I wonder if this update will finally fix the wi-fi battery drain bug. Let's hope, I love this phone.

Edit: I'm updating now as we speak. Once again delete IOquake or OpenArena before installing if you want to do it OTA. BTW my locale is Germany.

Does anybody know anyone involved in marketing or PR at Nokia? Why are changelogs and fw updates such a surprise? Why not inform us of what we are getting everytime. This blows my mind.

well i have looked around the new update and can't find any changes to maps, MMS support, USSD support, portrait browswing or portrait onscren keyboard....

anyone else have any ideas? maybe this is just a bug fixer?

all settings/repos from app manager killed, browser seems to scroll a bit smoother (might just be due to reboot)

Just installed it and i dont see anything either. But I did have an issue with media player widget that didnt used to play after a restart, unless i removed the widget and brought it back. This time it worked without me having to do that. This could be a fix

My phone indicates I have to use the pc-based Nokia software updater to install the M5 update. Anyone been able to do this solely within App Manager, or did you also have to use the PC-based updater?

Just finished the update. Still can't play videos with chapter markers in the default media player.

It worked originally, then broken in PR1.1. Still broken.


Play button on the Media Player widget still doesn't work.


Perhaps this was a pre-update update and the fixes and other goodies are going to come in a bigger update soon ???

You have conflicting package installed. Think of anything you've installed from the devel repo ,and try to delete it. For me (as I have quite a few things from devel) I only needed to uninstall openarena and ioquake. YMMV.

I remember a post on twitter recently saying there would be a minor firmware update within a week and a major FW update within a month. Guess that rumor came true.
It's looking like this update is clearing the way for the next major update.

Updated (locale Italy), no visible changes. As someone hinted before, this is a minor update before the major (1.2) update.

I would be glad with only the battery level getting better. Let's until tonight.

This is the small update.
The big one (1.2 wih integrated Qt) will come end of Februar.

No. There's a special repository for software updates called: Nokia System Software Update

and you dont trust numerous reports that the firmware can be found at tablets-dev?

there is no way to speed things up, it appears when it appears. just refresh your app manager with moderate intervals and you'll get it as soon as possible.

I too am in San Diego, Cailifornia. I hit update and there it was.

Remember people, disable all repos but the top 3. Yes, that includes maemo.org (Extras) and let it update. Everyone have fun now and post back soon, ya hear?!

I live here in the US. i had problems with my n900 firmware so i downloaded the N900 updater from the europe Nokia site. because Nokia USA doesnt have one.

then when i got home tonight i saw there were updates available. i was perplexed that a new firmware was there. never heard of the update being released.

So what does this update entail??? the scrolling seems to be much more smooth. and the ui text seem more sharp. the font sizes in certain menus are smaller than they were before.

But my point is to ask whats new?? any body care to explain???
