and N810.
I think the main issue is the resistive technology. It was simply not meant for so much swyping and other finger dragging gestures. Initially they were intended for point interaction, but someday some clever software developer invented thumb-friendly operation. Actually the wanted to emulate a iFruity which did have proper technology behind it. It basically means that areas of the screen are systematically pressured, and the thin film becomes less uniform sooner or later. At the same time, covering plastics is deformed as well over time. Can you specify what is your general use pattern? Do you use stylus at all? |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
is there a way for calibrating the pressure sensitivity in areas?
I ask because in the MyPaint program the screen is more sensitive in certain areas (in general less sensitive at margins)... I also use screen-protector. |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
ok guys i had the same problem as most of u .
here is what i did and how it worked . i brought hair dryer pointed it to my n900 make sure some heat reach the phone , but dont overdo it and melt ur phone , make sure u remove battery and cover , and when u feel that the phone became hot , place ur batteries and turn it on , thats how it worked for me ^^ |
Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
Big deal with screen protectors here is they are not made to be used for a lifetime. Like any other plastic materials they shrink in size with constant heat and when it does the film of a resistive screen phone becomes strained.

Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
haha wow that worked perfect! thanks man..
but we shall see how long it lasts for until it begins to act up again. |

and i figured out the reason why this happened. when i went to gym i put my n900 in my sweaty pocket , it must absorbed some of the sweat , and when i heated it with hair dryer the sweat must evaporated . this happened again when i put it in my bag with my sweaty clothes as well , so maybe u r doing something daily that causes this to happen |

Re: n900 touch screen problem!!!
A day ago i reflashed my N900 and i got some uninvited, extra, touch screen problems related shortcuts ( email, photos, phone etc) .
,they dont even give me an option to cross them on the desktop so they dont come again,so that means i can open them but cant cross(close) them. And because of these shortcuts i cant cross (close) an app immediately cuz these shortcuts show up on the cross, most of the time i have to pinch my fingertip a little hard to get a response from the screen. i really want to get rid of them.what do i do ?help please screen shot here : http://s1113.photobucket.com/albums/...825-070358.png and this :http://s1113.photobucket.com/albums/...825-084107.png and sometimes on top of every app.HOW DO I GET RID OF THIS ? please ! |
